Thank you so much! Definitely helped me with our seeds. I think my problem was being too scared to beat them up too much. Also, where did you get your harvesting knife? I’ve seen it before and heard great things!

Thanks- happy to help!! We are very fortunate to have excellent tap water with no need to filter or ph balance. I do suggest when starting out to test your water. With that being said though - using a high quality potting mix is very forgiving with water ph! 👍

We use a nice simple Mercer Produce Knife- it's light, a great length, and stays sharp quite well (and sharpens easily) amzn.to/3tG2VBY

Yes- They are AMAZING in salads! Sunflower is incredibly versatile & pairs well with salads, stir-fry and even desserts!

Does the misting on top help with not having mold problems?

Excellent Questions Justine- The misting is primarily to soften the seed hulls and make them easier to brush off. If you are experiencing persistent mold issues , you may need to do some troubleshooting: Check your Temperature, Humidity, Airflow, etc.... In most cases, fertilizer is not necessary- especially when growing in Soil/Potting Mix and for quick growing crops under 10 days. However, We do use Gaia Green in some of our longer growing crops.

What trays do I use? I don't have grow lights so can I just put in daylight?

We use Bootstrap Trays. We can grow with just sunlight but it will possibly take long and growth might not be consistent.

I grew SF for the first time this week and the main leaf started coming out on day 9 so I went ahead and harvested. Was that proper or should I have waited another day? I got 12 oz from that tray seeding 4 ounces so well under your yield amount in the video. Little disappointed in my yield. Not sure what went wrong.

That's perfect! Because everyone's environment & seeds will be slightly different (and because we can't control nature) you'll have some variation in grow time. You were correct to harvest when the true leaf started showing. 🌱

We've found that sunflowers get tall enough to comfortably harvest without the blackout. Stretching them any more would only make them too long and lanky.

I grew sunflower sprouts accidentally. Here’s 4 steps the lazy man way. 1- buy a bird feeder, fill it with sunflower bird feed. 2- find a dirt patch in your yard, dump a bag of garden soil on it. 3- hang your bird feeder above your dirt patch, keep your soil moist. 4- wait, be lazy and let the birds do their thing. Tada fresh sprouts daily.
