In this video I show you how to install Drop-in-anchors and threaded rod hangers, specially regarding mounting in ceilings, as a ceiling support for piping, false ceilings, HVAC, etc., although it also applies to wall and floor mounting.

I've never seen that double nut technique at the bottom of the rod to make a handle to tighten to rod into the socket, definitely will use that! What a great video taught by someone who knows his stuff! Thank you.

what if you over screw the rod into the drop in anchor? would that cancel out the holding power of the anchor ?

If you overscrew the rod into the drop in anchor the worse thing that can happen, in my opinion, is that you might damage the threads. The holding power would be lost if the setting pin and anchors feet break - something quite improbable - or if the rod gets unscrewed - also quite improbable, unless the thread is damaged (by using excess force).

I have tried setting anchors in snug holes(in concrete) and the pin would not budge past the halfway mark. I have always had to drill a hole one size larger than the anchor's diameter. How did you set it in a snug hole? Is this something you do only for overhead installation or for general installations as well?

Yes, probably if you make the hole a bit larger, you'll probably get a better grip, because the anchor opens up more. However, I'm surprised you say you can't get the pin past half way. The thread you screw into the anchor won't go in more than half an inch, for a 1 1/2" long anchor. When you hit the pin with the setting tool, that's as far as it will go, and the threaded rod will hold it in place.

It happens to me when I use a 6mm thread on the 1/4 inch, it STOPS halfway. When I use a 1/4 inch rod it goes in full way.

Which planet u from? What kind of drop in anchor is that?
@RODsDIY
@RODsDIY 4 года назад
Ha, ha, ha. Search for it in Google, you'll find different designs of drop in anchors, different sizes, but they all have this inner pin that opens the metal that holds the anchors in place. Thanks for your comment Quang Nguyen.

Is the set-in tool mandatory?

De dewalt 1/4 in its instruction shows only a hammer...

If you turn the threaded rod enough it should open the legs to engage, but it surely is harder than using the setting tool.

Thanks, I'll do that. Of course, you can also turn on the subtitles (my own, not RU-vid's stupid autocaptions).

Get the proper size drill or a new one! Inserts should not require that much effort to put in.

It is the proper size drill bit, but thanks for your comment.
