Thanks for this video! The textures that came with the obj file where png image files but the principle shader with node wrangler was smart enough to assign them correctly.
For whatever reason obj exports refuse to import my mixmap textures (channel packed AO, Rough, and Metal). Do you know if this a limitation of blender's obj importers, or more of a fundamental problem with obj as a whole? love the channel btw, keep it up!
for some reason it worked for my first obj but when i tried applying textures to second one it said: "No matching images found" Yet the texture images are allright and fit well when i tried applying them manually
Thanks so much! I have a website and I use OBJs to upload hats and stuff and before I used an OBJ to Blend file and it would corrupt my OBJ file and the render would not work with the texture and what you did fixed my problem!
Importing an obj from 3ds max, where I work in mm, doesn't convert properly. I make a simple 1000mmx1000mmx1000mm (1mx1mx1m) cube and import into Blender (where units are set to metric and millimetres) and my 1m cube now measures 100mx100mx100m. That's 100 times the size it was in 3ds max. This is in Blender 3.6 and is the same in every other version of Blender as far back as I can recall.
good vid, but i still have a MTL issue. i got a free model that has 7 or 8 material slots, and the names don't match the pngs. when iopen a slot i get nothing but a Principled, no clues at all 😞 given OBJ is one of the most popular formats i can't understand why a proper import/export routine is so hard.
Just tried to import a OBJ using either legacy or new, and my files wont even show up in the import screen. Kinda rage inducing since i have zero clue why not. I even checked the properties to make sure they were OBJ. One is OBJ the other is MTL. and neither will show up.
MTL ?? So The Chinese Spies Are That Close Folks Don't Share This Information Online Nothing Online Can Be Trusted If You Live In America None of This Online Garbage Ever Worked In America
my files arent showing even though i downloaded them i have checked that they are obj and actually saved but they just refuse to show up anyone know how to fix?
make sure to have node wrangler enabled! it's a built in addon a for blender. pressing Ctrl shift T with the principled node selected opens the file manager with node wrangler
@@RetroChug instead of compositing, check under the shaders nodes. That is where you will find how to edit the materials. You might have meant that you are under the shading tab already, if so there is a small "use nodes" box that usually isn't clicked by default
@@BlenderDojo i hav enable addons and check the nodes but still doesnt work, it open file manager but when i select files and click open it doesnt work
it does work but my problem is bro like when I dowanlod the file it stright goes to zip file how I can change file to obj so I can import it to blender I also install Mr achiver software to extract file but it dini't work can you help me to sourt it out
Hi! I'm on windows, and my solution is to right click on the zip file and go to "open in file explorer" then I drag the obj into another non zipped folder. hope this helps!
