Hello. Just to say that the little red wire could be used to power the rear camera using the reverse wire coming from the canbus to the unit. In this case not necessary to connect to the reverse bulb to power the camera. 😉

Would you just expose a bit of the red wire from the canbus by stripping some of the plastic shielding and attach it by wrapping it around?

hey man, thanks for this helpful video. planning to do a similar install with a number plate light camera in the next few weeks. as for the wiring stuff- i’ve read a lot of people recommending ‘delay boxes’ that would appear to change the wiring process a lot. also, it seems that the canbus systems have an easier method of wiring than the way you did it according to others. are you able to shed any light on this? thanks in advance

Thanks, glad you found it helpful :) When it comes to the "delay boxes" and easier canbus wiring, I'm not too knowledgeable on that stuff so I can't shed any light on that unfortunately. ( I'd like to help explain it to you but I don't get it myself and I don't want to give you any false information) sorry.

Hey man, I used one of the same cameras on a car I used to drive. A polo too. Keep it safe from rain, no matter what. I drive through one storm and the next day the camera was toast.

@@RCS_716 maybe laminate it or cover it with some shrinkwrap. That’s what my friend did to his, cause it’s a great camera. It works perfectly fine.

Thanks for this. Again. Found the black blue reverse lamp signal and spliced in, but I’m using a relay to provide clean power to the camera, any idea where there’s a non switch live feed in the rear of the polo? Or will I run one from front fuse panel to rear. Cheers!

@@RCS_716 I ran one from the fuse box under the steering wheel in the end. I advise against using the ground in the reverse lamp for the camera and use a clean one, as the lights generate noise on the camera. Thanks for all your polo videos mate. Helped a lot.

Just a question: Why didn't you retrofit the camera that fits onto the VW boot/latch? Is it more difficult? Is it not available in your country? Is more expensive? Did you just prefer this one? Want to install on my car, but still reading up on forums regarding doing the installation

The boot latch one was more expensive. I still might get it one day but I decided to go for the cheaper one for now. I do think the car looked better without the camera at the back so that is another reason why I'll probably do the boot latch one at some point.

That one is £600, this one is £50. I looked into it, it was 10% of the value of the car. Not worth it.

How did you manage to run the camera wires through the bumper?

I Drilled a hole in the bumper big enough to fit the wires through. At 1:00 I show a rubber grommet, you'll be able to see it from the outside of the car once you remove your bumper/ slightly loosen it. A made a small cut in the rubber grommet and then fed the cables through the rubber grommet so that I could access the cables from inside the boot area. Hope this helped :)

Yes, I screwed it in without predrilling a hole. But I'd recommend drilling a small hole first as it will screw in much easier

Those wires are the cameras power source. Because we connect them to the cars reverse light, the camera will turn on every time you put your car into reverse

@@RCS_716Not good idea. When canbus the easiest way is to power the camera through the head unit using the "reverse" wire (with a 3 pin wago® clip for ex.) which give 12v when we put the reverse gear. Not necessary to power from the reverse lamp and not necessary to put the little black wire from the camera to the ground. The little red wire from the camera should be connected to the the little red wire going to the rear of the car to receive the 12v from the "reverse" wire of the canbus decoder.

Is everything mirrored in non-English cars?

The process will be the same for non English cars, the only thing that might be different is the Taillight wires for left hand/right hand drive Cars So just make sure it's the same when your doing it

You can get one of those reverse cameras that goes where your licence plate light is so you won't have to drill anything as it clips into where the light is. But if you wanted it to look neat and hide all the wires etc you'll probably still need to unclip a few bits of plastic 😅
