The basics of holding the instrument and strumming chords (or single notes!). The knowledge here is for a Seagull Merlin, but can be easily applied to other instruments, like a pickin' stick.
The main thing is to take it slow and work your speed up over time. Get the downstrokes even, in time, and ringing through all the way before moving to down+up strokes. Then incrementally push your speed (tempo) up as you feel more comfortable.

Most likely? But I actually haven’t used one of them before 😅 but if it’s diatonic fretted then you’ll get the hang of the notes and scales and such and be able to transfer 100% of the knowledge

@@HeyInglewood I am trying to do a rock project with mountain/cigar box instruments, so I was thinking my practicing with a canjo could translate to playing the one-string bass as well as a dulcitar played in this style. (I am thinking of getting a roosebeck wildwood since it has 2 octaves instead of the Merlin's 1 octave...) interestingly there is another similar but albiet different class of instruments called a 'chordstick' (the mcnally strumstick is an example). They descended from a one-string fretless mountain instrument called the pickin' stick. They are played (as the name implies) chorded, like a 3-string guitar if you will. they are often confused for one another because they both have a diatonic fretboard, but are played completely differently, so are different instruments.
