The avocado tree makes a great house plant if you follow a few simple tips. If you'd prefer to buy a tree instead of growing your own go to: www.guacfarm.com
Your positive attitude is exactly what I needed today. Not just for growing avocados but for life in general. You should be a therapist ....because you are already a motivational speaker😊💗🌱
I have a seed that produced 3 stalks. I not sure what to do. I cut 2 of them down at the base. They are trying to grow again. I now have 2 stalks and the 2 at the base are trying to grow. What should I do??
Your words of wisdom are priceless as many others have noted. Bob Ross used to say there are only happy mistakes, your prove if it did not work the first time, just try again, not exactly a very pricey thing to do. In the end growing stuff is good for everyone.
Well, thank you for that pruning demonstration! I've got one growing almost a foot tall in a pot with just one big green leaf left on it. I didn't know how to help it. I haven't pruned it because I thought it needed the leaf to stay alive! Now I know it doesn't. I started 4 avocado seeds in water and now I've got 4 baby trees potted, each with their own personality. One of them is a total success without any help and the others are great teachers. And so are you, thank you!
Pam, thank you for the encouraging comment and I love that you're growing avocado trees. Please stay close to the channel and keep us posted on your progress!
Awesome advice, man. I would never have thought of cutting off the top I’ve been patiently growing. I will do that. I live in Scotland and have successfully grew avocado seedlings, now I know how to make them thrive as house plants.
NOW I find your channel!!! I left San Diego County after 25 years. I now live in NE Arizona, where it snowed on March 24th. A little late, for me to grow avocados outside.
This is amazing knowledge. I planted a couple of seeds in soil a couple of weeks ago (in Holland) and have amazing results already with some seedlings. Even my friends are impressed haha. I discovered many growing tactics myself, but your video made me confident im on the right track. You talk about all the topics beginner growers find interesting, like pot size, grafting etc, hat off to you sir!
You just got yourself a new subscriber. I live in northern Norway. It's unusually warm up here ..Normally at this time it would be around 0 degrees at nighttime. But now it's almost 10 degrees. Has been up to 16 degrees at day time. I hate the cold but I know this is due to climate change and it's far from good. I've been growing avocado plants indoors for the past year and I will continue to do so. I truly enjoy it. I know I can learn so much from you sir! thank you so much for a wonderful video and a great YT page!
Tegomassai, thank you for the compliment on the page, i appreciate it. We've got a subscriber from Oslo Caroline who also has a few avocado trees growing indoors. I had a chance to visit your beautiful country in 2008 and I loved it...got lucky with some of the unseasonably warm weather you're talking about. Ate a lot of Salmon, took a nice evening boat cruise...you live in paradise. Stay close to the channel and reach out if you have questions.
OK, thank you.......This pruning lesson was valuable. You just made a big change in my avocado growing plans for I was getting a lot of Charlie Brown saplings and I was scared to cut the tops off. Very good example of making the tree more bushy.
Thank you thank you thank you.....such a good video explaining how to plant and repot etc...got the planting and pruning right....now waiting for it to grow..God bless you😊😊
Hi Bud, I was lucky to stumble across yo channel ,and what a load of useful info. My little Avo tree I rescued from our compost heap where it had sprouted and now it’s coming along nicely, but here in Wales UK I doubt it will ever go out side too cold and wet. So I’ll keep it as a house plant . Thanks again and keep up the good work, Al .
Alan, that's great. So many subscribers to this channel have found their tree sprouting in the compost heap. It's a surprisingly common origin story. Stay close the the channel and good luck with the tree!
Thanks for saving the seedling 🌱. It's kind of like saving a puppy or a kitten. Avocados won't grow outside here in Washington state either but I will try cold hardy banana trees this year. Cheers!
This is the best show regarding avocado and 01:42 was the best part, I ever see !. To me its looks like "Avocados On The Storm". Here in Indonesia, we have a lot variety of avocado and locals are grow them in their yards.
Thanks Tamim. I appreciate you pointing that out because I strive to be me but sometimes in front of a camera it's hard to be yourself. I used to go out to Erlangen on business trips...absolutely loved the place. Also got to see Berlin once.
Saw in your other comment you're in a climate that will require you to protect the tree from he cold in winter months. I'm glad you're going to give it a go! Keep us posted.
@@SleepyLizard ok thanks for commenting some nice things and facts for me to grow a avacodo love your vids and I will continue to watch them and support you
@@SleepyLizard you deserve it man!! Can't wait to get some grafting when they become available on your website again,, I have a seedling from a Russell avocado.
I've had the pleasure of visiting your country on business and I loved it! I was impressed with how you use the roofing material of your houses to collect and purify rainwater.
thank you so much for your enthusiasm in sharing your info... i learned so much.... i also planted avocado seedling fr seeds growing pretty good in my farm....but no fruits yet....i was planning to do grafting for a better produce....
