Link to firmware update & directions to install NORTH AMERICAN VEHICLE FIRMWARE ONLY!!: drive.google.com/drive/folder... USB Hub that supports Apple carplay OEM: www.mazdaparts.org/mazda-3-sm... Amazon: www.amazon.com/Compatible-201...
DittyPitty, Hello I like your work , BUT People outside of North America are installing the wrong FIRMWARE.. NA N is Only for NORTH AMERICA. YOUR Google link has been copied from my original thread on this subject. The 55 Firmware Cut off ONLY Applies for NA N, what about EU N or 4A N, that cut off is 56.00.100 EU N not 55.00.650 for NA N, these are Not the same Firmware. Please can you either redo or add a Banner over your Video saying for NA N Firmware Only. Your video is causing a lot of grief. Regards ASH8
Awww fwick. Thank you so much for bringing this up to me and I sincerely apologize for any who is outside of North America installing the firmware. I’ll update the description and google drive to let people know. Cheers!
Thank you for doing that pin, I got another this morning installing NA in a EU N car. Also NA N firmware is Half the size of EU or 4A Firmware which takes up to 55 minutes to install, why you must keep touching pedals to keep CMU Alive, if it turns off you will brick it. If you guys want firmware thats not for North America search my user ASH8 you should find my threads. This is not "set and forget" Firmware Updating.
Can I just say, I bought my Mazda 3 Hatchback back home from the dealership this afternoon, thank you so much for this video, most condense, easy to follow tutorial and was a fantastic way forward. I have updated the firmware and all done and worked a treat. The USB Hub Port works and it's fantastic
Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial. After about 3 hours and a few moments of panic (updating firmware takes a minute and your screen will blank out a few times), I got it done. Showing how you did the wiring on the passenger side helped a lot too. Thanks! 🙌
Thanks for the information. Got it done today. The software update was straightforward. No hiccups. The interior part was different as I have a CD player where your interface is, and the interface is in the console. It was probably easier that way. The cupholder part has a hidden screw under the rubber bottom of the cupholder. You then pull it straight up. The console front panel (where the interface box) has 2 screws which are revealed once the center cup-holder part is removed. You then have access to the rear part of the interface, so pressing the 4 clips is possible. I routed the wires on the passenger side a bit like you did. Not much extra wires with this install location.
great video man! I know how expensive the dealership would be and I’ve been wanting apple CarPlay forever. I finally feel confident enough to do it thanks to this!
Thank you so much bro! I have been looking to download cmu NA 74.00.324a for days and some websites were charging $20-$40 to download. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for the most recent software. The technique I used for the old USB/SD module worked great and wasn't destructive: grab 2 packs of those cheap Harbor Freight pick sets ($1-2), using the hooked ones, flip down the SD card flap and hook them into the holes. Pull firmly and steadily on both, and the face plate of the module should pop off. Then, you can access the inner side of all 4 clips. You now want to use the straight pin-like picks to wedge between the clips and the dash hole. Hard to explain, but look at the module in the video and imagine how the clips connect to the dash. With all 4 picks wedged between the clips, the module should pull out by carefully grabbing the edges with needlenose. If you weren't too rough, the faceplate should still have its clips intact, and you can clip it back on to the module/circuit board part.
Mazda3 2017, firmware upgrade worked well! Thank you for the video. It took me days and days trying to get the firmware but without luck until this video. Called the dealership and they wanted CAD 95 plus tax to do this firmware update!! Now that I followed your video and have it upgrade, I ordered the kit from Amazon and will install the hardware this weekend. Total savings 505 - 170!
@@winterMB91 I installed it yes and the installation went well. I don’t have an Android but Apple and the touchscreen on that is working. I got the wireless version of the Kit (from Amazon) and to those who are thinking about the wireless version please save yourself time and money and get wired instead. The wireless is not stable at all. To return it of course I can’t drill holes so I have to disassemble the whole middle console to take the kit out for a return.
Dude that was cool. My local dealer charges 350 euro to do same. I think I'll let them do it. I reckon I'd screw up down loading the firmware..probably download the Lion King or someit. Tx I've watched 10 of these videos and yours is the best. Tx
my local mazda dealer said 500-600 usd :( so i was like lemme watch a vid but I think would mess up too lmao. Imma see if there is a guy who can do it for cheaper.😂
Hello @DittyPitty, I just downloaded the zipped file to update my 55.something CMU. Do I have to unzip the file? If yes, do I have to delete the other files (those that are not .up)? Thanks for your help
Sorry man but I only have the NA download. You can go on mazda3 forums and there’ll be posts about people who have the download you’re looking for and you can ask them for it. I’m not too sure if that is the latest update or not. Good luck!
Thank you for a great tutorial! I have a question. In your OEM link, does that KIT include both the USB Hub and the necessary cables, or just either of those? Thanks!
If my stereo is the base radio for the 2014 I SV trim, then would this even work? Since I don't have firmware to begin with? Would like to install Alpine ilx 507 some time soon. Thanks!
