I saw a 1948 book about keeping goldfish and it recommended feeding them with a mixture of porridge and minced fish meat. I tried that for experiment. Seems to work perfectly. The fish love it. It just requires a bit of extra work.
@@UkKoiFish As far as I understand that used to be the standard way of feeding them before commercial dried fish food became available in the second half of the 20th century.
Is there a good "General" rule of thumb for how a koi should grow? like 1 inch a month? what is considered good or acceptable and what is exceptional? I had some surprise koi fry I was unaware of and it grew almost 5-6 inches in 4-months and i never fed it! Once i put it in the main pond and was getting normal feedings its exploded now at 8-9 inches 7-months
That is some exceptional growth ! On average once they get to 1 year old they should be between 6-8 inches in length. This all depends on how much and what they are fed and the temperature of then water
@@UkKoiFish Amazing! I know who the father is & he grew about the same...outgrew all of the other fish at same size same time...this one fish is twice the size of the other fry & looking amazing! i am quite happy at my growth this year.
