Question! Any time when I adjust the position of the lever from the clutch, I notice that the clutch travel gets bigger or smaller. So, when I adjust the lever position, do I have to adjust the ring as well? Thanks
Yes cuz the ring adjusts the tension on the cable that goes into the lever. When you adjust the position of the lever, the tension can change and so you would need to adjust the ring accordingly.
-------------- ----------- Thanks for the vid How To Moto ---------------------- ** note...for those buying the PUIG Brand of these brake or clutch levers....the mounting adapter and the lever come in separate boxes ..NOT assembled together versus what you see in this video. There is a 1/2 inch ish long tiny spring ( found in the black foam center ways near the halfway mark of the sign of the lever in a tiny cut slit..easy to miss) that must be put into the clutch lever at a certain point and you'll be having to be really slow and gentle as you carefully try aligning that spring to fit into the inside " ledge " of the mounting adapter..while holding the brass looking little cylinder that goes inside the mounting adapter...inside it with one finger. Get ready for alitte frustration ...AND for my bike ( cb500x 2019) you will probably prefer to insert some very tiny ( we're talking .0125 inch thick or 0.25 inch thick..unsure) spacer or spacers to ensure when you finally install the clutch or brake lever assembly...that there is no vertical wobble as mine currently has. -_- Seems Puig did not do their 100% due diligence on measuring the thickness/wideness of the mounting adapter for both the brake and clutch lever . ( I have the kind that folds, extends and is adjustable. found here: www.motosport.com/puig-30-clutch-lever-kit?variant[PUI000U]=PUI000U-X001-Y029&variant[PUIA020]=PUIA020-X012-Y002 = clutch lever www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/puig-extendable-foldable-brake-lever-30?sku_id=10029472 = clutch lever which requires ( sold separately at rev zilla ) = >>> www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/puig-brake-lever-mount-honda-2?sku_id=1173065 Hope this helped someone out there. Thank you! I bought levers like these last year when i got my street triple r and was afraid to change anything but my lever same as urs broke after falling and with this video i am able to change the levers
If you haven’t figured it out yet. It might be that on the gsxr you have to pull the clutch in to start it. There might be a sensor or something that isn’t connected. That’s my best guess. Good luck
MenaceToSociety I did! It’s the clutch switch that was being disrupted by the new lever. Had to cut some piece off so now don’t even have to pull in the clutch. Thanks tho
why on gods green earth are you lathering that lever in grease? what the hell dude? completely unnecessary and now youve got people thinking they need grease in order to change out levers. DONT PUT GREASE ON YOUR LEVERS GUYS. THIS DUDE IS ON SOME DRUGS!
Put my new levers on today and broke the damn clutch perch switch sensor 😭 its a small plastic peg that hits the back of the lever. Ordered a new one but it's gonna be days before I ride again smh. Definitely watch out for when installing.
I couldn’t get the bushing out of my old levers even after beating them up using wd-40 etc to try wiggle them out so does anyone happen to know the bushing size?
great video! every other how-to that I've seen on this is shot from like 15 feet away. How did these new levers perform? did you notice a difference from stock?
To be honest, I love the stock levers. The edges on these aftermarket ones are more square and they don't feel as nice, especially when trying to modulate the brakes. The adjustments on these are a gimmick, I have them set to the widest setting and my hands aren't that big. The ones I chose as well are still considered "cheap" ebay levers, so maybe those $200 - $300 (Pazzo, CRG, ASV) ones are actually worth it
How To Moto hey. I had a slider at about 100kmh and my brake lever broke off and got stuck in between fairing. Now my right handlevar can touch the gastank. Is it bent so hard or it just moved out of place and can this be fixed by loosening some bolts and moving it back to position?? Thanks ;) oh, its 600cc supersportsbike
@@blackcarmafia Sorry for the late reply, my suggestion would be to find something straight and hold it next to your handlebar to see if it is bent and then make your decision.
Ok pay close attention! When you install an aftermarket lever you better be careful. It is very easy to not get it right and have a wheel lock up. I have been riding over 50 years and just put some new levers on. The new levers depressed the MC plunger "a few millimeters" too far in the factory setting and resulted in a front wheel lock up in a tight turn and the bike and I went down. The first sign is the engine begins to lug and then the wheel locks. If you make any change to the bike do not assume it will work as advertised. Seriously I had no idea it was coming or that the bike could even do that.
