When most current youtubers were still in their nappies we were hacking the old GH2 - ah the good old days! I had to put my camera back into std firmware mode a year or so ago as I had a shoot and needed a stable camera but I'm game to do it again!

@@madsciencefilms I use to mess around with it when it first came out. I was more of a follower than a leader :0 The fast memory card was a must, I still have it and in those days it was quite pricey $100 ? I think. Just play around with the setting and read the personal view forum and don't use this if you're shooting a wedding or interview as it may and probably will crash at some stage :) Great little camera, I have a GH4 but mostly shoot family stuff with my iPhone Pro Max noW though.

I used the GH2, GF3 (!), and GX1 ... the first two with Cake 2.3 and the last with Galaxian V1 to shoot concert footage of my son and his friends. I really like that patch for the GH2 ... better than the others I tried.

@Rob Torres Vitaly gave us the firmware that allowed the settings changes. He also hacked several Canon cameras. All the history is on the PersonalView website.

what color profile do you shoot in? is there a hack to add color profiles? I would like to get a similar color profile between my g7 and my gh2 but im not sure what profile to use of both. Also keep in mind I will be editing in post

For the GH2 I use the smooth profile and set everything to -2. As far as I know there is no hack to get extra or alternative profiles and certainly no log profiles. I would keep the G7 as Cine D and try to match that camera to the GH2. Also, use a colour chart to help match cameras in post production. Hope that helps.

Can't seem to get Ptools to work on Wine in os x catalina. Any chance you could toss me the latest flowmotion firmware so I can just install it directly?

Unfortunately you’ll need ptools to apply the hack. I’ve not tried hacking the GH2 with a Mac so can’t give any guidance on running ptools windows. You could perhaps install windows on a partition on your Mac and run the hack. Having a windows operating system always comes in handy. Sign up to personalview website to get the hacks. If you get issues singing up then try using a strong password. Hope that helps.

Is it worth the hack? For example, in video recording, would the videos occupy a lot of memory? And what is the most different from being with the hack.

It’s worth it if you’re very invested in the image of your video. The hack can produce stunning and detailed HD video. It can fill up space on SD cards, but not to a great extent. Hope that helps.

Tell me, I also use the moon t7 and the original SANDISK Extreme Pro 64 GB 170mb / s V30 i flash drive, but often the recording stops with the message "Recording stopped due to low speed of recording to the SD card" or the camera freezes completely, what could be the problem? can stop randomly: after 30 seconds, and maybe after 3 minutes

Strange it’s doing that. Try formatting the card and try again. If that doesn’t work maybe try a different sd card. I use the 95mb/s version of the sd card and I’ve never had an issue. If you can afford it I would buy the 95mb/s version. Let me know how you get on?

If possible try resetting the camera and hacking again. You don’t need a card faster than 95mb/s so stick with that. Hope that helps.

@@SoundSpeeding I have a GH1 and 2 GH2, I don't use the GH1 for anything. The process is exactly the same an uses the same Ptools version, you just need to download the settings files.

Someone asked me if i hacked mine for the videos im making .. NOPE im just good.. everything on my page currently was shot with the GH2 if people want to see what you can do with it. I use warp stabilizer to make up for the lack of any stabilizer ... its all shot free hand

Thanks for the question. There are a few options: There are lenses such as the sigma F1.4 primes, 16mm, 30mm and 56mm. You can look at Olympus Pro Lenses such as the 17mm F1.2 and 25mm F1.2, Panasonic Leica Lenses 42.5mm F1.4 and 25mm F1.4 - these are more expensive. There are also cheaper, but not as bright, Olympus 17mm F1.8, Panasonic 25mm F1.7 and 42.5mm F1.7. I guess it’s your budget that will dictate which lenses you go for. Hope that helps.

I don’t think there is an option (or hack) to shoot 30fps Full HD. As it stands I believe you can only shoot 30fps 720p motion j-peg.

@@madsciencefilms I haven't tried this yet, but HBR mode is supposed to be 30fps at whatever the patch allows. Mostly I've been using 24fps and you can get up to around 100mbps. You should look at Sanity X as well as Flowmotion. Most of what I've done has been Flowmotion, but recently went to Sanity X to take a little of the performance issues off the cards. If you run in the high bit rate 24fps, you'll get lots of bit rate, but the low settings will be the sane rates. HBR is full on highest rate it can get, but I haven't really used this mode.

Hi. It’s very much a lottery. If the hack fails and bricks your camera then I don’t believe it can be repaired without a hefty cost and hassle, if can be fixed at all.

I've thought about hacking my GH2, but what I don't understand is why having such a high bitrate really matters? Anything you upload to RU-vid gets reduced to 8 Mbps, so what is the point of recording at 100 Mbps in the first place? Is it really that noticeable? Thanks for the video

polaris911 It’s not essential to hack the GH2. Some reason to consider hacking is that it can remove the 30 minute record limit and allow for high but rate video. High bit rate video means recording more video information and having more detail in your video which makes your footage look much better! This also can be beneficial if you want to grade your footage in post.

TL;DR: the more data, resolution AND FRAMERATES you throw at YT, the better the results. With higher bitrates you can safely convert to high bitrate codecs that keep res, and even upres, and that'll look better and keep more IQ, in general AND when uploaded to YT (all of which is also a good practice for editing - keep H264 originals for backup, edit with DNXHD or PRORES). DISCLAIMER: YMMV! It is known that higher view accounts get better processing, and the algorithm is always changing. Do some research, tests, and you can still find ways to get better results (though there's a LOT of misinformation given many accounts don't realise that "apples aint apples"). Hey! Thanks for reaching out. I would be more inclined to grab a GH1 or GH2 and hack either one. The GF series cameras have (as far as I know) produced underwhelming performances with hacked video. I have a GF3 and did look into hacking it, but the results people were getting didn’t seem worth the effort. Sorry to sound like a killjoy.

I don’t really know, or something that doesn’t require much manual setting, but rather a good auto camera? And if I could get something for less than 500 that’d be cool but I really liked the work my friend produced with his Sony A7iii

Yeah the Sony A7 III is a great camera. It produces lovely video too. If the A7 III is above your budget then the Sony A6300 is quite a good option. It does have an APSC sensor and can overheat for long video recording in warm conditions.

You can still do this in 2022. If you’re using a Mac you can use programmes like wine to run windows software such as ptools.

@@SourceAwareness I listened again and the audio is better than I remembered. However, there is still a hollow echo to the voice, a somewhat excessive high end at times (i.e. too bright), and periods of uncomfortable overload distortion. So not total nonsense but perhaps overstated. I guess that makes it a tie :-)

Thanks for your comment. I did mention in this video the higher bit rates being a reason. The videos main purpose was to show how to hack so decided to keep it as a strict tutorial. I have personal channel which demonstrates the quality these hacks can give if you wish to see... ru-vid.com Hope this helps.

STOP putting background music to videos with *narration* .. it ONLY makes it HARDER to hear what you are saying and is VERY distracting ... EVERYONE STOP DOING THIS.. we are NOT here to listen to music !!
