I had them during stressful times, possibly comfort eating will raise insulin resistance & it's a vicious circle. However, things got better with keto & watching Dr Berg's advices everyday 😊
2.13.22 I follow Dr Berg too -an intermittent faster, OMAD -1meal a day person too (or 2meals if not yet accustomed) 6/2019 we started 2yrs on 2meals/day, overnighter 8pm-noon fast Now the puffiness dryness around eyes yo-yo syndrome & 16 Lbs 7 kg are gone since 12/2019
This is so well timed! I was at the doctor just this week about my swollen eyelids (and over the eyelids). She's doing bloods and running a urine sample. I would find Keto a bit difficult as I have diverticulosis but I'll definitely try the intermittent fasting. I have to be so careful with what I eat as if my stomach gets upset, that starts up the bowel problem and then it's just hell. Thank you for such clear advice.
He mentioned this subject in another video. I think he said that it's OK to take some potassium supplements, but the problem is, the tablets don't contain enough potassium for what you need, and you would have to swallow about 40 tablets just to get your daily amount. For this reason it's better to focus on getting it in your diet. (You can search his videos to be sure.)
Thank you, Dr. Berg..your videos are the best. You hit on all the topics that concern me and yes you look so much better on keto! And melatonin rocks! I am learning so much with you and slowly integrating the information into action.
Thank you Dr. Berg. I learn a lot ni your Videos all topics for the health benifits are effetives and the foods what we it and not to eat. Thank you somuch i learn also How to make a Pizza from the Colle flower, hummus, etc. if i saw your Videos before maybe my husband is not suffering in a stroke. Because your Videos contains a lot of knowledge for the healthy foods that we most do and eat every day. Thank you very much i am still wacthing ang sharing your Videos. 😘❤
He answered this in some videos on eye health or eye in general. And on liver health. A little internet search will give you videos answering your questions.

i loved keto/low carb but when quit it in 2019 I gained all the weight back so fast... i don't think i will go back to that I'm just doing my own thing now just leaving out Breads and sugar 90% of the time
Hi, is eating fruits like bananas, apples and oranges between the meals considered snacking or is it just heavy stuff like meat or snacks like chips, thanks
The fact that there's no paywall or weird scheme to get the info, he just lays it out for us, instantly got a like and subscribe from me. Thanks for sharing the info Dr. Berg!
I need lots of sleep, water and fats (like in avocados and salmon). When I was carb addicted 5 years ago I had black hollow under eyes and saggy jowls. But since started keto and IF, it's like a face lift!!! ❤️😃☺️ But it takes time and consistency for the results!
I read years ago that it's sometimes genetic because I had it a few years ago and wanted to get rid of it. I've only just realised that I don't have them anymore since I started a low carb diet.
Listen to your body. I do intermittent fasting and my body does better with carbs in it. I broke out in a HORRIBLE rash when I was not including them . I love bananas and potatoes and help with muscle cramps. Everyone needs to know their body and what works for them. In moderation ❤️
My face has completely transformed and I lost 25 lbs since July. I've been doing keto on and off and honestly my eyes look much better now. I always looked bloated and like I wasn't getting enough sleep. Great advice. Thank you Dr Berg!
@@kellyrosegreene1698 Ok. It took me months to see great improvements. On keto and intermittent fasting. Potassium citrate powder supplements helps speed things up.
Well, all good objectives to see improvement but may be hard for novice dieters...the commitment is a lifestyle change indefinitely and, one must acclimate to that quest or fail to succeed!
I had the puffy eyes and only one month on keto & fasting it's gone! Following Dr Berg's advice and healing each day. Thank you I forever will be grateful for all your amazing advice🙏
@@younique1265 "Where did you buy it?" There's no IT. Keto is not an object you get at the pharmacy, it's a method of fasting. Low carb diet. You buy it by just doing it.
After getting on Keto, I started using less concealer under my eyes and after months being on Keto I don't wear any under my eyes, just the corner of my eyes to give it a little lift. I also don't have such a big night time skincare routine like I use to because my skin is better being on Keto. It's truly game changing.
