A pro tip i learned over the past few decades when putting seeds directly into fertilized soil, is to make a hole in the middle the size of a Jiffy or Coco pellet, fill that in with either Coco coir, or used Soil from other grows, put the seed in there, 100% germination rate and no more burning seeds with fertilizer, the roots will expand much quicker to look for nutrients. Its a win win situation. Been many years that i managed to not get a seed to germinate, but hey even after 20 years i have done it again and burned a seed that was in a Jiffy, i used mycos and kelp, apparently that was already too much for the poor little seed 🤣. Great Video, thanks for sharing.
Honestly I believe the reason you were burning was because you were making soil to hot. In a nutshell adding too much nutrients in soil. Basically overfeeding With seedlings less is always better. Which dude points out in video. Just get a bag of happy frog and don't add anything til after at least 30 days..it will have enough nutrition to thrive til then or transplant to a more nutrient rich soil Happy frog is mild for seeldling. Only time I've ever had seeds not germating is because of the age of seeds..
Seed souldn’t burn when using organic fertilizer because they are only avail once the soil microbes break them down. Seeds will germinate before that happens. In nature these natural fertilizer are available in soil and seed germinate just fine.
Just finished my comparison Dr Earth vrs Gia Green. Both turned out great but Dr Earth I wasn’t rushing to top dress. Plus it’s much more available and cheaper. Dr Earth for the win.
Did you do anything other than water between feeding every 3 weeks. I just started my first run with Dr. Earth and I'm just wondering if I'll need to supplement feedings with teas or something like molasses. Thanks for any input
@@timwaryk8949 yeah once a week I gave em a compost tea with recharge as well Roots organic microbes charge and Terp tea bloom with the Recharge. The teas was very dilated of NPK tho I used like a 1/8th of the dosage. Last 10 days of flower finished with Terpinator Honestly tho the only thing I would recommend to add is the Recharge. I just had the Terp tea and Terpinator so went ahead and used a lil bit..
@@timpage5021 thanks for the reply. I ordered Recharge after I sent you the question earlier. Thanks again for the reply. I did one small run with the Dr Earth but never added microbes and was disappointed. My fault. Live and learn. Thanks again
Thank you very much for such a detailed guide! I followed your ratios exactly in 5 gallon pots, including adding liquid kelp and an organic sugar every few waterings. Grew some gorgeous and huge plants and I ended up with slightly over a pound excluding trim, off of 5 plants in a 4x4 tent and the quality is amazing too. Water ph stayed between 6.4-6.7 the whole run (using pure lemon juice to ph down) and this was under 3 150w groplanner led lights. Amazing method!
@@BluntSocietytheres always T&B naturals for ph up amd down. I switched from the colored bottels to TnB, suposed to be natural hence 'natural' . Google it. Their the ones who also sell them co2 cannisters
I like Dr. Earth as it does work really well and is easy to use. I had so many issues with my first round of autos due to transplant shock and all sorts of newbie mistakes. I decided my next go to avoid starting the seeds in giant pots but also avoid transplant shock I started them in Root Riot cubes but made the mistake of not having a humidity dome though they did well. I decided to start 2 more seeds by simply putting them in a small bag with paper towel them putting it on top of my light covered by thick dark cardboard until they grew a good tap root then planting directly into the pot and putting a humidity dome on them. I use coco and happy frog mix which I really like so far compared to other soils or mixes I’ve used. So far I’m happy with how well it worked and how much quicker they are growing. I plan on testing a few methods with different seeds so we shall see.
I do this method as well . I’ve been consistently pulling 5 to 7 oz per plant no problem from my autos as a beginner. Could not recommend it more it’s so easy and low maintenance 👍
@@tyler238 sorry don't usually see comments. But 5 gal fab pots and I was using a viparspectre p2500. I still have 2 of those lights as well as Mars hydro fce4800
yeah i love dry amendments you dont have to worry about a feeding schedule you just kinda eyeball it and top dress occasionally. gaia greens pretty great but expensive and it takes awhile for the nutes to be available to the plants.
Dr Earth simple the best organic products on the market at great price I been using for 5years and you can combine them in blends to create super fertilizer s I love Dr Earth plants stay very healthy
Yes sir on the right path with the germination. I soak in water for about 24hrs then put in paper towel an put the paper towel in zip lock bag an 24hrs later boom nice tap root.