If you got the base radio I don’t believe that infotainment is compatible with Apple CarPlay. If you’re looking to get the alpine ilx 507 then it should already have apple carplay installed. This firmware update is only for stock Mazda infotainment systems. Hope that helps!
I only have to download one file to my usb drive right? From the link I clicked there’s five items. One that I could not open on my computer was the MD5_and_SHA_Checksum file. Just want to make sure I don’t have to download that onto the flash drive as well.
You don’t have to download that file. That file is a program used to scan the update to make sure it’s not corrupted. The only file needed on the USB is the update. Hope all goes well!
Does the "DTC" deletion screen where you type in the numbers work without touch screen / work with only the captain's knob? My screen started ghosting so I disabled the touch capability
Hi there. I,for some reason, don't have a touch screen. Just got the 2016 Mazda 3, so still figuring things out. Anyway, I just completed the upgrade without touchscreen and it worked fine. Select the numbers with the knob and use the enter button on the knob. I couldn't get access to the "Clear" and "exit" buttons, but it still worked without that step.
Hi, Thank you for your video. Does this work on my Mazda 2 2019 as well? Also, does your firmware work in my region? My OS version is 59.00.540 4A N. I just wanna make sure. Thank you for responding! :)
The process would be very similar on your 2019 but the firmware I have will not work for your region. The firmware I have is only for North American Mazdas. Sorry homie
A few of things need mentioning. We need to see in detail how to access the glove box and wiring there. There needs to be more deets on downloading and installing the firmware. There needs to be caveats that that non-OEM versions of AA/CP for Mazda are shit. They may work at best, 6 months then afterwards. they may stop altogether or randomly disconnect or reboot. While the intent of the video is great. A+.
Yea it’ll work! Your USB hub may be in the center console which is a lot easier to swap out for the new USB hub. If the hub is in the same location as mine then it’s a bit harder.
Hi DittyPitty. Thanks for the great video! I have downloaded the file but I don't have the USB hub yet. Can I do it in stages? (Just update the software for now) or should I wait until I get the USB hub? Basically, does everything besides AA & CP work as normal until I get the USB hub?
Thank you! You can update your software and have everything work as normal without needing the usb hub. Once you install the hub that’s when car play will be available. Cheers!
@@DittyPitty1 Wow, thanks for the fast reply!! I'll give it a shot. But first, gotta find a thumb drive that's only 16GB or less!! Gotta be one in one of my old boxes of crap! 🙂
Ok, software update went super smooth! Went from 55.00.753 straight to version 74.00.324a (in case anyone is in the same boat) without a hitch. So far, no changes to speak that I can see, so next step is to get the USB upgrade. Oh and did confirm the version number is correct after upgrade. Thanks!
quick question! I didn't get the usb part does the usb have to be a fat 32 or does the format you download the file have to be fat32 sorry I'm kinda slow.
Great tutorial, thanks! quick question, i wired everything and it worked perfect, but when i hit a bump or even driving the carplay disconnects, i even change the cable and nothing, re wired and it worked for a while but again, any idea?
Thank you! Nothing immediately comes to mind but one of my friends had a similar issue and when they got a higher quality charging cable for their phone it helped a lot.
Hi Dittypitty, do you have any idea why my reinstallation package keeps failing? after i get to the part where its preparing the process i end up with "Validation Failed - Failed to validate the package certificate." Im assuming the file is corrupted but i redownloaded the file 3x now and getting the same result. UPDATE: Downloaded it for the 4th time, but this time i verified the CMU150 file by using the MD5_and_Sha (you dont need this in your USB stick). I dont know if this is the reason why it worked or that the 4th download was the charm, but whatever the update worked. Thanks for the help Dittypitty.
Oh ok, thanks. Do you know if you can disable the system from charging the phone? Also, do you have any issues with it disconnecting randomly or it being very laggy and whatnot?
What about steps 7-10? The installing the fail safe? Did you not do this? You don’t have to? If I have OS 55 does that mean if I install the 74.00.32 update that you have on google drive then it’ll work, even without installing the fail safe?
If you’re located in North America and your firmware is 55.00.650 or above then you can upload the firmware that is in the google drive. I personally skipped steps 7-10 but you can do them if you’d like for ease of mind.
The 74.000.324 update was a delight when I found it here. Only problem is after I updated the software from version 70 to version 74, Android auto is now not fitting properly. Any tips?
Glad I could help you out with the update! I wish I could help you with your issue but I don’t have an android so I’ve never messed with android auto:( sorry I can’t help you out mate! Best of luck.
I have a 2018 Mazda 3 gt in canada but the thing that you drilled out is in my storage box in the middle instead, if I remove it and do the same process is it going to work?
