Building a Vortech SC 4.6 2V for my '96 GT right now, this is the third 2V I've seen running sub-10s and neither of the others were really that over the top either, I just always gotta say it's such a huge inspiration to me and I'm glad I'm not the only guy in the world that doesn't just throw a 5.0 in their car. The 4.6 is a badass engine that doesn't get anywhere near the credit it deserves and I love seeing people show off what they're really capable of.
I know people have said it but; before I found this channel I was sold that I would just coyote swap my new edge and then throw a supercharger and be done. But now I’m in love with my 4.6 all over again
I rarely press the like button, so something special about your straightforward no nonsense presentation. 8.89 from a small block you make it seem realistically reasonable to obtain the same results.
your video was like a check list for my current build! the only difference is I'm running a Bullitt intake, 11:1 compression, manual trans and full interior. good to know I can see great results from this combo!
Rob Snow you can get cobra internals off ebay brand new for 899$ and you can find the kellogg cranks for around 350 to 450 from what I've see. Run some cnc plasma cut rings king tri metal bearing and arp mains. There's a lot of stuff online forums to show you how to port 2v heads. They're not hard to do. Forged oil pump gear and a melling high flow 4v pump from mmr is the cheapest and best route. You can get all the goods fuel systems and all from mmr and mrs.
Great video keep up the good work going to be keeping an eye on your videos I'm doing something similar as you with the 4.6 I also have a shortened 8.8 rear end with the same gears as you LOL some people said I started backwards by starting with the rear end but the car was pretty bad seen that you had subscribed my channel so you know the condition of what this Mustang was in again keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing more of your videos on your build
Thanks for sharing man! I have a lot of similar parts and plan to build a teksid 4v motor when the stocker dies. I'd be lucky to make even close to what you do though because I will probably stick with my Vortech v3 blower
Really not all that much money if you ask me . Ford crank . Rods and pistons. From what it looks like mild head port on stock vavles and aftermarket intake .
Great stuff man. Im really leaning toward going to a holley efi setup. They seem to be the best and easiest option going standalone for the modular platform.
98snakehorse yeah I love the Holley especially because the harness was plug and play. Really like megasquirt to just wish they made a harness for the mod motors
Man I wished I lived close by.. I'm in Cali.. I have a 2002 mustang roush stage 2.. getting ready to put some money into it.. anf I wish I was paying you.. lol good stuff brother
Run a Full bolt on 4.6 2v with 100 shot Over 190k miles still runs like a champ everyday I kick it over! tuning is a big thing for mod motors. working on a build for this winter thanks for the info. Helped with my head questions Forsure!
Nice job brotha, thanks for posting this video and showing all the big mouths who say two valve mod Motors don't make power!! I got a 97 F150 with a two valve with a few bolt-ons and it's got almost 300,000 miles on it and still runs like a bear!! Built Ford Tough💪😤
My 02 Explorer 4.6 just rolled 215k tonight. So far I've only had to replace one injector, 3 coil packs and all new plugs. It's running awesome still! Other than those few things, it's all original. These 2v mod motors are built to last
Ben Dover not stock bottom not stock rods n piston not stock stud, Cylinder bores, only thing stock is heads, i think you can make anything bullet proof when you do 5+Grand in work just to the motor alone
Lmfao 4.6 and 5.4 blocks live stock as fuck in the 1000+ hp range all day long on Stock main caps.... Pretty bullet proof blocks. The internals are the only junk part. For 1350 you can get forged rods and pistons and you can find a kellogg cobra crank on ebay for decent price under 500$. 5k for machine shop work is not needed 😂
Love the car, this makes me excited for what my car can run... I should be makiing 1 or 200 more hp with close to the same setup, I just want it to run a 8!
I agree I took crap for building 4.6 2v on nitrous custom ground cams Victor Jr intake quick and runs on e85 swapped to quick fuel carb much much more and fast and 6 mod box from Msd
Run a stock 2v on my son's 04 GT with an ON3 kit, 5.5 lbs of boost, 350hp and 400 tq on the dyno....solid kit. When he gets out of college, I know he's going to do something like this.
rdy2run 427 from what I’ve read you can usually push a 4.6 to around 400whp on stock internals before you start breaking stuff. So it would come down to how much power you make from whatever amount of boost. I get the feeling 10lb is gonna be a little much for stock internals
Are you still using the On3 hot side piping at this point of the build and at what horsepower level do you think the piping needs upgrading. Thank you for your knowledge and sharing it.
Damn brother that car moves out!! I have an 03 GT and would love some info on where you had the motor work done. I live in the bootheel of Missouri and noticed your from Tennessee.
Hey man I have a question for you!! I just diagnosed my crown Victoria misfire! Cylinder 4 on this 2v 4.6 my cam follower fell off ! Why would this happen ? I was able to reinstall it with a flathead screwdriver,no problem. I then checked compression on this cylinder and while the other cylinders tested at190-200psi and held there well. This cylinder (4)only got to 90 psi. A wet test brought it up to 190psi. A friend says”yep, bad rings needs a rebuild”. I dont believe it. The car has 40k miles on it. Should I be lookin for something else ? I’m a bit of a novice with auto repairs. With the cylinder on the compression stroke(not top dead center) I shot air into the spark plug well and can feel it freely leaking out of the intake port(I have the intake removed-another issue). Am I missing something ? Should the head be removed? This is my daily driver and only vehicle and I need it running by the time this quarantine crap is over. I also had a coolant leaking internally in the intake manifold. It’s possible it was pulling coolant into this cylinder ,even tho cylinder8 was right next to the leaking culprit gasket, this cylinder tests fine
I agree that the 2V's dont get the credit they deserve. I have done a lot of work with 2V's over the years and they are big stout engines. The 4V cars are great but they break just like a 2V with stock internals unless its a terminator. For how big a 2V is, I feel like they should be making more power, especially when 4 cylinders are making good power. The smaller engine 4 cylinder guys boast a lot, but once you start throwing boost at a built 2V, its not such an advantage for them anymore. I own a built MMR 2V eaton Bullitt and three 4V cars, so I'm not just saying the 2V is great because I'm partial to them. My 2V with ported heads and cams dynoed the same as a 4V both N/A and with boost. Nice build !