Inspiring! Thanks! I'm in the Philippines same zone as you but on this side of the world. I'm planting Cacao from my very on Cacao pod that I harvested myself and the seedlings are some 2½ months now. It gives me so much happiness doing gardening. I will try the avocado! 🤗❤️
@@SleepyLizard thanks man! I have some pictures of my first babys steps doing my thing and my cacao is thriving here! Hihi… *(“,)* the Avocado we have here looks like yours! Not the little dark suckers but the big massive green ones! 🥑🤗
Hi! This is the best video about avocado growing that I've seen. Thanks a lot and greetings from cold region of Russia! So as you possibly could get l'm going to try grow it in a flat ;) Wish you all best )
Thank you for watching and commenting. I'd love to do a little vid about you growing your tree in a flat in Russia. Send me an email, tomsiddonsfl@gmail.com. I've been collecting pictures and stories from growers all around the world for a vid i'm working on.
@@SleepyLizard I've just started it a day ago so it may take some time before a pictures will be possible to be taken ) Anyway I could find your email address in you channel bio so I will send it you if I will get any success on avocado growing. I hope to have success because have another growing experience (hot peppers)
@@agurjagur that's great, you already started it! thank you so much for reaching out. and yeah, whenever you feel comfortable. just remind me who you are in the email because right now I only know you by your RU-vid handle. (which is in an alphabet I don't understand, ha)
thanks for the subscription. I'm not sure what it's like in Dubai although I picture it in my mind as hot and dry so you may need to water every other day. Touch the soil and make sure it's damp, not soaked but damp. If it feels dry then water.
You have a wonderful personality. Your authenticity is infectious. **I've done all of those techniques, and I learned so so so much! Launching...ha. **Prune. Got it. Do I need to look for a bud, or whatever it's called, or can I just snip it anywhere? **I'm sooooooooo happy i found you.
For the younger trees the best way to prune is to simply pinch off the little star of new growth you'll see forming at the top of the tree, that will stimulate lateral growth and stem thickening.
I'm so glad I found this channel! I've got 10 avocado seeds growing in my window. Question: Can I skip the repotting steps and just put the seedlings in a giant pot instead of working my way up in sizes?
I think is more about connection with ourselves and listening to our inner voice more than learning on mistakes but overall we all have same conclusion
Hi. I just pruned the 6 seedlings I sent a video of. You're 100% right 😂 😂 it WAS difficult to do psychologically and emotionally 😂 😂 I'm still kind of doubting myself. But I left at least 2 leaves on each plant, so I feel a little less doubtful.
@@SuperPoopgoblin Oh yeah, that is in my control and yes, I always save that for the end. I don't wanna interrupt the message and turn people off by trying to sell to them. In rare instances I'll reference the online store like if i'm demonstrating grafting and I have to tell people who don't have access to cuttings where they can get them but that's part of the message I'm delivering. Anyhow, thank you for the compliment, it's great to meet like minded people.
I love 😍 your video, I'm interested now in planting commercial avocado farm in my country, I need your suggestion what kind of avocado I should plant....we have about 26 typhoon a year. The strongest this year was typhoon Rolly a 200km/hr cyclone(typhoon).
Believe it or not, I have to go on a heart healthy diet and I found your channel because of that avocados are you really pick me up today? I’m gonna do that after I eat my avocado good for you.
I planted mine in damp cotton balls in a solo cup and put a clear cut water bottle to keep the humidity in and just waited without any work for months and it worked
The Gleason's map is a good representation of the flat earth as "it is". Flight patterns make more sense on this map. The bedford level is a good experiment to show lack of curvature over distances. All the astronauts are freemasons. I love avocados too. Haha. My 1 year old from seed is about 4ft tall and 2.5 ft wide. Been in the ground about 6 months now. Had it in my greenhouse before that. Central Florida.
Man I’ve seen like 10 plus of your videos and I gotta say I love your style of content and I’m going to keep consuming it as I’m learning a lot. Curious since you’re growing avocados, where do you live?
@@SleepyLizard Actually youtube had recommended me a video of yours about grafting, and from there lead me to this one! I had never heard of that before and thought it was really interesting. unfortunately, I am in a college dorm for now and not much room for growing plants, but I will definitely keep that in mind when I move back to a home with a larger garden!
Love your positive Energy. I started to grow 2 Avocados a little over a year ago and have never pruned them. I'm wondering if its too late to prune them now, because I want them to grow more "bushy". Greetings from Germany
Soren, thank you for reaching out. I used to travel to Erlangen on occasion. Beautiful part of the world. Anyhow, no it's not too late. One thing you can do is look for new horns of growth and pinch them off with your fingers, that should trigger lateral growth. Do you keep them indoors?
