Shi Xie's family mechanics are fun to play around with, but in the theoretical world that he becomes emperor, chances are a more devastating version of the Eight Princes would occur lol

Fun fact if Shie Xin is still in the faction when Sun Quan becomes faction leader theres a chance that the event were Xin becomes hostage will trigger. However even if you refuse to give him in the event will keep triggering from to time until you get rid of him or Sun Quan gets destroyed which can be quite annoying

Random update - I started a Shi Xie campaign after watching this video. I had to take a different approach and take out the east/north neighbors first to give me some more time to prepare, because King Mulu declared war on the vassal I made out of the faction you attacked first in this video. But keeping a bit more distance from him allowed me to get fire arrows and such in time to fight him later. I now have about half of the south under my control, and Sun Ren is my heir because I managed to get her through diplomacy and none of my children have any better traits for that position lol. So thanks for making this video - I think it would've been a long time before I tried out Shi Xie on my own without this, and I've found that he's a lot of fun! Just hope he gets unique units someday.

That "I blame Sun Quan" from a few Gongsun Zan episodes ago is really starting to resonate more after that history lesson

One thing I notice, that encourages you to give your administrators full retinues and leave them in their cities, is that they count towards diplomacy military might. Meaning that if you have a full retinue on the field it will give the same amount of diplomacy points as an administrator garrisoned in his settlement

This faction is amazing. I actually just did a test run as him today and when I realized the chests for income stack and don't need to be on a administrator I went nuts with them. And the Diplo bonuses are great too, I didn't make it to king in my test so I never got to see how absurd it could get with all the extra prime minister spots but it seems really good.

If we ever get a Shi Xie playthrough I'd recommend playing with "Guv's Additional Units" mod, it gives Shi Xie some pretty nice units that CA neglected to give his faction.

Still making my way through the video. It’s important to note that the map changes in 1.71 will block trade with Dong Zhou and that itself limits the factions you will encounter for potential marriages and diplomacy

For the Give a Lord Chest mission (I call them Happy Meals). It is programmed to be assigned to your unhappy non family Strategist. Since he is gone the mission is randomly assigned to someone else. A note if you wait to release the Strategist until completing the Happy Meal mission, releasing generals or death will unbind the chest with left over turns remaining. So complete the quest, release the strat, and give the Happy Meal to the first unique general that you do not adopt

Don't know since when but Mulu always without fail attacks that vassal to the South West, no matter if you have food deals or others with him. It's a death sentance with a small army as he has a full stack with elephants after turn 6

The divorce bug is around since last patch i think, i used to divorce Dong Zhou's wife to steal characters (since she have a daughter turn 1 )and she also no longer a family member after divorce.

I always hire a couple strategists or champions with reward the filial and incorrupt on this faction and it resolves the satisfaction problems while you can also level up useful characters for fighting the nanman later on. Fire arrows wreck them and champions with ji infantry who can spear wall and earthen rampart makes elephants fold like paper and tigers jump around aimlessly til they're all dead.

Learning the game and history, easily the best channel for 3K.

Aside from the +10 satisfaction penalty on characters who are not part of the family, it can get fixed through adoptions. It looks like a relaxing faction to grow your economy, public order, food, and upgrade your settlement despite the work you need to fully fill in the splenders. However, the southern tribes just won't leave me alone to the point i need to get rid of them but once i cross the jungle, my army suffered a fatigue. Turns out your Shi Xie faction can't adapt to the jungle so i really have a hard time maintaining the morale of lowering rank troops. It took time to finally get at least mid to heavy units to recover from morale. It was challenging to take down all the tribes either through complete takeover or vassalize them.

Lady Shi is 22yo and is younger than most of Shi Xie's sons so I think the adoption makes more sense, because she couldn't be the actual mother of any of those sons :P I'm guessing the game decided she's not family after that divorce due to this fact.

Just started a Shi Xie lengendary campaign and 1.7.1 has broken a couple of things. First, the trade route changes mean you can’t reach dong zhuo and miss out on a lot of visibility. Second, factions vassalized in Jiuzhen seem to be considered nanman factions by the game, so no trade is possible. Also very annoying when your lackwit son loses his capitol and you can’t trade it back.

Sadly in 1.7.1 you lose the ability to trade with Dong Zhou turn 1 (I presume due to the new impassable area on the Yellow River?)