Justin Johnson thank you. I agree the 2v 4.6 can make plenty of power with the right mods and it’s fun to see the look on people face when they realize it’s just a 2v.
Bro they are dogged.. I've had a 96 6 speed firebird it had more power, ... But I'll ALWAYS miss takin the 99 vert stang to about 6,000 and hitting second feeling her pop sideways and holding her on the road. Probably because it had way biget tires than the bird. But the bird would kill it in the turns
@@johnconway8975 Put suspension on both the stang will probably handle better. Mm put their suspension on a fox, to this day it's one of motor trends fastest slalom cars.
So you say it’s a stock cobra crankshaft, is it out of the same year car? No mods to it? Basically buy this crank brand new and install it into the stock GT sohc block? If so what rods do you buy? Ones for a cobra or for an sohc? Or are they the same? I’m contemplating building another motor for my 2003 GT and I’m thinking about going this route. Just wanted to pick your brain for a minute. Also with the cobra crank this would essentially be a stroker at that point so are there specific pistons that would be required for this setup? I would be using the trick flow heads. Thanks for your time! Awesome car!!!
Hey i have a rusted out 03 vic with bad valves. Was thinkin of just sending the heads out to be done. Would you suggest that or buyin new performance heads? Was thinkin of makin it a trophy truck style vic.
I'm going to go source a teksid block from the junk yard tomorrow. Is there anything extra I should grab beside the block? I heard there's a bolt on the timing cover that's required. I'm staying 2v. Also I have a 4r70w do I need anything off the mark 8 along those lines?
I've seen fully built 5.8 4v that had ran 8 1/4 mile. And having a 4.0 kB super charger in a 13 super Snake. Needless to say that is very impressive. I always said 2v ftw lol
Im looking to run an Eagle 5.0 stroker kit with some trickflow heads and a 2.6L Kenne Bell supercharger. My goal is to make 650hp at the crank. Ive seen a lot of these 2v make good power withh relatively simple mods
Just to ask, how come you're running a custom rear diff/axle? I heard you can just put gears in the rear end, weld the tubes and people run them on 1000hp+. So everyone says I'm not 100% I just got my 02 GT. Was planning on LS swapping my Ranger I had but plans changed, and that's how I heard about the famous Ford 8.8 rear end
I.would love to see ya run around are track alot of guy's I respect only are in 9s with big blocks big dollar motors just sometimes it gets too there head
Im here in tn wondering if i could bring my engine to you guys for a build if so a estimated price range im ordering a modular motor rotating assembly no boring needed
hey man sweet build glad to see a 2v build running right btw why not machine that lump in front of the intake valve off seems like removing it would help unshroud the valve and free up a hp or 2.. id bet its just some emissions crap anyway i mean really whens the last hemi or semi hemi or top fuel head you saw with a big knot in front the valve?
Megan Tripp it’s help with low lift flow #s but is beneficial to remove it with appropriate port work in the runner. I’m going to trickflow heads soon so not putting any more $ into the pi heads
I know you said DSS Racing doesn't do 2V heads anymore. What stage porting do you remember your heads being, Stage 1,2 or 3? Would it be best to just run TFS 185s or 195s?
Mustang -Ricky I am not a fan of the assembled short blocks from mmr. Look into a local machine shop and see if they can assemble a shortblock for you.
At the end of the day if you shove enough boost down a engines throat it’ll make whatever power as it can mechanically handle. Unfortunately my idea of doing a early modular swap in my f100 is starting to look more like a bad idea. These motor may be “decent” but again the aftermarket for them is slim much like the fe you’ll spend more money than you need to. So if you want a ford engine that makes a shit load of power n/a get yourself a coyote or a sbf that’s just my opinion. I wish odd ball engine like the fe and the early modulars would get more attention more towards the fe though that engine is a absolute masterpiece.
2 valve OHCs are my ish... All the low end perks of large valves, without the limitations of the pushrod's reciprocating mass... If more air is needed, FI that ish(like OP did) (Centrifugal chargers give RELIABLE top end power(in my experience))
I don't know what it is about these things, but even stock with a cat back exhaust they sound like they have about 100 extra cubic inches. With the 2v engines it all seems to come down to heads.
Damn I have almost the same set up except Im about to order the on3 70mm kit. What do u suggest that I change on that kit? What fuel injectors and fuel pump setup do you think I should go away and what size mass air flow? I also have a stock Romero block that's one of the things that are different from your setup how much power do you think I can run safely on that stock block?
Zachary Salazar watch my video on my review of the on3 turbo kit. 80lb per hour fuel injectors and switching to a return style fuel system would be best with twin 255lph pumps if you plan to run 93 octane. The iron block should hold well over what that 70mm turbo will make
Andrew Lavender I was planning on using E85. I'm having problems finding a cobra set up for the tank I was thinking about using a single 450 pump I wanna run about 20-25LBS of boost. Will the 80LBS injectors hold up?
Zachary Salazar for that much boost and e85 u are going to need 2 450lph pumps and better off going to1200cc injectors. Fuel injector clinic has some good injectors at better pricing than some other companies.
