How to Get Rid of Septum Stink 

A round of applause from me. I've been so self-conscious over the last few weeks that my boyfriend can smell my septum when we kiss (I asked him and he said he can't, so reassurance there!). I personally don't mind the smell all that much having had stretched ears for over half my life. But dude, I tried it. Got the olive oil from the kitchen, wiped down my jewelry real good (cleaned the hole with saline, too) and I'm sold. You can't even smell the oil like I thought might happen. 10/10!

Mine only gets smelly after I wake up.....and only when I turn it. It is like the turning of it activates the smell LOL

Literally life changing. I've had my septum piercing for 3 years now, the stank started a year after it healed and would not go away no matter what I did. But now it's gone, the stank that's been haunting me for years is finally gone. THANK YOU!!

I am a person who’s incredibly sensitive to smells and get headaches very easily, like I always try to only use unscented skin and body care items because I cannot handle smells on myself. You just saved me from taking off my septum forever, thank you so much Scott!!

I generally keep my septum pretty clean and don’t have issues with smell but sometimes if it’s a very cold day and my nose is running a lot it’s hard to get rid of. thanks for the great tip

I got my septum done a little over a year ago and everyone told me about the smell but luckily I never experienced it.

Mine has been pierced for nearly a decade and is stretched to a 6g. Septum stink is definitely a thing. 🤣 I just manage it by using a non scented antibacterial soap in the shower and then I use alcohol whipes on my septum ring after I get out of the shower. It works. I never heard of natural oils being used before. I must try it!

My wife has her septum stretched to a six gauge and never had problems with the septum smell,but she's always cleaning it soo!! I guess it makes a difference.Great content keep it up !

I’m so happy I’m not the only one that thought it was only happening to me. I will try the oil. I was almost ready to just take it out. I cleaned it everyday and thought I was doing something wrong. Glad I found this video!!!

I had this for months after getting my septum pierced and really thought I was gonna have it forever, it made me so self conscious. Only things that worked was washing the area 2 times a day with homemade saline solution and warm soap and water. I’ve never even thought of using oil 👀

Thanks for this one! I got mine done in November and was starting to get worried that something was wrong bc of the smell. No other signs that it's healing wrong and I've kept it as clean as possible, but the smell was making me nervous. Will definitely try this!

I've had mine for about 3 months and I just recently started to notice this, it's worse if you mess with it, moving it around stirs it up more.

THANK YOU so much for this. The smell was really getting to me and copious saline rinses did nothing, and it's a newish piercing so I can't take it out. A q-tip and some cooking oil made a world of difference!

Instead of cleaning my piercings individually I've recently taken to running a bath and completely submerging my head underwater for a minute and shaking my head while underwater to dislodge any dried sebum that's accumulated on my piercings

Honestly randomly had this happen to me after years of having my septum pierced, went away after a week of cleaning it really well and babying it.

This is brilliant. I've had my septum for over 6 years but I recently got new jewelry (lost my $420 septum rip to my soul) and it's cheaper than what my skin is used to so this weird feet smell came out of NOWHERE and this video has been a godsend. Thank you my dude 💚🙏 You're miraculous

I have had mine for 4 years now and I just shove soap in my nose and rinse out with the turbo setting on my shower head. But if I don't do it it starts to smell.

Thank you so much for this. I watched your videos about septum’s BEFORE I got it so I knew what I was doing. Lol. I developed a slight smell in my nose roughly a month after I got it. It wasn’t bad and wasn’t always there. I tried washing it with my nose ring in. NO GOOD. I had to take it out, use the olive oil, clean my ring with antibacterial soap and used the sea water spray to sterilize it. The smell is GONE 😩 omg I’m so excited.

I just tried this on all of my nose piercings, I used olive oil, and it really works! Thanks Scott! I wonder what the science is behind that lol

Had my septum done for close to a year and luckily don't have this issue! That or I can't smell it because I had COVID in 2020. 😅

This also works to get the smell of gas off your hands,slather up with oil,then dish soap and hot and hot water.

Bodies are weird. I've never ever had a septum stink since the piercing. I just assume my facial cleanser handles it.

I love using SuperFloss to really get in there with my piercing cleaner soap! I've had mine for about 15 years now and my fav combo is TattooGoo Antimicrobial Soap and their Tattoo Balm. The balm has a nice smell to it and I feel like it helps to prevent the smell coming back for a while.

The stories about the smell kept me from getting this done (I have no other piercings, apart from one earlobe which I don't use anymore). I am not even that offended by smells, but just the idea of something smelling from my nose horrifies me (also what if my wife notices when I kiss her??). But people seem to agree that this works perfectly, so I might get it (I will never ever stretch it as thats not my style at all, I will just keep a small barbell hoop and if I get too disheartened by the smell I will just take it out and it will vanish without a trace)

Had mine for twenty years now,never had any smell except after I stretched it to a two gauge. It has stopped mostly, but living in Colorado where it gets cold causes my nose to run and gets a little funky during those times

i got my septum pierced just over two months ago and have the stink. i think it's mostly healed, but i wanted to ask if it would be okay for me to do this while still in the healing process? probably not, but. still gotta ask at least.

i’ve had my septum for 2 years and never had an issue until recently:,( i washed it with soap and water but alas, it was still stanky.

I used to get that and I would clean my jewelry to try to get rid of it. Nothing seemed to work. Then after a few years I guess it went away. Haven't smelled it since. Thanks for the tip.

I didn't notice it until now when I upsized to 8g. I just use a tiny drop of lavender oil.

I’ve never noticed any septum smell but I also irrigate my nose with a saline spray twice a day 😅

Mine only smelled when I changed it from the horseshoe to a clicker. It was like death. I’ve since changed to a hinged ring (the one in my photo) and it never smells now. But yeah, I definitely wasn’t ready for how awful it smelt 😂

When I had my septum done there was no smell, after a month there was a slight smell but since then either I’ve gotten used to the smell or it just doesn’t smell at all and tbh I rarely clean it which ik is bad but I haven’t had any problems with it. But I’m glad that the smell I did have was normal.

Am I the only one who only gets the stink on lobe piercings and none other? Usually water and soap do the trick but after 5 days in hospital it's quite a strong smell

it's so weird, i watched this video when it came out and didnt ever have the septum smell. i just stretched it from 16g to 14g for larger jewelry and now i can smell it!! will definitely try the fixes once its not as fresh of a stretchc. i dont really mind the smell, but its weird that i can smell it now!!

Surprisingly after gauging to 4g I have way less septum stink, I’m guessing because it’s a bigger hole and easier to clean

Not sure about anyone else, but I actually like the smell. Not too potent, as I clean it at least once a day when going though all my healing holes.

I have this “problem” but it isn’t bad it’s when I’m really itching hard. I’ve had mine for I think 6 months now and it’s never been bad but at least now I know how to get rid of it 😄
