My website is www.yorkcardiology.co.uk.Here Dr Sanjay Gupta, consultant cardiologist, talks about how to get rid of your pvcs and ectopic beats by improving your sleep habits. lack of sleep increases cortisol levels which intern can cause depletion of magnesium levels which in turn can cause irritation of the heart and lead to palpitations. Also sleep apnea can cause increased cortisol and cause palpitations esp PACs

Hi Dr Sanjay Gupta, truly amazing, everything you talk about or explain I can relate to. Honestly it is people and medical professionals like yourself who really give me reassurance. Have suffered with extra beats pvc's for about 8 years went away for a long period of time but late last year came back worse than ever. I do not get much reassurance from my gp or cardiologist. I find these extra heartbeats very interesting and have tried to learn as much as I can about them for years now as a patient. I find this video on sleep very interesting relating to cortisol as when I wake first thing and throughout the morning my heart rate is steady and feels normal(never notice any pvc's) and as I go through the day the more stressed or anxious I become i can notice more and more. Sometimes hundreds, I do suffer tremendously with anxiety and anxiety of the heart. I have subscribed to your Chanel and will continue to tune in. Thank you so much for the amazing work and research you do and thank you even more for sharing!! Ade

York Cardiology: I wake up very early seemingly FROM the rushing heartbeats, not from fear. I have fear day and night, living in illness without getting help or doctor, having studied enough medicine to know I'm in deadly stress and fear, confirmed by doctors who then didn't get me help (practical and therapy), so insecurity increases by my SOS calls going unanswered and me feeling more invisible and insignificant. I am now too exhausted from severe sleep deprivation, Aspergers and extra aggressive Anchylosing spondylitis, isolated from fatigue + social sensitivity etc. Palps didn't show on test, Dr said it was Nervous heart. But my mother, who is similar with emotional difficulties, has now got heart failure, Which I'm afraid of, since my life has been more stressful and unhappy than hers, so that I believe I'm at risk soon too. I practice positive thinking-feeling,but can't make it alone without therapy/TFT. They mostly say I must be stabler/better to have energy for therapy, but as the years went by with mostly failed attempts, I couldn't but get worse. 25 years of insomnia and being an extra sensitive. I know I could get well if I got some right support and social occupation and day structure, but am so depressed at squandering my best life years in a never- ending desert. What can I do? What must I do? i want and need to change, but am suppressed by long-term abuse. Waant to sleep, but unable to structure my time alone, don't function. I can force myself to walk, but know i must get my thoughts and feelings more balanced. My aggressions make me so sick at the heart. Can I know when at risk of heart attack from stress and insomnia, possibly from jaw bone inflammation in the bloodstream to the heart? Is sudden adult death due to stress and sitting too much?

I am 23 with heart palpitations and severe anxiety. I’ve taken a stress test, holter monitor and soon to have a sleep test. I do catch myself during the day stop breathing. I’m going to try to do my best to better my life style so I’ll never get any serious heart problems. The palpitations have put me in a depressive state and I’m constant stress and anxiety due to fear of death. I thank this doctor so much for giving me light through a dark tunnel.

You are now my go-to Cardiologist! Thank you for talking about excess weight. It seems with the advent of more of us being overweight/obese, we aren't allowed to say anything negative about it, but I don't think it is ok to be overweight. I was fit and thin most of my life but when I became stressed and more sedentary and overweight I never felt worse, and my health has never been so poor. People need to really listen to their Dr when they talk to them about their weight, not just have hurt feelings. Great job speaking up about it❤️

I have seen all three videos and I want to thank you so much for making them. I suffer from pvcs, I'm 21 years old and I have been suffering from them for around six months after a stressful year at college. I have become quite obsessed with getting rid of them because they scare me a lot even though I have been tested and my heart is normal and healthy. I had only 50 pvcs in a day when I had the holter done but I know some days it is much worse. I have been trying to exercise a lot more and I will try with magnesium and the diet that you recommended. I eat healthy and I have already eliminated caffeine and tea, now its time for sodas. It gets better some weeks and when it returns I get so anxious again that perhaps its myself thats causing it. Thank you so much for taking time to reassure people like me.

Hi Dr. Gupta! Just wanted to drop a huge thanks for awesome tips related to managing tachycardia and SVT related symptoms. I have received different advice from different cardiologists (EPs) related to my Atrial tachycardia symptoms. I have always had these short episodes during my sleep and some of them have been 200+ bpm. Short amount of work-out tends to drive up my heart rate quite a bit as well, if I don't rest in between Adapting a healthy lifestyle and following your advice seems to have promising results. Thanks again! Have a good one! Cheers!

Hello Dr Gupta, a fine series of 5 videos, most helpful re palpitations, Thank you. I'm 69 , mostly plant based diet..and had increasing regularity of palpitations. Very helpful around magnesium, alcohol..and now sleep --- slightly trickier for older males ( prostate). Sleep apnea, I found Breath by James Nestor a very useful book which has ways of encouraging you to breath through your nose and not through your mouth ( very unhealthy) helping with better sleep. Intoroduction of a magnesium suppplement, more water, and moving to small beers/less wine in social situations has made a significant difference to my life. Thank you your whole perspective and tone is reassuring best, john w

Hi Dr G. Firstly, thank you so much for taking your time to explain and offer reassurance for all of us who are experiencing these not nice thumps. For me, this is all new, I had a recent diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, and was told this was a direct link to ectopic heart beats, but also for me I am going into the early stages of the change. I have a very good diet due to a lot of food allergies, but, just now the ectopic heart beats are rampant. I have worn a monitor for 24 hrs - results not yet back, and had an ECG Friday as I was growing concerned, but other than the ectopic heart beats nothing abnormal showed up. I don't get a quality of sleep, more so recently and having listened to your talk on sleep I feel this could be a big contributor.....

After several tests I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I'm 69. The CPAP has helped. I've been using it for 2 months.

I had palpitations after I eat or laying down and I found out I was eating to fast and taking in to much air with I swallowed food. I got rid of palpitations by taking digestive enzymes with each meal. I use pure encapsulations which is an vegan formula with hci in it. I suffered for about a year and now completely heart palpitation free. I did stop all sodas and cut back sugar.

Just wondering, how long does it take to restore magnesium levels? Secondly, regarding sleep apnea, would disturbed sleep from high background noise/early morning light (or anything that could cause you to wake) have the same impact as sleep apnea with a medical cause? I'm not remotely overweight but do feel I have poor quality of sleep, and on another note, feel I sometimes wake with a blocked nose, which I'm not quite sure of the cause yet (perhaps undiagnosed seasonal allergies). Or just wondering if my anxiety has mucked up my natural breathing rhythm