After doing keto for several months I have lost some weight but my skin is as bad or even worse than before, more dark spots, pores, acne, etc I had the hopes that keto will improve those issues. After 5 months on keto my skin is at its worse. I’ll reintroduce green juices because that was really helping my skin before keto.
@Get on the cross and don’t look back “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces” (Matthew 7:6) So gtfo bruh
Lowering my protein intake, got rid of my bulging bags under my eyes . I really thought they would never go away unless surgery. Thank you Dr . Berg ! Also my upper puffy eyes also went away when I reduced my carbs . 🙏
Fasting and low carb has helped me not only lose weight but has also helped feel so much more in control of my eating and therefore, my emotional health. ♥️
I have struggled with dark circles and puffiness for as long as I can remember. I have cut out carbs and suger for 2 weeks now and intend on doing this as part of my lifestyle because I feel much better. Thank you Dr Berg for your advice. I am at a place where by I am fully understanding by body and that I am responsible for keeping it healthy.
Very educational and simple to understand, thank you Dr.Berg. 👍 It just amazes me how hyper-insulinemia is the underlying issue of many health problems yet insulin is not checked in an avarage blood test.
My hair was thinning out too and then my hairdresser told me to try cod liver oil (omega 3's) and it helped significantly. Like a saw a good difference within a month. Also while doing strict keto.
I, thought chronic sinusitis was the cause of dark circles. Also is not easy to get the recommended daily allowances of potassium of 3400 to 4400 milligrams a day. Very tough thing to do.
Potassium citrate powder makes easier. Together with enough salt and the other minerals. But if one has no stress, a small body, is very healthy, ect, then maybe one doesn’t need more than 4000mg a day.
That's all very interesting, but since insulin resistance is caused by build-up of saturated fat in the resistant tissue, there seems to be a big hole in your theory. I assume you are aware that eating chicken breast (and other meats) causes the same insulin spike as pure table sugar? The only thing that carbs do is provide the actual glucose that insulin resistant tissues are resistant to (and by extension contribute to a possible calorie surplus that will make it harder to burn off your saturated fats).
I don't know about this. I used to be obese and lost 100lbs and went full keto and I still have the same dark circles and puffy eyes (infact it's gotten worse)
Here in Japan girls are getting fillers under their eyes to get puffy eyes.. it’s the most popular beauty trend they believe it makes women look youthful and prettier. I often get compliments on my puffy eyebags and feel confused because I’m desperately trying to get rid them :/
Cannabis users suffer from this issue greatly, as the drug effects quality of sleep. It impairs REM sleep.throw in “the munchies” at strange times…and hello puffy eyes!
Dark circles and bags under your eyes can be the result of not getting enough sleep; this makes your eyes itchy and then you rub them and then they get bruised and swell up.
For those who still face this issue: gently massage the outer circle of your eyes, where bones start. You will feel better in a week. Although that might not be enough to completely get rid of dark circles.
Thanks so much Dr. Berg... all your videos helps me a lot physicalle and mentally.. 5 weeks on low carb and I really feel great. Yes, dark circles in my eyes and puffiness is almost gone.. your video I now share to my friends .. again, my appreciation never ends.. Hugs and flowers from Australia.🤗💐🌸🌺🌷🌹🌻.
Number 1 is hard.... So many things have carbs. Bread, rice, pasta, cereal, potato, all of my typical meals has a lot of carbs. The rest i can do i think.
@@experimenthealthyketo83 The puffy eyes mentioned by Dr Berg here, is just excessive fluid under your eyes, you can get rid of them simply by massage your eyes correctly. The puffy eyes I mentioned, are the fat built up under your eyes over years of bad habits, you can only get rid of them by surgery(for all I know right now). Most of the people are really anxious about the one I mentioned.
@@Lecopas303 I see. I think I had them both, but mostly the first one you described. Keto and intermittent fasting helped me removing these. Massages didn’t work for me. Or anything else really. Except I would not try surgery.