I started growing 3 years ago. After 6 mo of research into different types of growing, I decided to go organic. Dr. Earth has always been my source for organic dry amendments. I've been very satisfied with the results. My current grow incorporates 5 gal. self wicking buckets. The results have been explosive!
@@bryanroberts I used 7 gal fab pots before switching. I'll continue to use the SWB's from here on out. An added advantage of the SWB is the reservoir at the bottom provides not only a constant source of water, but if a deficiency occurs, you can use a hydro nutes to immediately correct the issue.
I love this video, I honestly hate the idea of chemical fertilizers and I have been using them for two years now growing hydroponic leafy greens. I am moving to soil as I see how well soil can do in two bioactive reptile tanks I have. Keeping roots and stems to break down to refeed the soil.
Im using happy fog soil and I amended it with doctor earth according to what it says to give and planted the seeds directly in the soil and used MorTime 6 Pack Garden Cloche Plant Dome, 7.3" D x 6.9" H Plastic Plant Bell Covers and used a pump sprayer with a attachment that makes it mist and misted the top of the soil and the inside of the domes and all 4 plants came up with no problem. I think my problem has been that I was adding calmag when I didn't have to and kept having problems with spotting and slow growth but I am going to try not adding any calmag and see how that goes this time.
Thank you brother for your comments man I'm going to follow what you do as far as your seedlings because I too have had trouble germinating recently and I think that your idea is a good idea and your mix is awesome and I will choose it also thank you for your help
Been using dr earth and its been great, so easy to use this should be the #1 fert recommended for new growers. Eventually you will figure out additives to bring alone with you. I use the dr earth veg, happy frog bloom which is basically the same as flower girl, myco fungi, recharge, molasses, and the final; liquid kool bloom once a week in flower.
I have your original video like this bookmarked. Thanks for the update. Do you still feed every 3 weeks in 3 gallons? Or do you bump that down a little since there aren’t as many nutes being put into the soil at each feeding?
Stealth grow gives you the easiest, best full explanation of grow with nutrients I've ever seen on RU-vid. This fella really explained it better than all the RU-vidrs with Thousands followers
Here I thought it was gonna be a modest setup and then he breaks out the apogee. I’m glad you made the point about overdoing it with organic. It’s infinitely worse to have a hot organic soil. At least you can leach out the salts but you can’t really wash out the organic material. You can only dilute.
trying this but mixed before I saw this vid. I used worm castings and ProMix. 1/2 cup DE Veg and 1 Tsp Billions. Did not think to add the DE Bloom until later but that makes sense to me. next time. I've only grown with salts so far. hoping for a clean grow. Hope I didn't F it up. Thanks for the vid. would love an update on these, don't see anything on this tent so far. I think this is the 4x4
Hey bro I really think you’re awesome but you need to start your seeds 24 hour soak and then put them in a Coco core blend to really aerate the roots and get them supercharged then put them in your super soil you will be amazed
Look into fertoz for slow-release P. Look at granite meal for slow-release K. Look into Microgrow soil inoculant (dry). Look into MontanaGrow for available silicon for strong stems. These will really kick your recipe into overdrive.
I see many growers mix up their soil in one large batch and it is easier and a time saver. What you need to keep in mind when you do this is that one pot may end up with much more nutrient than the other. When mixing for a single pot you know exactly how much of each amendment is in that pot.
@@kenshinhimura9387 Mix as well as you want but you still have no way of knowing how much dry nutrient gets into each pot. If you mix each one separate it's exact!
I've always had good results from Dr Earth's mixes for tomatoes and veggies, the 444 mix, and the Flower Girl. I grow photo period plants and Dr Earth's has been great. I'm trying Ocean Forest and Happy Frog on my current run and so far the plants don't need anything else but when they do it'll be Dr Earth's.
