So, i bought English Ivy, Virginia creeper and Boston Ivy, here in Buffalo, NY.,. Zone 6. I want it outside for a chain link fence privacy in the city. As soon as i planted it, they got bitten up leaves bad, and of course weeds overcame them, I sprayed with Neem, seems better., Will these plants survive the winter, stay evergreen and mostly grow big for multiple feet?

I have so much English Ivy growing all around my home, and I want to have some indoors to help with air quality and mold spores -- is it possible to cut one big vine at a time from outside, put the large cutting straight into a pot and have a healthy larger plant that will thrive indoors? Or do you always have to chop them up into pieces and put them in water first? Thnx!
@Helena-wv2zo
@Helena-wv2zo 2 года назад
I have one large branch that I have been propagating from outdoors and so far it’s been doing well. It’s only popped out one root so far after about 20 days.
@sandy_carpetsthesecond5013
@sandy_carpetsthesecond5013 2 года назад
You can cut them as one long vine if you want, You can cut them as small or as big as you want. It should be said though that larger cuttings can be a little unpredictable as they need more roots to support the larger cuttings- Though, it might not take them too long as they contain more energy. You could try adding a very dilute fertiliser though, I added a few drops of pre-diluted water soluble fertiliser to my water propogations upstairs and the roots seemed to have liked that because they've been growing slightly quicker than they had been.

Don't let it get started in the ground, it will take over the place, it will cover the house, the trees,the ground,everything. My question here is, how do I kill it? I thought I had this here killed off several years ago, but it came back. Winter will not kill it. Thanks Deepak.

Wow.. I was totally unaware about this invasive plant. Need to really be hunk about it before we gat to plant it. Best way would be keeping confined in the pot I believe. Thanks for bringing into our attention. .
@BushImports
@BushImports 4 года назад
@@myalivesoul Yes, keep it confined to a container. Do you know a way to kill it. I can't get what I used on it before, I think I might have been able to kill it out completely if I had done a followup on it, I thought I had it killed, I don't know what I missed that made it possible for it to tome back. Thanks Deepak, you guys take care.

I've had success in killing roots with a mixture of 1 part epsom salts, 7 parts vinegar, 1 part dish soap and 4 parts water.. Pour epsom salt into water and stir until dissolved.. add vinegar, stir again, then add dish soap. Uproot undesired plants *as much as you can* and then pour the solution into the soil. This solution also works as a grub killer.
@BushImports
@BushImports 3 года назад
@@RainbowFlowerCrow Does it work specifically on English Ivy also or just roots in general? It would have to be sprayed on the trees also because they can live just off the tree even if they are not attached to the ground I think. Thank you.

My goodness, this is the best video I've found! Thank you for showing us! Question, do I need to transplant into bigger pots? Or to the ground? I want to cover the railings of my deck with Ivy, may I leave them in a medium pot and place them next to the railing?
@myalivesoul
@myalivesoul 2 года назад
If you put them in the ground eventually they will grow more then your expectation. So you need to prune them in timely manner. But if you want to put them in pots they won’t grow very tall and long cuz of limited space. Sorry or late response. I appreciate your comment.

thank you for this, it is encouraging to learn. I have a variegated ivy that was so beautiful and now the leaves of 2 the long branches have dried out and the stem looks green on the inside as i trimmed the tip, 2 little branches have completely died, one long and one short branches seem ok. I have it at the top of my book shelf. I probably didn't water it fast enough on some hotter days. It kept on drying up after i did water it. Is there something i can do to revive it?? is it better to water from the top or to soak it for a little while ??? when is it good to fertilize?? i appreciate the help :->

My english ivy has lost most of its leaves. I have changed to a north window thinking the south window may have been too much. The pots have good drainage...I water 1x week thoroughly. I make sure it does not sit in water. My husband started watering just from the bottom to see if that helps. ANY information is appreciated!

I'm not OP, but it's ok to add as much water has been lost to absorption and evaporation water during the 1st 15 days. Ivy is very hardy, and you will see roots in time💜
