I went to a well respected welding school before You Tube was invented. Your videos are better and have been a tremendous help. Thank You and keep up your valuable work.

You are entirely too kind 😀. For me it has helped progressing from a “know nothing, can’t run a bead” to a decently capable welder, mostly on my own (with thousands of hours of research). I fell in every pitfall and failed so many times that it’s easy to explain a few ways that work because I know every way that doesn’t lol. Helping people out is why I do it, because I know the more people I help out the more people might be inspired to build something or better themselves. It’s worth the time and energy I put in 😀

Thanks for the complements and I am thankful I have been able to help you out. It’s important to me to help people out gain knowledge so they too can build cool stuff 😀

Lincoln Excalibur 7018 is probably one of my least favorite rods to start/restart. We just got rid of a few hundred pounds of it at work bc it was junk. The flux looked very porous and would randomly fall of when you welded, or the arc would dance like crazy. Now we are runnin esab atom arc and it’s fantastic. I barely ever stick em and the fire right up for nice restarts. The only down side is that they get hot as a mf halfway through. Nice arc shots as always Greg. Keep the content rollin 💯

The excaliburs I have run fine, but they are atleast 2 years old out of a sealed tin. Makes me wonder what Lincoln is doing with their rods. Almost sounds like they had a issue with the flux. I know Esabs 7018 prime works real good for me and I can get them at the local northern tool (think tractor supply co) without issue. Next time I am at the welding specific store I will grab some atom arcs and try them 😀

Great video . On all position except downhill low hydrogen rods . (15,16,18) its better to start an inch or 2 ahead of the bead to heat it up a little more to get get a better restart . On a downhill low hydrogen you just start without the manipulation or you will get porosity , the other way around . Don't ask me why on the downhill because i don't know why exactley it just behaves that way . All the best

There were some good tips in this episode. I will do some more practice to get better at it. Thanks, Greg, and cheers.

I love 6013, I dont get all the hate on it. Runs so nice and you can get nice strong welds with some practice. Looks the best imo also.

For me I like 6013 but I tend to have rougher starts with it where slag inclusions happen. I can run 7018 or 6010 all day in random positions without any slag inclusions, but I can’t with 6013. It also seems to run better for me on a/c which I don’t commonly run. It’s bad reputation isn’t deserved though. Definitely worth having in the workshop 😀

Homework never sucks to me because I love welding even though I’m not very good at it…😂 But all I have is the Titanium flux 125… But I want to get a nice multi process machine soon.

Everyone was bad at welding at some point, it takes a while to get good at it. Keep your passion for it and get the basics down 100%. You’ll be able to build a ton of stuff. I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but I built a literal tow truck with a harbor freight titanium 125 (Chevy 3500 with a slip in boom in the bed). I had to do a ton of reinforcement and modification but it worked, and is still towing cars. Now the reason I say I shouldn’t tell you that is because it was honestly a job beyond the welders capability but I made it work (and had the skill to do it lol). That little welder you have can do a ton of work, just put the time in to build the skills 😀👍