@@jameslower8486 I grew one plant in mostly Happy Frog with some Ocean Forest, but I don't know what ratio. And I think the other 3 are mostly Ocean Forest. I have an Apple Fritters plant that needed to be fed about halfway through flower, and 3 Westport Grape Juice plants that I top dressed when I did the Apple Fritters to prevent any deficiencies. The Apple Fritters probably could have taken more fertilizer (Flower Girl and worm castings), but they're all close to harvest and fading. I cut, dried and smoked a little bit of the Grape Juice and it's super extra sticky and potent. I hope I can get the plants dried and cured right, but my temps are high in the house.
I love Dr earth my last grow I only used Dr earth all purpose 444 and got 20 oz from my 3x3 I just recently got the home grown tomatoe and herb flower girl is next awesome video thanks for the info
I've been using Dr Earth for ten years and still love it by the way you sound like an old Sub i had years ago named NV med grower? I'm subbed back up brother 💚🌱💨✌️ PS Espoma tomatoe tone garden tone are also great 🤙
Have you changed your soil any since then? What’s your top dress schedule and feeding schedule? Are you doing just water or compost tea? Sorry for all the questions I’m really new
Only add microbes. Worm castings and maybe a batch of perlite every year or 2 and you can re use. Remember to re amend dry amendments after each harvest fort the plant used most of the amendments of the previous soil batch.
If using any of the coco blends i would re-buffer the medium in cal-mag before using again. Coco breaks down exposing new cation exchange sites and if not buffered, problems await.
Read all the comments can’t find a substitute for that medium. Ideas? Thank you! Awesome video. Will be rocking this. Will be checking out the rest my man.
Any inert growing medium will work. Look for sphagnum peat moss or coco coir. Don't forget to add some perlite to the mix to improve drainage and improve air/water retention.
I use 4 gallons buffered coco off brick w/4 quarts perlite to 5 g pots. Then amend like creator of video shows. Coco bricks are are so friggin cheap compared to bagged products.
Loved the intro brother I'm use that royal tupur it's not so expensive I'm see how it goes and yeah can please explain the ppfd and dli for different schedules like 18/6 20/4 24/7 thanks man I have a hard time with that people say to run CO2 for higher ppfd ?
Co2 only required if EVERYTHING and i mean everything else is dialed in. I wouldnt worry about co2 unless you have a bit of know how and then co2 will boost yield by quite a bit in a SEALED environment. Thats key 😊
Thanks for sharing! I have just one question. Why are you so concerned about watering with ph controlled water? Most soils seem to be acidic by nature. I'm growing my 1st auto in my greenhouse right now(almost ready!) in a soil I made from peat moss, compost, leaf mold, worm castings and perlite and have been seeing a lot of hubbub online about ph so I thought I'd check mine. My well water's ph is about 7.5 and the leach from my pot comes out at around 5.8 so I think ph is more of a worry with any type of hydro set up than it is with soil but I'm just an old trial and error vegetable gardener curious about your reasoning.
Currently doing a dr earth vs gaia green vs both in one bag experiment with three auto banana blazes. I use home grown-flower girl-exotic tropical blend, 2-3-1 tablespoons per gallon of medium in 7gal pots under a 150 watt light, gonna add another 100w soon. Have you ever tried using the tropical palm blend? Its got a bit more sulfur and magnesium than the homegrown,, according to the ingredients list. I'm having pretty good results, both indoor and outdoor! My outdoor photos this season are all monsters, and all grown in coco-castings-compost with dr earth. Cant wait for late september!
@@bbolton021398 This first experiment is a bit scuffed, on account of a bad batch of seeds with really low germ rates and two of the three plants were sprouted a month after the first. But so far, the smallest plant appears to be the Gaia Green bag, the Dr earth bag is what i'm calling the medium plant, and the combination Dr Earth+Gaia Green bag is doing the best out of the three, with a massive 2.3 square foot canopy. It's filling a whole side of my 2.5ftx5ftx7ft grow tent. I just got some new bar-style grow lights so I expect these autos will finish strong. I will be repeating this experiment under the new lights over the winter, hopefully with better germination rates. lol
I fallowed these exact directions I used coco and I got GDP autos from ILGM. Monday is day 28 I have been doing lst and holy heck has it gone amazing. I haven’t had one sign of problems and they are just beautiful. it’s all organic and they are bushing out nicely thanks 😃
just starting GDP autos from ILGM today using this method ..Glad to hear that this is working for You ..I cant wait to see my results too...Thanks for your post ..