I had dark lines that went diagonally from the corners of my eyes for years. Sometimes they would be darker or lighter. Cut our gluten which also cut down my carbs some and the dark lines went away. So did my daughters when she cut out gluten.
Dark circles run in my family. My mother and her siblings had them, I have had them since I was a baby, so does my daughter and now my granddaughter too.
Hello Dr Berg, I have been watching your videos since last year and I am a hypo-thyroid patient. Whenever I start keto+intermittent fasting I see good results and my rheumatoid arthritis number decreases which I am pleased about. However, the problem is I lose face fat/ face collagen much faster than my body weight. What can I do to maintain face collagen?
You may want to check Dr Berg’s videos on collagen, vitamin c complex vs ascorbic acid, bone broth, ect. Also you may want to look into facial gym. But I suggest you go very slow with this because too much gym on the face muscles can be more painful than on the rest of the body.
@@superfatboi It’s gymnastic for the muscles of the face. A little internet search will give you videos of these. Be very slow with facial exercises though. If done too much time, one may get serious headaches (due to muscles on the top of one’s scalp extending…)
@@experimenthealthyketo83 what about cholesterol build up under eye. I have dark circles but no puffy eyes. No issues with kidney or insulin recently checked. High cholesterol tho. Trying to get off meds. Any suggestions?
I'm 58, I eat a packet of biscuits a day, my diet is terrible and has been for decades - I consume more carbs than I care to think about, I drink, I used to smoke, I rarely drink water - like once a week maybe and instead drink Tea and Coffee mainly. I don't have bags under my eyes. I think it's complex and we are all different. So whilst you might have bags under your eyes I think your lifestyle choices will benefit you in other ways...
@@MisterDaveB Hehe, my husband was just like you and smoked at least a pack of Marlboro a day. Add to that his proclivity to stress over his stock choices he was a medical miracle, died a few months ago at eighty-eight, all his head with him along with his cynical sense of humor. RIP. Stay safe my friend.
Doctor, the real problem is not carbs in general, it is refined carbs as bread, sweets, fried food as potato chips, etc. Fruit is really healthy if eaten alone in the morning for example (as animals do, they only eat one type of food at a time), it has a lot of nutrients, water and some fiber that is good for macrobiota and poop. Also small quantities of honey are good. What is a poison for the body is any added sugar, grains and nuts (they are seeds so they are full of antinutrients). The same for processed food, it is not natural, the body does not recognize it properly. I think keto diets are not good all the time, but can be used as a temporary tool.
But isn't there a difference between puffy eyes and eye bags ? I had eye bags removed which were due to a build up of fat in the tissue, not insulin resistance
Hi Dr Burg, I have been watching your videos for a few months, I have been dx with Carcinoid Syndrome. To make a long story short I went on Sandostatin for 1.5 years until it made me type 2 diabetic. Then they started me on Metformin. I’m also an ER nurse and right around the this time I began to research, once the drill critical thinking in school it is hard to think differently and so stopped Sandostatin. My last pet scan was clear from tumors and I decided it was time to stop my diabetes, I watched your video on how to fix insulin resistance followed you advice on keto diet and limited carb intake. All it took was 3 months and diabetes is now gone!!!! Thanks for all you do, you are a true lifeline and a blessing to me and my family God bless you!
