In this video Paul will be taking a closer look at exactly what is REIN & SHINE and how it can impact your internet connection. Paul will also be showing you how you can use and AM/MW radio tuned to frequency 612Khz to identify items that may be giving off electrical interference.

I've had broadband issues for about a year, my routers internet connection keeps resetting, upto 30 times a day. Had 1 sky engineer and 2 open reach engineers out and their best guys was they though they could hear Rein on the line. The noise margin on my line is 19db. I'm going to get a radio and try hunt down a source of the rein! Many thanks

openreach has put the box a) in a cubby hole and b) surrounded by electrical switches. what chance do I have of getting a decent service! ?! I'm paying double what I paid with NOW (old type cables) and getting a poorer service for allegedly superfast fibre because of the openreach location.

Hi @Paul Horsley, I purchased the radio from a local high street store but you can also find them online. The radio I used is a "Bush Personal FM Radio - Black". Its a FM/AM tuner mono speaker personal pocket radio but any AM/MW radio will work so long as you can tune it to 612Khz. I hope this helps, Thanks, Paul

I was wondering if you could help me. Basically we were originally with BT, had no issue with it what so ever. However one of my family members decided to change to Sky because there was a better deal. We changed within a month because for us personally it was terrible. We then switched to Zen, but that Wi-Fi for us personally is just as bad. Could you give me any explanation as to why BT works great for us, but other Wi-Fi’s don’t seem too. Thank you.

Ditch wifi, it's horrible, never use it. Ethernet cable all the way here.

Ok, two things. Firstly, kHz should be a lower case k and a capital H then a lower case z at the end. Secondly, the word SHINE has an H in it, I saw nothing saying what that letter meant.

The video clearly explains where the "H" comes from when showing the acronyms. Can't believe you're nitpicking a video meant solely for helping other people, especially on such a scale of irrelevancy.

That's why I always tell my kids, "Do you want fast internet or Xmas tree and lights" every year. They always choose fast internet LULs. Seriously good info though, I always consider if my router is getting interference from any where in my house.

Is this effecting WIRED and Wi-Fi, or just Wi-Fi? It would help if we had this info because you don't normally say.

Hi @OlderAndy, If you have an instance of REIN / SHINE it wont matter if you are connected via wire or wireless as the service will be effected at point it enters your property and enters your router. I hope that helps. Thanks, Paul
