Now I'm wishing this episode was 60 minutes long; I enjoyed it that much! 😅 Packed full of wise & practical gems, and that upscaled 720 looks really good. I'm going to look more into "The Great Camera Shootout," as that was an excellent, revealing challenge. Director/writer Markus Rothkranz, like you, also speaks honestly about 1080p, and also the great importance of getting it right in-camera. Man, I love your channel! Much Thanks, bruv. 👍

Man, so stoked to see you talking about the GH2. Its been my first and only camera for the past year and i love it. Using the high bit rate drewnet patch. Recently purchased some konica prime lenses and they work so so well with the gh2. Learning something new every time i shoot with this bad boy.

Hey! Thanks for checking out our video. Yeah, we love the GH2. It’s a very special camera and the hacks are incredible. Not messed about with the Konica so may have a look into them. Cheers!

Thanks for this inspiring video! I too love this camera. Important advantage is that the recording limit is removable with the firmware hack. Use it with a dummy battery as a B camera for shooting concerts, and it just keeps filming until card is full! Not possible on the newer models to my knowledge. Only GH5 has that unlocked by default.

Great points highlighted, I used to have a GH2, miss it greatly probably the best DSLR that shoots video on the market at a price. I'm a Sony FS7 Mark 2 owner and ironically have used it in 1080p mode more than UHD or 4K DCI - purely as the delivery for most corporate clients has been 1080p.

Cine Bank Thanks for your comment! It really is a great camera. 1080p is still relevant nowadays even with 12K on the market. For most 12K is over kill in my honest opinion. Cheers again for your comment and please consider subscribing.

I bought the GH1 in 2009, and then the GH2 when it came out. They are on the shelf beside me, but the GH4 is so darn cheap on eBay these days I consider it the no-brainer el cheapo option. A far better camera than the GH2, no hacking needed, plus it does 4K. I love the affordable-ness of Lumix MFT indie and beginner filmmaking options. Andyax has some brilliant examples of cinematic footage on his channel of GH4 being a cinematic beast, back when it was a new camera, proving that creativity is far more important than having the latest 2023 gear.
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms Год назад
Thanks for your comment! Yeah I bought the GH4 before either GH1 or GH2. Andyax was the guy who got me to buy the GH4. It’s a brilliant camera! You’re right, you don’t need the latest cameras to get professional images.

So I just got a GH2 from my buddy who is a professional photographer after he bought a new one. I am new to all this and really excited about learning everything possible about the GH2 and start recording the races for the race car that I crew for. Thank you this helped me learn a lot! What is a good mic you would recommend getting on the cheaper side. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of money to spend right now but would like to get a mic

Wow, amacing video! How do you think, if I shoot mostly vlogging kind of stuff and own Panasonic hc-v770, should I think about getting Lumix GH2? Want to try using several angles and not sure whether GH2 is worth it
@madsciencefilms

The GH2 is a very capable camera, but if you have the budget I’d look at Sony for vlogging as Sony have amazing AF.

It’s the one camera I’ve kept after moving on to other cameras. I picked 2 more as the price dropped, one for just for photos. Being able to capture such a beautiful, cinematic image with small & easy to edit files comes in handy.

Hi ! great video, I have a GH2 and I wanted to know what lens can I buy, not to expensive, to start my journey in cinema and to shoot films ?
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms Год назад
This will depend on budget of course. You can look at vintage lenses for video. The only real issue with that would be getting wide and staying in budget. There are modern manual primes such as the T7artisan and meike.

Thank you for making this video madsciencefilms! I am thinking about buying a GH2 because I saw the movie Upstream Color and I was blown away that it was shot on a GH2. Do you know how they got the GH2 to make it look cinematic in that film? It seems to be a few steps above the other GH2 short films that I see here on RU-vid.
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 3 года назад
Thanks for your comment! Upstream Color is a great looking film and that is mostly down to the skills of the DP. Understating lenses and lighting are major parts of getting the image looking cinematic. The GH2 is special because it’s very cheap and doesn’t hold back a DP as long as they understand and work with its limitations. Also, you can get amazing hacks!