Just get a bunch of throw away generals and stack economic and industrialist chests on them for infinite money and guaranteed 1 turn builds in your northern commandery with the silk/trade port. You're welcome. You just beat the game before it started. A cheese so good LegendofTotalWar would buy the game just to experience it.

If you marry your daughter to a leader such as Liu Bei, do you get an upgrade for the family to become a leader? such a blade then you can take on the challenge to have all your family become regional leaders throughout China and you hold 1 province for just one challenge.

Do you know if Shi Xie can organize marriage with Nanman characters without bugging out? Several patches ago this was a bug and I haven't played him since. But he's definitely a well-designed faction otherwise.

sob, I always wondered why prime minister seemed so important but was only around for 1 rank. I had no idea after you rank up to emp that those positions directly under you were all prime ministers. I've been trading those things away or just throwing them on whoever... *cry* btw, thanks I'm new to total war, and it's a much different game then the old Rot3K's games. I had no idea of the title changes or the ability to divorce/adopt, played just about every faction and apparently been doing it all wrong every time :(

Hey ST, I tried your early game strategy for Shi Xie and one problem on the latest patch 1.7.1 is that upon granting family independence on an administrator, you can not trade with them. It says "treaty is not currently available as this faction does not have the necessary reform". Can anyone confirm this? I tried this on other factions and trading with them upon granting independence seems to work. So my best guess is that the "Granting Family Independence" option is not working as of 1.7.1, tell CA ST!

Do you think the faction should get a unique unit? Or that the chest mechanic is enough?

I assume with Lady Shi she was a remarriage of Xie's - she's only 21, so can't have two adult children who are older than her!

Question Master Trivia, what's the relationship between Guan Yu and Xu Huang?

I play Shi Xe few times and make my own strategy...wipe out all nanmans. Starting from Mulu and conquere tribe by tribe. All 3 neighborhoods who declare war never attack you, just sitting on their butts and waiting their doom, plus from some time you can make peace and trade with them. Shi Xe can be spice monopolist on entire China what a lot make your trade better, but when I become a King...Shi Xe dies at age 75..it's make pisses me off, I knew he shoul leave to age of 90 an I just leave this campaign. Right now I got problem in 1.7.1, because Shi Xe starting with some new invincible - happiness event(- 20 with legenary debuff) and Zhan Min leave at turn one...well done CA.

it's weird I just tried this the way you said but Qu Pan is classed as a nanman faction when I play - if I try to make a trade agreement it just says he's not got the required reform, is this a result of an update or is this something wrong with my game?

I have a question, I'm playing 190 Shi Xie tonight, with shaman follower, was able to capture Mulu when he came attack me and I killed him for his Southern Elephant mount 500 melee damange (armor and piercing), 20 melee attack rate, 50 speed, 4k mass. I am wearing it on Shi Xie lol. Then when his Lady Heir names A Qu Ju, came back to attack me, I attacked her and was able to get Mulu's Bell. And captured 2 of her lv1 Naman persons, they were willing to let me recruit them. I only recuited the Naman Initiate Commander lv1 because she has War Elephants and Naman Warriors (light axe infantry). Her name is Xian Bang age 35: +10 expertise, +10 resolve, +30 cunning, enables Guerrilla Deployment, Enables Night Battles), and she has a husband unknown. Strangely, my game froze up and disconnected. I reloaded game and done it again, is able to do this and continue to play without the Furrious Wild Expansion. I didn't pay for Furrious Wild, so it's strange now I can recruit their faction people lol. Is this normal? I wasn't able to recruit any Naman faction during a winning war 3 weeks ago when I played Shi Xie.

Lady Shi is a concubine. She hasn’t given Shi Xie any kids yet so she is not part of the family when you divorce her.

I took the event character after some rounds and for any reason he is leaving even though I got 70 points and all green - can anyone explain that?

ST you’re playing too many games With 1.6.0 I discovered an Easter egg. You also discovered this egg in your 1.7.0 Liu Bei start but it didn’t connect with you how important it was to Shi Xie... the turn 2 recruitment pool has two wives. Guess what happens when you adopt those wives? Sadly 1.7.1 got rid of one of them (the Commander) and from what I’ve seen the adoption doesn’t give 10 points as it should. Hopefully this gets fixed in its beta phase But in 1.7.0 you can have +20 splendor a turn very early in the game. The main problem, even in 1.7.1, is not letting Mulu kill off your step son because adopted grandchildren are not considered family members
