Never thought I’d see the day where I would have to pay more money for the hardrive than what I paid for the actual console,That should be criminal in itself
I actually agree with your opinions. Use a SSD or the expansion card if you have the money and a HDD if you want something cheaper or to get more storage for less. Thanks for the video! So much storage options!
I've spent a good portion of my day looking up Xbox series S and series X (because I'm considering an upgrade) and THIS is the most useful video I've seen. I'm an average gamer at best, so ultimate graphics isn't my main deciding factor. This has been a very helpful video in making me decide. Thank you!
Its so Sad tho that they chose a proprietary ssd tho. If It wasnt for that the series S would be hands down the absolute indisputable king of current gen Gaming on a budget
xbox needs a whole 5TB internal storage lmao, with how these games are nowadays, can only download about 4 good games till I'm capped at 1TB, external hard drive ain't worth a shit , can only play xbox games on the internal , whack frfr shit makes me wanna sell my shit and get a PC, then I can't play wit my homies unless its a cross compatible game
I agree with your conclusion on using a Hard Drive as mass storage and transferring when needed! Personally I have a Series S, which only has 512gb internal storage. I ended up getting a 1tb Expansion to store the games that I regularly play, as I play a lot of different Online Games with friends, and the 512gb was just too small to keep them all on. Then I bought an External HDD to store the Series X/S games that aren't on the Internal or Expansion, while also storing my Xbox One and Xbox 360 games to play straight from the drive!
Thanks for the info. I've been shopping around among the Xbox One S, Series S, PS 4/Pro and PS5 Digital. Really leaning towards the Series S with Game Pass Ultimate. Every little ounce of information I can get that's not listed on their 'official product pages' helps =)
@@jamesanthony8438 I’ve had my Xbox Series S since February of this year and have had nothing but fun with it. I bought a barely used one off Facebook Marketplace for $200 and it runs current gen games really good. Get a game pass subscription and you’re good to go. Only thing like other people have mentioned is lack of stoarge, but that can be corrected with a hard drive. Pretty much the only con with the Series S imo
@@brycegum_221 We got the Series S last month after posting this and have been having a lot of fun with the system. Like everyone else, I began complaining about the half terabyte we get with it and managed to budget away enough for the 512 storage card to plug into it. It's finally letting me play the rest of the games I'd been wanting to but hadn't had the space for. =)
Just wanted to drop in and say I've been in the process of buying a Series X this holiday season and twice now I've had a question about something and you've answered it perfectly with separate videos. Appreciate the work you do, keep it up!
Great video. You just show all solutions of expansion storage, then show all the pros and cons of each one which is totally useful for me. I am saving money to buy a Series S soon and this video helps me so much. Thanks for your effort
I use 1tb hard drive and I have no complaints about the speed. It’s still much faster to move my games from one drive to another than it is on Wi-Fi, but if you have a game pass subscription I suggest getting 2tb to test games that may interest you.
First of all thank you for the video very nice and straight to the point. Good work. Now talking about prices: the microsoft seagate expansion card has a ridiculus price it cost $250usd for 1tb!!! and a new console costs the same $250usd... so shame msft.... I also think that the best reasonable solution is to buy an external SSD usb 1tb drive for around $70usd or external HDD usb for around $50usd. The only downside of the external usb drive as you say on the video is that some games like forza and the good ones, cannot be played from the usb drive and you have to move them to the internal xbox storage, but in my opinion is the best easy solution $70 SSD 1tb usb drive. Thank you for the time, effort and again good work!
I think my Xbox S might be fxxked. Got it 3 months, about 2 months ago I bought the Seagate 1TB expansion card that made for the X/S and it didn't work. I talked to Seagate to help troubleshooting and they told me it looks like a card issue and to return it to the seller. We did. Today I bought another one and again it won't work. Won't show up on the Xbox as a storage option. So I'm convinced the issue the whole time is the Xbox.
The tricky thing about transfering files from drive to drive is that you're going to need open space on both the drive and console to swap games around. I think its worth going all out on getting the offical expansion card if you have a large game collection in addition to an external HDD just to make sure you always have space to send a game in one direction or the other, expecially now that we're getting 150+GB games like Jedi Survivor now.