Thanks for the sub!! The sample footage was shot with the sigma 18-35mm, Contax Zeiss 50mm F1.7 & 85mm F1.4. These are not very cheap lenses, but there are alternatives. You can look at the Lumix 25mm F1.7, great in low light and will create a shallow depth of field shot wide open. You also may want to look at vintage lenses? You can find 50mm F1.8 lenses for a good price. Hope that helps.

hi James, greetings from Czechia, i was just wandering, is there any point in buying GH3 ( i can buy the body for 140 bucks) or just find gh2 for less ? im starting to learn the cinematography, i was for 4 years stuck on hobby photography+some small productphotos for small bussinesses, but i want to try the cinematography. my current setup is Fujifilm X-t1 with many many vintage lenses ( takumar 1.4, few carlzeiss 50mm, some russian legends like helios 44m4 etc.) well the problem is that x-t1 does a good job at still footage but not normal video, soo question is, is it worth to buy another camera like GH3 - i could not find any hack similar to gh2 tho :/ thats a bummer or the gh2(but i cannot find that on the used market right now - Czechia )
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 4 года назад
Thanks for your comment! The GH3 is a great camera and shoots really nice video without a hack, plus it can shoot 60fps (slow motion video) in full HD, unlike the GH2 which can only shoot 60fps at 720p. The Lumix GH2 is special a camera when hacked and shooting at 24fps/25fps, but If you’re unable to hack the GH2 then I’d be tempted to go with a GH3. Although, If your budget allows you to, then I’d be tempted to look at some 4K beasts such as the Lumix G8O/G85 or GH4.
@LifeIsBetterOutside
@LifeIsBetterOutside 4 года назад
madsciencefilms thank you, well the budget is low as it can be, maybe 150-250€/$, im looking for some good camera for hobby/learning cinematography basics and once or twice a year make some product video for somebody ( i dont think they would care if it is in 4k or 1080p) but i like the effect of 5x slowmotion so to be able to capture 120fps 1080p in good quality would be nice but 60 is alright bcs in this budget range there isnt many or any option for 120fps
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 4 года назад
Perhaps the GH4 would be your best choice as it has really good frame rate options, but that may be out of your budget. 60fps can give you some good slow motion and those cameras are more affordable. What about the Lumix G70? Not sure how much that is where you are, but I picked one up recently for £225. The GH3 is a solid choice and I know people who are still shooting with that camera for commercial and filmmaking.

You can get great footage out of the GH2, but don't expect a pleasing or flexible looking movie if you shoot on it. You can look at movies that used the GH2 and while it has a look... it's not one that I personally would want to have.
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 3 года назад
It’s very much subjective. I love the look of the Lumix GH2, but I will agree that it’s not a very flexible image so you need to get it right in camera. Thanks for your comment.

I have a G80/G85 which I think probably has a lot on common with the GH2 as it doesn’t have log profiles or raw etc (although it does have 4K). I am quite keen to learn advanced editing skills though which is what makes me feel I want a camera with those kinds of features.... tho maybe editing with the limitations of the G80 will similarly force me to build up my skills before moving onto editing more beefy footage
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 4 года назад
Jimi Can Read I’m thinking of getting the G80 myself as it’s a lovely 4K camera. Reminds me of a slightly watered down GH5. Let the limitations help you improve and once you feel held back by the camera then upgrade. Thanks for watching the video and I hope you’ll consider subscribing 😁.

Hey man, just wondering if you know where in the UK you can get the GH2 repaired? Having a "this battery cannot be used" error, despite buying new ones and using official Panasonic ones. Only had mine a month and was absolutely loving it, such a shame
@madsciencefilms
@madsciencefilms 3 года назад
Hey dude. That’s a bummer! Have you checked the software firmware? Tried to hard reset the camera? Nothing inside the battery compartment, or on the battery contacts? There are a number of places in the UK you can enquire about the issue. Just have a quick google search. Keep in mind the cost of repair and if it’s around £100 (not saying it will be) then buy another one. ATB!
@AlisterMalcolm
@AlisterMalcolm 3 года назад
@@madsciencefilms I haven't tried a hard reset, I can't find anywhere that tells me how to do that other than going into the menus, which I can't do because of the issue. The camera just switches off after displaying that message. The battery contacts seem fine to me. I've been quoted at £96 currently.