@@John-vd6sk today is day 56 for both and one looks 2 weeks ahead of the other, I did lst and leaf tucking one plant is taking up half the tent and they are sturdy. The smaller plant is getting just as big as the other and they look exactly the same.
@@rodofsteel6662how many watts are you growing under? I only have a 100 watt from Spider Farmer and I’m wondering if it’s enough for two plants. I want to try one with and one without worm castings to see how much difference it makes.
@@rodofsteel6662 Rod , glad to hear that your grow has taken off.I had the same problem ..I had 2 seeds pop on Sept 1st but I had one plant take off really slow just getting its 2nd set of leaves and the other one is on its 5th set and looks great..I'm sure the slow one will take off as well but like yours looks 2 weeks behind the other...
I switched to Gaia green and I love it but I did use this at first maybe that's where I went wrong I used the all-purpose and the bud Bloom booster did not use the Tomato vegetable herb fertilizer
Wonderful video and very helpful! Would you be able to advise what measurement of worm castings you are using for your 5 gallon pots? I see you have a scooper but wanted to be sure if it was a cup...2 cups..etc per 5 gallons.
I do two to amend and 1 cup at top dressing. Day 21 50/50 and 0 wc at 42 with 70b/30veg seems to be working. Now been adding Recharge. Still playing with it
I have some other stuff a friend gave me , oyster shell langbinite, azomite, humic acid. Can I add these to my soil make up 1 tbs per gallon or is that over kill.
Yes, you would want to feed with a top dress of DE around the beginning of flower. Every few weeks should work well as long as you remember to skip the nutes for last cpl weeks.
Why grow auto's indoors in the first place? Is there some advantage to do doing that? Surely growing from clones in an NFT Hydro system under HPS Lighting is the best way to grow. That's what all the commercial farms use.
I followed this to the T. However, all the of my plants are showing Magnesium deficiencies starting at day 10. By day 15 I was able to diagnose and spray/feed a bit of diluted Epsom salts. Have you dealt with that issue on this soil build? 3 different stains from the Mephisto Genetics catalog.
do you ever add a little epsom/calcium/dolomite to that mix just to make sure they get enough cal/mag as well as it buffering your pH a little? Thinking about it right now while I prepare this exact mix for my current autos.
@@stealthgrows last one, do you see a problem using rice hulls in place of the perlite in Tupor? I'm wanting to use canna coir and rice hulls in place of the Tupor coir and perlite for my base.
So would you advise against using only the veg fertilizer or only the bloom fertilizer in any stage of growth, always using it as a mixed ratio for photoperiods and autoflowers? I've recently checked out the dr earth website and apparently they're listing the nutrient contents now, flower girl is listed at 13% calcium but it doesn't show that analysis on the bag of the fertilizer itself, only the website so I'm unsure which it actually is. For the veg, the nutrient content of calcium of 7.5% matches the amount listed on the bag.
Hiw about layering soil in so that tue bottom is more heavily amended? What I did was loaded the bottom ⅔ of the pot with almost double dosed soil then filled the top with the suggested amount and then I dig out a hole and fill it with plain potting soil and plant my seed in there. Nit sure if double dose is too much. Was trying to not feed at all once amended just water. Now I'm kind of worried it will burn but have read you can over do it with organic fertilizer like Dr. Earth and it's won't burn that it's just synthetic/salt based fertilizer will fuck it up. But idk. Imma be brave. It's a test.
I'm just confused if you just mixed that up how can u use it without cooking the mixture for a few weeks so the microbial live is alive and feeding your plants?
It comes with microbes in the bag and some of the nutes are water soluble meaning it's available right away. No need to cook. By the time you top dress the first set of nutes are broken down.
Since you're growing organics, what are you using for pH up and down? How about the calmag? And how many tbsp are you using for the molasses and liquid seaweed?
you don't ph organics. cal mag isn't needed like most youtubers claim, molasses is 1 spoon per gallon of water seaweed you need to read the label but just go with organic kelp.
@@goodluck that's not exactly true. You always ph your water. You also allways use cal-mag when using reverse osmosis water. Ph your water to 6.0 and you'll be golden. You don't want to be pouring 8.0 ph water into your pots.
