These “SSD and HDD worn out” comments are not accurately told. It really depends on how your system is configured and how you use it. Increasing ram just means that the files are resident in RAM, which could cause it to use more power and increase system heat. This COULD potentially harm your laptop or desktop over time, but generally speaking, the impact is negligible. Allocation of RAM does not affect the life of an HDD or SSD directly. HOWEVER, if the computer is performing heavy read & write operations on any storage media, it can shorten the lifespan of the drive due to wear and tear!! So basically, allocating more RAM to After Effects can yield performance improvements, but whether or not it will harm your hard drive depends on many factors. If you arent experiencing any issues, it is generally safe to increase the RAM. So please, do not freak out over this, it has little to no affect on your HDD or SSD, these comments are dramatizing it.

While this may work quite well with an SSD, it'll almost certainly also wear it out faster as it seems likely to use a lot of read/writes, and SSDs have a finite number of read/writes before becoming unreliable.

It's not 12gb *ram*, it's the same 8gb ram + 4gb *virtual* ram (stored on the ssd or hard disk), this feature has been around for decades - it's just become much faster(though still much slower than real ram) with the use of SSDs.

I have 3 drivers, the main (C), another one to photos and videos (D) and a SSD nvme for games (E). Since I installed windows 11, all my games crashed for a virtual memory problem. I have never done anything related with this, so I saw and The own system established none in C and D and 510MB for the games driver (D). I have 16GB of RAM, so how could I do to solve my problem? Loading times are always dependent on the game. The only way most games will probably load faster is with a faster hard drive. There is no magic trick that will make everything load much faster all of a sudden.

virtual memory doesn’t help your gaming performance or fps, it is a process of adding a kind of pseudo-memory to the main memory. It is allocated in the main storage of your system. So, virtual memory can help your system be compatible with some games but doesn’t actually contribute to increasing the performance or FPS.

Well I own a Galaxy Book3 with 8gb ram and I have space for a 2nd nvme drive. My main drive where windows runs from is a 2TB samsung 980 Evo nvme and I have a 256GB samsung nvme not being used, I'm gonna install that one in the laptop and use it only for virtual ram, where I will allocate 24GB to it or even 32. I do software development on it and I have a lot of tabs open, this video is a saviour THanks!

Actually the ram is much faster than the virtual memory, for example: the RAM is the Ferrari, the virtual RAM on an HDD is like a bycicle, and the virtual RAM ON an SSD is like an average motorcycle

It's simple... If you increase the virtual RAM, other components will suffer, such as the SSD for example. And thus the working life of the Disk and other parts will be shortened. Likewise, if you drive a car with 140 horses and chip at 200. The parts in the engine will wear out faster and thus shorten the life of the engine as well as other parts... it would burn out the links on the pistons faster. That's why they put a limit in the engine and if possible faster to go. But then the engine dies even faster after chipping and a certain time 😀. That's why if you plan to use a large virtual ram, boost other components as well... put a new SSD drive, a stronger power supply as well as other parts and there's no problem 👌

hey, thanks before i started i only had 4gb of ram. I wanted to increase so my games would run better on it. And it did increase. Its now 7.29gb. But im not sures its made my game run faster though. I might have to try and increase it again to 16gb if i can, see if that helps

It’s might be your cpu or gpu. Virtual memory is much slower than ram.

@@Simon22145 all it does is put background and other processes in the harddrive or other drives and uses ram to maximise usage of current program while you are not using other programs. And HDD is much slower then ram even SSD is slower then ram, this is why we use ram (it is also volatile)

Thank you for this trick my laptop had installed only 8 GB ram only 7 GB usable i had to update windows 11 which took most of my ram but by watching this video now i know how to increase ram, you must be a computer legend