That’s what I was thinking, you kind have to get the official card along with another external to make it work. Although with the new Xbox series S 1tb it won’t be as necessary (I hope) but more of a convenience or “why not anyway” since I think most of us just like to horde games and only play the same few every time lol
honestly they should have had the same as ps5 were you can just swap the internal ssd, m2 ssds are dirt cheap now a 4tb m2 ssds that is much faster than ps5 and xbox sx internal storage is only 200 euros now.
@@iancypes5911 they only let you use specific expension cards sadly. its bad by design unfortunately. If I am wrong feel free to say how as I only know this because a friend of mine needs more storage. a xbox series S comes with just 360GB!!!!!! Or atleast 360GB is the usable part, insane considering it cant even fit 2 large games, or barely. But yeah aft er looking many places their stupid expension card is your 1 option, everything else is software locked, because there is 0 reason why a game wouldnt work on a hdd or ssd vs their expension cards.
was having trouble with this so thank you! annoyed that if you're on the series s you're forced to play the optimised version since you can't just put in the disc for select xbox one games but knowing that I can increase the internal storage via the expansion card is a big help
@@tamimaislam1591 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kwX7MSGZu8E.html Since SATA ssd are way cheaper than m.2 one these days, I got two of those 2TB and formed a raid 0 drive.
Here I am 10 months later and I did not even know that you couldn’t run games off the seagate Xbox external HDD on Xbox series S. It’s horrible that your kinda being forced to upgrade to next gen if you want to play good games. And the next gen system has the such low about of space. They knew what they were doing. They basically took the micro transactions aspect of gaming and scaled it to hardware. If you want to play we give you just enough to get you to spend more money to keep playing. Knowing next gen games will take up so much space they should have planned to accommodate properly. But I’m the sucker because I fell for it. Anyhow thank you so much for posting this video. You answered my questions after searching through so many videos.
definitely external SSD! the transfer speeds are much quicker and nowadays the price difference between HDD and SSD isn't that big. I think the extra few bucks are worth it here. Not worth it for the expansion card which is great but pricey as duck. Thanks for the video and for the effort of comparing the loading speeds on different solutions, I appreciate it.
You can run games from the HDD/SDD despite the "Series S|X" tag; the thing you've got to look at the generation, go to the archive info, and if it says "Durango", you're ready to go; if it says "Scarlet", you have to move the game to the internal storage.
If you have the money, the official Seagate expansion is the way to go. If you don't have the money and don't mind moving things back and forth, a large size SSD or HDD is fine. I keep everything on my SSD and move what I'm playing over to internal drive. The longest game to move was Halo Infinite at 6 minutes followed by Warzone at 5.
how much time does it usually take shifting a 100gb game for eg from ssd to internal or vice versa?...... bec i have a series s & i want some kind of expansion but can't decide which is good
@Gautamabharwal it’s in the video. I compared transfer speeds of different drives. I would get HDD, just any type will be enough. I use it with Xbox and PS5.
@@Gautamabharwal - CoD Warzone took me 5 minutes (with all apps closed so no games or RU-vid or Max open on the Xbox because it transfers/downloads faster with apps closed) to move from Internal to External SSD and that game for me is about 120GB. So that should give you an idea of the time. Remember, you're only using external drives for storage (unless you get the official Xbox Seagate expansion) so don't worry about speeds. You're only going to play what's on your internal Xbox Series drive.
@@stilnoxVisions ok. so just curious. if i am in the middle of a game with some progress. i transfer it to external storage. later when i transfer it back to internal storage & play it, will I lose all then progress?. bec i am playing a few games but I'm bored to I'm planning to transfer them to my external drive & ill play them later
@@Gautamabharwal - correct. Your saves are local to the system and backed up in he Microsoft cloud (ever see that sync message when loading a game sometimes?) so you are free to save game, close game, transfer game. The only time it gets tricky is if you're playing and saving your games offline or playing an Xbox 360 game. I had old Fallout 3 saves load no problem but my old New Vegas saves were lost. Hope this helps!
I have said since the xbox 360 days that game companies need to put their games on USBs. I download all my games on USBs, then use them like discs and label them. Its a way better system than downloading each game for hours.
