This is perfect timing! I just started trying to grow oysters in a monotub. No pins yet, it's just at the white fluffy stage now. Glad to know that's normal!
Can't you buy oysters at the supermarket? That's what I don't get. All they sell here in grow kits are oysters. They also got other kits but you can buy these mushrooms in the supermarket. Like woohoo grow your own white button mushrooms. Sell me something different!
@@jhowardsupporter It depends on the super market and the species of oyster. That’s also like saying gardening is pointless. It’s about having fun not growing the most exotic shit you probably wouldn’t eat lol
is there any difference to grow cubensis from oyster? i had a really bad experience with cubensis and i'm done with them, but i don't want to waste all the gear i bought for cultivation. I mean from start to finish, agar germination, type of grain in the spawn, type of substrate, fruiting stage and other flushes.
Would you ever do a series on growing different types of mushrooms? Maybe they can't all be grown in a monotub, but would love to see videos on growing lions mane, turkey tail, shiitake, etc. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO, YOU ARE AMAZING!
Enjoyed your work! Just started my own oysters in a monotub last week and is colonizing nicely so far. Just a tip I have seen from other growers for getting more flushes. After first harvest cut out all shooms including pins, soak over night in water(submerged). Drain and expect new flush 2 weeks later. Happy growing!
I use to tape holes and put in a dark place for 7 days. Then remove tape and insert poly fill just like you did. But I have now started introducing to fruiting immediately works better. It also helps farther reduce contaims.
If you use a casing layer you should apply it before it goes into fruiting when you're mixing your grain spawn with your substrate this prevents contamination falling directly onto the mycelium
Great video! Couple of questions: Could you use coco coir as a substrate for oysters instead if you're unable to sterilize straw yourself or get access to pre sterilized straw? Could you use LED grow lights indirectly instead of indirect natural light?
Is it possible to use the "finished" bulk substrate to inoculate more substrate? Is there a reason to restart from grain spawn or is it a personal preference?
Can they be harvested with small sharp scissors? Just getting ready to set up my monotub for blue oyster mushrooms I started in 2 sealed small bags on whole grain brown rise. Filling out inside with mycelium. 🙂
Wouldn't gauze pads work instead polyfill? The bubble bag work bag experiment didn't work so well💔 caught the gnats💩 I'd like to know the right micron screen size to use so I can clean & reuse my equipment??
Would this work in your inflatable monotub? And what kind of water are you using to spray the sides? Because I've read mushrooms like natural spring water the best, would using acqua Panna be overkill or what bran would you suggest?
This is such a great video! This is my first time growing, I'm going to try king oysters in a tub and am wondering if the tub needs air during the colonization period or do I keep the lid on the whole time? Thanks!
I've gotten a plentiful 1st flush but mushrooms have small heads and long bodies. Read that I needed to increase FAE because CO2 is too high. I've been diligent with misting and fanning 2-3 times per day but thinking it also could be that my house it too cold (about 65 to 68 degrees F). Would temperature cause that? I went ahead and harvested what I had in hopes to get a second and better flush. I have a grow light but haven't used it on my mushrooms. Should I?
Hi Ashley. I loved your videos. I have 1 question. At 9:30 of your video, you mentioned the both tubs were fully colonized after 14 days. I wonder why you used polyfil to cover the holes. If the substrate are fully covered by mycelium, other contaminants can’t attack the substrate. Is it ok not using polyfil?
Could I use cotton instead of polyfill for filling in the holes in the monotub? Or perhaps microfiber rags that are dampened to maintain humidity? Thanks!
I'm thinking about doing something similar one with a plant heating pad and one without..my room gets chilly in the winter and don't want to put in humidifiers..any thoughts or other options? Lmk 🙏💚
Hi, thanks so much for the videos. Do you know if you can successfully grow Shiitake and King Oysters in monotubs? Or would you recommend it? I live in a community and we're planning on growing mushrooms for our own consumption (20 people) and I want to start an experiment to see if Monotubs, Buckets and/or bags are best for Oyster, King Oyster and Shiitake but it'd be a great help if you could give us a tip from the start - so we don't waste time on something that won't be likely to work at all! Thanks :)
amazing world of nature I am and a co creator of life as well. I bring cannabis to my awareness and pure joy...As I see you doing the same thank you beautifully kind soul😇
@@BoomerShroomer Thank you...I am a Newbie to mushroom growing...This will be my first attempt at growing them...I have two that I want to grow ...Golden and King....and I'm confused as to what the King needs....I bought hardwood chips and I am waiting for some chopped hay to arrive...I'm retired and am looking for a Hobby that will drive my wife crazy
Why dont you add yr spawn directly to your sterilized Unicorn grow bags ? And fruit within the bags ? Yr monotub seems a bit wasteful and a duplication of effort ! And the only reason i think that you would choose to fruit in a mono tub is cos your grow room environment isnt up to spec, hence the need for a controlled environment in the mono tub ? But no suitable if you want to scale commercially? Can you do a vid on how you manage FAE, temps, humidity and co2 ? Otherwise, great vid and content!
No, I don’t plan to grow commercially. I just grow for fun. I also don’t have a controlled mushroom grow room and that’s why I grow in Monotubs. Just easier and the Monotub controls the temp and humidity quite well.
@@BoomerShroomer Hi, love your enthusiasm, its infectious ! Im a hobbyist too, but trying to make the step up to commercial, so would be very interested in yr approach for mono tubs and a grow room. I may use both approaches, in tubs for the spawn run and then in the grow room to fruit. Oh, and im growing in my garden shed while its freezing outside , temps seems to be holding up but balancing FAE and humidity and co2 is a challenge and interested in yr approach/setup?
@@wande.r these videos are great for a hobbyist like she is doing. wonderful. now if you want to go commercial and sell. that's a horse of a different color. If you don't have the space to build a grow room, use grow tents. use bags instead of tubs. if commercial is in your future. there are no better videos for commercial than "mossy creek mushrooms" on youtube. This video is great and now I see why mushroom farmers don't use tubs. tubs are great for a hobby.
