Camshafts are hands down one of the most popular upgrades for you pushrod Mustang guys. The ability to achieve more horsepower, more torque, and the lopey idle we all know and love.

You can run the n41 with short pin in a 90 mustang gt with a carburetor setup. LMR was not to clear on that. I ran cam with fuel injection on car until I got to chasing idle issues. Then went to carburetor set up and WOW!!! now my car runs stronger by seat of pants and idles perfect.

My 351 Windsor build has been a disaster. i work on it more than I drive it. I have a 1968 XR7 I put a 1969 351 in it after a "pro engine shop built it" So my engine is stock, was not bored, other than rebuilding heads new springs, seals, pressed studs, main, rod bearing etc. its stock. He put a dual plane edelbrock intake, I think its like a 3" high rise. Put comp cam 270- 512 intake, 517 exhaust. It always ran hot and would sputter ever-time i punched it just little bit. Floating valves. I lost all oil pressure, I pulled the engine replaced cam bearings decided to replace cam. I thought I read the specs on new cam, crane. My fought. it had a 272-dur. with a 484 lift both sides. Drove it for about thirty or so miles did great. Shut the engine off cranked it up thought it was fine, then sput, sput. sput if I tried getting into it. Strange enough even with less lift, this cam loped harder than the first. So I googled, read read read. I ordered a new cam, according to what I have read this is the max cam you would want to put in a smaller port factory head small block ford. 255 duration,with 434 intake lift and a 467 exhaust lift. COMP Cams 35-416-3. My round three, So what are your thoughts? Is this cam to much as well? Before I get my engine all back together? edlebrock 600cfm.

Why is it that when I bought a timing chain for my 5.0 Mustang GT I found out that they make two different size timing chains? I had to return 2 sets of timing chains because they wouldn't fit. They were specified for 1988 yet don't fit? What are the two sizes in measurements?

Appreciate the video the most clear I’ve seen thus far. Building my first motor at 17 for my 86 F-150 and I have a question I have yet to find an answer too: install my trick flow stage one cam with a lot of lubricant as described. Was smoothing fitting until I got to the very end of the cam and it required a decent amount of force to fit the cam in. Now that it’s in it won’t turn freely unless I mount a socket to it. Does this mean one of my cam bearings are bad or can I move forward ?

Question about degreeing the cam. Can you finish the build at zero, then set the timing with a timing light later? I understand that most EFI Foxbodies run well at 10-12 degrees BTDC...or do you have to degree the cam before you go further?

@@pagosplace3065 look up the difference. Cam timing usually can only be increased by 4 degrees either way via keyways, unless you have one with a adjustable cam gear. You definitely don't want 12 degees of cam timing.... distributor (ignition timing) is what you are talking about.

Landan - I have a 1986 Ford Mustang that I am installing a 1976 302 in it. I purchased an Edelbrock intake P# 7121 and matching cam and lifters P# 7122 with a new cam chain and gears. Because it is STOCK HEADS I need to install new valve springs and I spoke with Summit and they spec'd out TFS and they said I would need new insert thread rocker studs and roller rockers. This is quite new to me so I was looking for some help with matching up or figuring out the (1) - Roller Rockers (2) Push Rods and what kind of rollers rockers I need to order. IF you can help please do. Thanks in advance.

I am on a budgit however I do want to do this right, if I don't want to go to crazy with the H.P. I just want to be able to have something that sounds great without spending a ton of money on top of what I already have spent

Daniel Mottweiler Since this is such a mild mannered engine, we didn't degree the camshaft. However, for more aggressive combos I would strongly recommend for someone to degree the camshaft. -Landan

Cam thrust plate bolts torque to 100 -110 ft pounds.... what????

It's 120 lb-in. The audio is a little soft at that point. -Landan

What? the short dowel is for fuel injection? No the short dowel is for use with a two piece fuel pump eccentric and the long dowel is for use with a one piece fuel pump eccentric where the dowel also holds the fuel pump eccentric from spinning. So the short dowel is not for fuel injection.

Milner62, You are correct but for time purposes and the fact that we were explaining the set up for an EFI car we did not get into the fuel pump eccentric break down. We would have to do a separate video for a break down of the function of the fuel pump eccentric set ups.

also thrust plate to 120 ft lbs? dude you cant torque that tiny bolt to 120 ft lbs, Every spec Ive seen was around 10ft lbs for the thrust plate which is why you have to use red locktite to keep the bolt from vibrating loose.

Just ruined my camshaft for my 1984 carburetorated 351 Winsor because of this video. You do not use the longer camshaft dowel.

By 351 based, they are implying that the motor was originally a 351. A stroked 351 at 383, 408, 427, etc. is a 351 based engine.

You can see in the video that LMR used the wrong cam dowel pin. Notice how deep into the gear hole the "short" pin is?.....Why is that you ask?...because the short pin is for use with a 2-piece fuel pump eccentric which has to cog into the same hole,only from the front. So....beings how these guys weren't building a carburetor motor, they should have used the long pin...Also for you guys that don't know, the 2-piece eccentric also requires a different timing gear set than was provided for the factory EFI engines...You are welcome.

Bad info on this video. If you use a short dowel with this sprocket it will break off in time. This sprocket needs the long dowel