Yes! That location is the best in my opinion cause it’s super easy to replace and the lightning cable is hidden in the box. All you need to do is take out the cup holders and that exposes the tabs that hold the USB hub in place. Push in the tabs in allowing you to remove the usb hub and unplug the wires. Plug the wires in the new usb hub and clip it back in place. Put the cup holders in and it’s done! You don’t have to screw around with drilling out the tabs in that location. Good luck!
I already swapped out the usb hub in my '16 mazda3 MT. It wasn't until afterwards i figured out i needed to update the firmware. Do I need to swap the OEM hub back in or can I use the carplay hub to install the update? Super easy to remove that whole usb hub trim panel from the whole car and then remove the hub the right way if you have a Manual Trans! cannot speak for the auto
You can use that USB hub to update the firmware. I’ll have to look into finding an easier way to remove that hub. I’m sure it’s a very similar set up to the auto trans. Thanks for the info!
@@DittyPitty1 Thanks! the trim removal is probly the same aside from removing the shifter. With the MT, just unscrew the shift knob and that trim panel/shift boot slips up and out easily. The auto is likely a bit more complicated to get the panel over the knob/remove the knob
I've read some reviews saying the cheaper ones crash out of apple car play sometimes based on a few reviews on amazon. But I will admit that my apple car play has crashed a few times along with google maps not functioning properly. Based on my experience they're probably the same USB hub one is just sold cheaper.
You can visit a forum called mazda3revolution.com and some folks on the forum can help you acquire the download needed. There will also be some posts about what you need to do on the forum.
Yes sir if you have v70 then you don’t have to update your firmware. All you need to do is swap out the usb hub that support Apple car play/ android auto and it’ll work!
Yes. If your firmware is v70 or above just swap out the usb hub for one that supports Apple car play then plug your phone in the usb port and Apple car play should come up on its own. You might have to unlock your iPhone first. Same idea for an android phone as well.
I have a link in the description to a google drive folder and it has the firmware. Download it on a flash drive and then follow the steps in the video. Good luck!
Can I ask, If someone were to replace the radio with a new one, (like a Kenwood, etc), I take it you'd lose all kinds of functionality for the vehicle itself?
Yes I’m pretty sure you would lose some functionality. I use the maintenance menu on the stock infotainment for my oil change and tire rotation and that’s why I opted to keep the stock setup. I believe there is a way to install a larger screen but keep the stock software so you don’t lose functionality.
Thanks for the video it works. The only problem is that the import of my contacts no longer works. Yet I disconnected the Bluetooth on the phone and the car and when I reconnected it works except that the import of contacts fails. What can I do ?
Try deleting your phone from the infotainment and do the same on your phone and then reconnect them. Another thing that kept giving me trouble in general was the navigation chip that came with my car. As soon as I took the chip out of the SD slot the infotainment quit restarting and sped up a lot so maybe it’s causing trouble in that area as well. You can also try updating your phone to see if that works. Sorry I don’t have a silver bullet for your situation. Best of luck!
Follow-up question, I have the new USB hub installed before the update. Is that why I can't get it to work? If so, do you have a suggestion for me? I really appreciate it. Thanks man!
That should be good! I believe that’s what software mine was but it’s best to look at some other forums to double check to see if you’re in the clear. Good luck!
Stupid question......Should i uninstall MZD AllInOneTweaks before hand and factory reset ? Or will the install do all that fun stuff Thanks in advance 👍👍
Hi! I think I saw in your video that the screen shows "failsafe" option. I thought it was required to have a failsafe file in the flashdrive. Or maybe it was automatically installed from the .up file?@@DittyPitty1
Yes, there are other tutorials that will show you how to update your firmware to 55 and there should be downloads in the description. There are also forum posts where you can get the necessary downloads and they talk about how they upgraded their firmware.
Did you check to make sure your firmware is above v70.00.xx? You can check this by going to settings->system->about->version info. If it is above version 70 then make sure your USB hub accepts Apple car play and all the wires are plugged in well. Another thing to check is the quality of the charger for your phone. I had a cheap junky charger and bought a thicker higher quality charger and that helped prevent Apple CarPlay from crashing all the time. Hope this helps!
@@aleksandaraleksic4067 Yea there is a bluetooth dongle you can buy that you plug into the usb port. There's also a usb hub that supports wireless applecarplay. I believe its called Mazda-TK78-66-9u0c-Android 11. I haven't done a lot of research about it but i think it only supports wireless carplay. Not wired. Hope this helps.
You’ll die. Jk. If you try to update your firmware to 70.xx.xxx with a current version below 55.00.650 then you’ll end up bricking the infotainment system making it completely useless and you’ll have to buy another. If your firmware is below 55.00.650 then update it to 55.00.650. Then you’ll be able to update it to 70.xx.xxx. If you can’t find version 55.00.650 exactly then one that’s above it will work. Like 59.00.540 or around there. Hopefully that didn’t confuse you more haha. Always do more research on your own though!
Too much interference with BT. But most importantly, this is not a simple process. Uploader lost me after he removed the console. And the updating the firmware? To quote your favorite work AI, that's a major challenge for the most tech savvy people.