Yeah I keep them indoor. Sorry but I don't really understand what you mean. So I shouldn't cut it but just keep it from growing vertically by controlling the growth? thanks for your advice :)
Question: is it possible to wait too long to do the first pruning? my little tree is under a year old (but getting close to a year since i first started sprouting it), and i've never pruned it because i didn't realize i needed to until now. it's just a long (3 foot tall) stem with leaves coming off the sides all the way up -- no branches. And to prune it, would i only take off the top leaves, or would i take them ALL off? thanks so much, really enjoy your videos!
Hello from cold Russia 🇷🇺 Thank you for this amazing channel! I’m growing avocado as my first plant (had troubles growing really anything before) and my roommate told me it looked as if it had not enough sun. By your videos I understood that everything is right 👌 now I only need to try pruning and i have a question: is there any specific place where you should cut or just where you feel like?
Furious, the best place to start pruning would be when the very top starts to push out a new horn of growth you can just pinch that off with your finger. Otherwise if you want to cut the stem go up about 12 inches or so.
There’s a small place in California, 20 minutes close from San Francisco where the population is 80 % latinos, mostly Mexicans and they planted in their front or back yards avocado trees that are giving hundreds of fruits! The oldest trees are around 50 yo. The average weather in this small city varies from 44 F to 77 F and rarely below 36 F or above 88 F. If I google the question: What zones can avocado trees grow? This is the answer: “Avocado are subtropical trees, accustomed to warm weather and semi humid climates. They only grow in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zone 8 through 11, but they don’t do well throughout those zones” But if I google the question like this: Does avocado trees grow around SanFrancisco Area? It show this: “Yes, it is true, you can successfully grow avocados in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout low elevation Northern California” *It is right the avocado trees grow more successfully right around the equator (latitudes at the 0 degree). However, avocado trees can grow in warm, frost-free gardens between the latitudes of 30 degrees north to 35 degrees south. *A better choice when growing avocado trees in zone 8 is the Mexican avocado, which can tolerate temps down to 19-20 F. *Having a avocado tree is a great investment because avocados are expensive! Here around San Francisco just one avocado 🥑 can cost between $0.60 to $3.00 dollars. *All this is just information, I’m fan of Mother Nature and avocado trees 😊
Thanks very much for your teaching is wander full to learn I have abocado tree is about 2 foot tall ,but. I don't want to keep as a house 🏠 plant, I want that three give me fruit 🥑 but I have a problem, I don't haven't terrens only my Small apartment, but however I don't give up, nd. I'm going to go forward if is a GOD will He going to BLESSED that little three with fully of fruits . thanks very much GOD BLESS YOU AMEN
Maro, good luck with the seedlings. Take a look at this vid, it tells you everything you need to know to get fruit from your trees: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ySeetOBf7og.html
Maro first thing is first in order to get fruit in around 5 years you will have to graft you avocado plant very soon as soon as it reaches the thickness of a pencil if you don't graft you will have to wait anywhere from 8 to 12 years. If you don't know how to graft check videos out here from the same person he is super good.
@Maro Nalla You could buy one grafted tree to be sure to get some good tasting fruit than at a later date buy some scions and graft on to your seedling. You can buy scions to graph onto your seedlings or if you know someone with a tree that is fruiting they may give you a branch from their tree. Unless you graph a scioñ you could wait and water for years and miss out on Avacados when you could buy a fruiting Avaçado and have fruit fairly soon. I am going to buy a Gem that's semi dwarf and fruits every year and a Reed that fruits every other year. Both are smaller trees and the Reed is slim and upright and the Gem is bush and note as tall. More wide. Then I would like some scion branches to put on seedlings with a variety of different Avaçado types. For sure would like a Nabal plus many other good àvacado variety to pick from. This way you don't have to wait many years to enjoy this super food according to experts. Good luck. Sounds like your doing good with your seedlings. I think you have a great climate for growing. 👍🏼
Coulda, shoulda be a teacher. You have what it takes. But, perhaps better served in what you are doing.🥑. Very creative in the composition of your videos. The rain was a nice piece. Good luck.
Will they produce avocados if grown as a house plant? Do you cut the stem based on moon phase? I ask that bc my parents do all their farming based on the moon phases. Thanks in advance! Just found your channel and I am loving it!
The thing is when grown from seed it's very difficult and takes a long time to get fruit. Also, if kept indoors there's no pollination so a tree kept as a house plant won't produce fruit.
I planted an avocado seed about 6 months ago and have a beautiful growing tree. I did transfer my tree outside for the summertime and am concerned about how it will do when I bring it back indoors for the winter. If you have any tips, I would love to know them.