I got a hard disk drive to back up my game's for £50 and am very happy with it because it suits my needs, but if i was a millionaire i would have the memory card expansion to plug in the back straight away. Good comparison video. 👍
I think you can get a 1TB hdd and a 1TB SSD (if you wanted 2TB) for different game sizes, The HDD is for smaller games, (0.1GB - 79.9GB) While the SSD is for bigger games. (80GB+)
What i do is i have both an external hardrive and a an ssd so i store my none xbox series x games on the external while storing xbox series xbox games on the ssd
I'll stick the external hard drives like the seagate tb game drive desktop hard drive and just transfer games back and forth from hard drive to system on whatever game I wanna play
I use a hard drive and it works well enough. Although If I ever hear that the Xbox special made ssd ever gets a huge sale on black Friday or boxing day. I'll consider getting one. I like the idea that overall it makes your xbox run faster.
@@A_NSF yeah I'd recommend hdd for storage. I find transferring is still fairly slow So I typically just delete and re-download when needed. But if your not playing optimized for X/S games your hardrive works exactly how it did with the xbox one/ps4 Era
i have a series s with two 2TB hard drives and a 1TB expansion card, along with the 512GB internal memory. Having about 1.5TB for XS games and 4TB for xbox one games, i haven’t needed to purchase anymore space for a while and i have 143 games on my xbox
The hard drives are just way to small. I don’t get why they didn’t go with larger M.2 hard drives. With game sizes these days. 5tb should be the starting storage. They worked so hard on shrinking everything. That they left the storage capacities back in 2010.
I had a Series X and a Black Edition 12Tb HDD plugged in. I use the external as my drive for downloading and installing and the Xbox even pops a message up when it detects a “For X/S” title, so it’s the best of both words.
That 6 minute copy of 105gb is appealing. It's on 3 mins slower then the expansion and I can get double space for less the the expansion. I don't mind transfer if it's thay fast....
The ability to install an internal NVMe 4x4 SSD in the PS5 is the reason I'll go with the PS5. Maybe Microsoft will rethink their storage expansion methods in the next Xbox Series X version.
Great video ! Love the info + opinions. I have a Xbox One X + 4TB WD Passport HDD.... My internal and external drives are both about 85% full.... But was looking ahead, (to when I can afford it), lol, at upgrading to the Xbox Series X with a .... 2TB WD Black D30 SSD - Or - An 8TB WD Black D10 HDD ....to store and/or play games, on/off of, and just transfer games that can't be played from the external, to the internal HD when I want to play them. Maybe (but most likely NOt) add an expansion card if the prices go way down in the future. Lol. I'm still waffling on which drive,....price vs size, as well as speed, but I am, Seriously, leaning toward the 8TB D10 and sacrifice the faster speed, for the lower price and the much larger size. Not sure though.... Your thoughts ?...... Keep up the great work.
@@lizwemthethwa8713 You can STORE any Xbox game on an external hard drive. Being able to PLAY them is abit different...... With Xbox Series X, you can't play games that are are exclusively for Series X off of an external hard drive. You have to transfer them to the Series X's internal hard drive or to the expansion card to play them. Some of the Xbox One games that are "Optimized for Series X" , will play from an external hard drive, and some won't. Only way to tell is try, or look it up on the net. So in short.....the only way to be able to play ALL of Xbox's games, on a Series X, is off of it's internal hard drive, and/or the VERY EXPENSIVE Xbox Expansion Card(s). That's why storing games on an external drive, and just transferring the game(s) you want to play to the internal, is the only other option. It's also cheaper, and you get more storage for your money as well.