GraeffenKellerHaus Creative Works LLC, Maybe checking it was not doing so before going out would of saved that, and adjust the lever if needed. Make sure there is a small amount of play before the brakes start to function and that the brake lights come on as they should.
I Know this comment is a year old, but I had the same problem when I installed cheapo stock style levers I bought from eBay. Scared the piss out of me! Seriously people be careful!!
@@ragingelefants I'm pretty friggen sure they were volar's!! Install could have totally been my fault, but in all my years of installing levers whether they be cheapo's or quality stuff I've NEVER had that happen to me before. Luckily I wasn't far from home & didn't throw away my old levers.Clutch side was fine & brake went on without a hitch. To this day I'm baffled.. 🤔🤔 Saving up for Asv F3's atm.
@@a.mccullough1461 thanks for getting back to me. Maybe I'll just set mine aside and get something little better. Only paid 23 bucks for mine. Would rather lose that 20 than wreck my bike. Glad your safe and good luck in the future with the ones you purchase :-)
Will this be the same for fitting all bikes ? Such as a Kawasaki z800 levers ? I can't seem to find the spare nob you said comes with the levers. Can I use the old one ?
Depending on where you get the levers from, and which model of bike, it will vary in each situation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using the old one, just clean it and re-grease it.
Can someone please tell me what the red half dial on the brake lever does exactly. I assume it is and adjuster, but is it for firmness, for slack etc?? And more importantly, should I only look for a brake lever that has this adjustment? Thank anyone and everyone in advance
Hi Dan, the red adjuster controls distance from the handle bar, so for larger hands you can move the lever away, and for small hands you can move the lever closer. The silver wheel with the slit cut in it, closer to the cable, is the adjuster for slack. I believe one of the only adjusters that has the ability to control "firmness" is the Brembo RCS, otherwise firmness is determined by how well you bleed the brakes, and what the ratio of master cylinder size to brake piston size you have.
Wow. Super easy. Just bought a new bike and I prefer shorties but was too worried to change them. For break levers, could you also use that old break knob thing instead of using the new one+glue?.
I bought the levers from eBay, I left a link in the description for you. The lever itself is universal, however, the bracket between the lever and the mount is specific to each bike. Always ensure the levers you buy are for your exact bike, some levers are compatible with multiple models but you would have to check the forums or your local mechanic/dealer to see which models.
There could be a number of reasons why this occurs such as a warped disc, a sticky calipre piston etc. I would suggest having a trustworthy mechanic take a look before it gets worse.
My clutch lever came apart while riding, losing all bolts and spacer. I’ve got a new bolt on it that’s functional but the lever feels lose when moving it up (towards sky) and down (towards ground). Is that because I lost the spacer?
idk to much about cameras and shit so might sound dumb but i think might have exposure or some setting to high blows out white color or maybe the focus idk
I bought some after market levers - but they didn’t come with that little knob that goes into the master cylinder for the front break. Does the little knob in the stock break lever come out so I can put it in my after market lever??
Fantastic video my friend. Was wondering do u not have to put that brass ring in the brake lever as you did on the clutch side? Is it not needed my friend?
My broken lever on a new scooter was due to idle being too low. I had to give the bike a lot of gas to get it to roll so it took off like a bat outta hell and lost control and hit a fence. Once I raised the idle the bike would start to go slowly with much less throttle and I was able to control it.
Hi, can I use something else instead of grease? I got no grease and the shops are closed for a while. I have like a spray called A9 racing oils 'all in one spray' kind off lube spray for more than only your chain, bulbs and screws
The saying about eBay/China products is true; to complain about the product is like shooting yourself in the foot. What are you expecting for 20$ levers?! Lol
If you're referring to the pivot pin, that came from the old lever. Otherwise, if by "activation" you mean the pin that goes into the master cylinder, then that came new with the lever :)
How To Moto thanks for your answer! I bought some levers for my bike and the brake one didn’t come with the pin that goes into the master cylinder. I’ll give the manufacturer a call tomorrow
Most levers will be very very similar. The only one I can think of that will be different is the clutch lever if your bike has a hydraulic clutch instead of a cable operated clutch.
I suppose you can, as long as the Vaseline doesn't touch plastic or rubber. I don't know how efficient Vaseline is compared to grease when it comes down to durability or friction, but with something as simple as a lever, it can work. Personally I'd stick with grease.