it's called oxidation, stop eating fried foods, stop eating cooking oils and all oils, oils are a super Oxidants and when you heat them it accelerates the oxidation process, this includes any oil you put on your salads, don't char your food when cooking it, don't burn it, the burned part of your food like grill marks it means there's a toxic chemical that had been formed and it's a carcinogen. Animal fat is the ideal way to cook, use butter or lard. Foods you should never eat, Fried foods, Sodas, carbonated drinks (includes carbonated water), oils, burned meat or burned food overall, baked potatoes (boil them), deli meats, juices that have any kind of sugar in them. That's a start 👌
I was on a special diet to get rid of my Lyme disease (no sugar, no carbs , no yeast ) just organic chicken, salmon , eggs, vegetables and fruit. It healed me and I got so much energy. Then I started to think I’ll have a treat cause I’m feeling so much better. Now it’s been 2 months eating unhealthy. I’ve been having problems with my health again and my eyes are dark and puffy. So this video makes sense to me. I’m only 25 years young so I shouldn’t be dealing with all this. I should just stick to my diet !!! I love this channel
Yeah, the Keto diet is kind of nonsensical.. It's very unlikely to bring the miracles people say it does. Rings under the eyes are just a thing that happens. If you're malnourished it's gonna be worse, but cutting out carbs isn't going to make you _less_ malnourished, rather the contrary. plenty of water and vegetables in your diet is pretty much as good as it gets for skin. Less salt helps too. That's pretty hard with Keto, cause without salt, all the keto food tastes like garbage.
1. Stop eating carbs 2. Stop snacking 3. Start intermittent fasting 4. Take potassium (supplements or food) - I suggest pork!! Best bioavailable source with no antinutrients.
Doc you are so right, for all your viewers I had to go on a low to no carb diet because I suffer from Candida overgrowth. I have noticed my bags has decreased and so have the dark circles. Wow. Keep doing this great work helping people. We appreciate you.
I’ve had raccoon eyes (as my mom called them) for as long as I can remember. Father has them. Doesn’t matter how well I eat or quality of sleep I get, or any other improved lifestyle changes.
Unfortunately, having lymph nodes in your neck removed also can cause it. In that case follow all the above recommendations, and lightly massage the face in a lymph moving process sequence, and using a very good dual length infra red and red light (660 and 880) and with some warm compresses or hot shower on the face will get the lymph moving properly - at least it does for me (and ultimately no puffiness at all)
Great suggestion! I have started to use RLT and love it. Adding the massage to the lymph nodes is a great idea and easy to do while having a RLT session.
Honestly, after I did water fasting for 82 hours straight "according to Dr. Berg 72 hrs water fasting video" plenty of things has changed. One of them is weight loss and the second thing, my face and body have changed especially while doing push ups and cold showers that I started a month before 82 hrs water fasting" twice a day . Lost the weight around 8Lb, had autophagy benefits, looked younger and my eye bags are gone with tight face skin especially with push ups that put strength on my face, chest, and neck. Try water fasting for 72 hrs, after that fast two days weekly for 16 to 20 hrs so"4-6hours for meals" you can keep the benefits Cold shower is the best that ever happened to me also, cured me somehow from Anosmia because of allergies without using steroid sinusitis pills.
OMG I have to say this is the most informative videos for me. I've had dark under eye circles for at least 10yrs. I figured it's genetic COZ my mother has them too. So, I later developed the dark patches under my armpits about 6 months ago. I immediately knew those were from insulin resistance but I never made the same connection with my under eyes. I've been using all kinds of eye creams, they never work. So I started intermittent fasting 3 months ago and lost 20 ponds. Surprisingly, the under eye dark circles improved for the first time in my life. I started suspecting maybe insulin was the culprit and you just confirmed it. OMG

I am a no carb diet for the past two years. My eyes are puffy and dark circles. Diet is clean , and my blood and urine is clean too . Any other things you can think of ?
Wow this is amazing. I've had dark circles my whole life even as a child. I was told it's genetic because most of my dad's side of the family have dark circles. Most of his side of the family are also overweight. Very interesting. I've tried researching online what causes it and it always comes back with lack of sleep, genetics .. basically there's not much you can do about it. I'll give keto a try.
1.8.22 intermittent fasting is 1st & foremost. Since 2019 we Eat less & healthy within a window 11a-7pm in our case We dropped 1Lb/wk Since 2019, low carbs/sugars, 🍋💦🥤are for Life. Look, feel 15Yrs younger within 6mos The lbs & puffy eyes r gone Healthy glow is “On”
Doctor Eric, I think that wearing glasses made my eyes getting 'pulled in' the eye sockets. Even my siblings said so in the beginning. So, even when I use contact lenses now, the dark circles look even worse.