@@joshkellis6499when transferring games over from your external storage, does Wi-Fi speeds affect the speed at which they transfer or is that purely based on the hard drive that you have? I’ve been wondering about it for a while and it’s a serious factor that I’m taking into consideration since I want to buy myself an external storage unit
@@saal0 I went with the WD Black D10 with 8TB + have had it for awhile. It actually seems faster than the One X's HD, + definitely larger and faster than my little passport. 😅 I'm actually really happy with it. I got mine for $180, a good price to me at the time, best I could find......they have the 12TB model, but the extra cost wasn't worth it to me. I still haven't got the Series X yet, but still plan to. I'm broke n cheap. Lol. I was waiting for the price to drop,.... I'm really surprised it hasn't,....they usually do by now. ???.......+ There aren't as many games out it seems as there usually are for it yet. ??? But when I do get one, I figure I'll get a large SSD card for it as well, if they don't still cost a F'ing fortune. Just wanted to give my experience + opinion on the WD Black D10 8TB...... Also FYI......I have read + heard of a lot of people saying the WD Black HD stays on + runs all the time and can't be shut off..... That is incorrect...... When set up in the console settings..... It will turn on + off when your console is turned on or off. 👍
@@MaxDendy always mate ur amazing can you please do the difference between a 2tb Xbox one S and the other versions I know people would love to hear that. Theirs a gears of war and the regular versions
@andrewpadron1125 Xbox one? That’s an old console at this point, so I’m not that interested in it. I had an Xbox series s and x, but I sold my series s when moved to another country and series x broke down on me due to overheating. So I currently do t have any Xbox consoles. And to be honest man, I don’t know if I should get them. PS5 has been giving me much more fun and I barely use Xbox game pass on my handhelds. So, I think I’m gonna wait until the next generation of Xbox.
I’m getting a series s tomorrow I have a external hard drive I use on my Xbox one that I will use for the series s I might install madden 23 for the series s to internal and the rest will be Xbox one versions or Xbox 360 games plus I don’t see the point in paying the same price as the console for the expansion card I don’t see why they didn’t just let us use the external hard drive for any game like the Xbox one did
Good thing Xbox is releasing a black one with 1TB soon. I haven't got the next gen Xbox yet since I've moved to PlayStation, but I might do it just to check out Starfield if it ends up being well received
0:42 when u say “this badge” are u referring to the X | S or the little 🔁 arrows badge?? Edit: I’m guessing it’s the X | S badge, but dang that’s almost every game
I have 100mbps internet connection so i can download a 100gb game at about 2 and half hours so for me the best option is to get an 2tb hdd drive because it can fit a lot of games and it's transfer speed it's fairly faster compared to my internet connection. For me 18 mins for 100gb transfer is super fast.
I just ordered a Seagate HDD 2TB for $55. Using it for my Series X and my Series S (using the S as a portable gaming system with a portable 4K 120 Hz integrated Gstory monitor). Can't wait
Dang where did u order that at with that cheap and can u play series s and x games from the Seagate card or do u gotta transfer from internal to play them?
1:11 but be warnd. Most HDDS are very slow and not ment to play games from it so its realy best option for saving games and transfer it when you need it but that osts a lot of time so yo actualy can download it every time again and you would be faster in many times
I have a ONE S but it has no slot for an expansion card. Do i have the older version perhaps? Will it run an external HD just as good as whatever version has an expansion slot?
Hey @Max Dandy I came for the storage info but then at the end of the video where you are playing Forza Horizon 5 on a PS5 controller I was hoping you could tell me how? I have a PS5 controller I was using for a pc that has now died. I wanna get a console and I like the idea of Xbox with the game pass etc especially but I hate the Xbox controller so I wanted to know how are you using the ps5 controller on the Xbox and is there any noticeable latency etc? Vibrations still working? Etc
I use 256GB usb sticks on my xbox one x and ps4 pro, which has a specified loading speed of up to 400mb/s. Already much faster than the Internal hard drive, noticeable. Forza horizon 5 loads much quicker. Or a Gran Turismo 7 track/race takes only 19 seconds instead of more than 30
@@Whodini6likesSharpGF well airflow I’m the back is most of the time cool it’s the top that I mainly get any heat from a usb is so small it makes sense why it would get warm
I hear this for the first time. Usually HDDs are indifferent to format. I’ve only seen fake WD HDDs that has a writing on them that they do not support it. Are you sure the HDD and the shop are legit? Do you have a link? You need ntfs to play games.
Console gamers are always looking for affordable vs getting the best performance. What separate Console vs pc gamers. How many games does one play at a given time?
So if you copy games that are optimized for series s/x onto the hard drive and later copy them back onto the internal storage, they'll still play perfectly fine? Because that seems to be the best and cheapest option in my situation
Ive got a 1tb external ssd i got for 90 and the official 512gb seagate. Personally i wouldnt buy an hdd. But for cold storage or for really old games theyre alright. Good bang for buck for alot of space.
I just got a 2tb one touch by seagate and I’m using it to put Roms in it so I can play retroarch on it hopefully add a whole list of games if my laptop lets me