Rubbing your face, especially the area around your eyes, with ICE Cubes in the morning helped reduce under-eye bags and dark circles might be helpful. It worked for me. I got under-eye loads; I got tested for my kidneys as they were working well, then I started using ICE on the face three times a week, and within 2 months, My face was clear of all puffiness and blackness. Before rubbing the ice, I used some expensive serums, and they only worked for a short time. This easy routine helped me a lot. Try this; it might help you get rid of your issues, too. Thank you for reading.
I think a lot of what is being overlooked here is the quality of the carbs we have in the US and western worlds in general. Yes carbs can be bad, but making it worse in the west is the presence of all the chemicals they use in the growing process. More specifically the most common grains we have in the US (wheat, oats, sugarcane [not a grain I know, but it receives the same treatment]) are all sprayed with roundup right before harvest to kill the crops and force larger productions of the crop (plants go to seed right before dying). Keto isn't really necessary, and grains are fine to have, but it needs to be untreated organic grains. Also, while grains are fine to have, they shouldn't be had in the amount the US food pyramid suggests. The food pyramid was sponsored and built by big agriculture to push their grain harvests. Roughly 20% of your diet should be in the complex carbs, but only if you can get them organic.
Well I have been on keto and IF si ce September 2020. Lots of great changes. Fat loss, smoother skin, increased energy. But dark under eyes still there. Feel very self conscious of them. Though l look younger l still feel it diminishes the gains made.
I can see a temporary reduction by rubbing fermented garlic honey on the area around my eyes. I think the honey must draw moisture or help increase blood flow. It seems to be good for fine wrinkles, too.
@@nealsausen4651 I only learned about it a few months ago. You make it yourself. It's really easy. Take a bunch of garlic cloves and remove the hard outer shell from each clove. You can crush them a bit to peel them but otherwise leave them mostly intact (don't cut them up) then put them into a glass jar and cover them with *raw* honey. None of the clear gold honey in the plastic bear (that's flavored corn syrup mostly anyway), but real raw honey that hasn't been pasteurized or filtered. Then leave it in a dark cabinet for a week or two. The honey will become darker and thinner and you'll probably see a little bit of bubbling action going on after a few days.

Summary Of How To Get Rid Of Puffy Eyes: 1. Stop Eating Carbs 2. Stop Snacking 3. Intermittent Fasting 4. Consume A lot of Potassium (not from bananas) Thank You Dr. Berg You are Godsent to humans
I didn't watch the video but here's what he says "Eating carbs gave you puffy eyes and dark circles" "You should try keto" . You are welcome I've saved you time.
What should i eat as an athlete because carbs are in all my essentials meals. Dose that mean I shouldn’t eat rice bread potatoes or fruits? What should I eat then. PLEASE Help me I don’t know what to do my eyes always look terrible
"1. Stop eating carbs" You then say lower your carbs. Should be written better. But 100-150 or so carbs a day is great. It helps with energy, like calories. Plant-based diet increases metabolism by 15%, according to studies. Plant-based diet increases clarity and concentration, according to studies. In about 7 days you really notice an extremely positive shift in your body after going plant-based. (; So, carbs this and that...it's not really a solution. Keto is fine I guess short-term but you just need to limit calories to lose weight. You can consume a small amount of carbs but if you don't have a deficiency in calories, you'll not lose weight. (;
Great tips! My father has eye puffiness and he's prediabetic due to alcohol unfortunately- hyperinsulinemia. Would love to hear about managing and reversing that, but it won't do any good unless he stops drinking
I've had dark circles since I was born. Everyone in my family has them, it's hereditary. If they go away from doing Keto, it will be a miracle. Stay tuned!
how is it going?? Because I got the same hereditary issue. For once in my life I would like them out even if it is just temporary for the sake of knowing how my face looks like without them
