Thank you for this video. I needed to buy a dryer but had no 220V outlet, forcing me to go with a gas model. When the delivery/installers arrived they would not complete the installation because I did not have a shutoff valve. After watching your video I am happy to report I installed it myself and did not blow up the neighborhood.
This young lady actually did a pretty good job here. Yes her channellock pliers were used backwards taking off the pipe cap but she got the pliers correct when putting the valve on. A tip though is to always use a crescent wrench onto the valve so you don't scar it up. Use your channellocks on pipes only and crescent wrench on brass fittings with "flats" that are made for that purpose. Also It is not a FLIP valve. Look at the package. It is FIP as in Female Internal Pipe thread.
Awesome job very informative! If I may add just for future purposes those channel locks need to be opened to properly fit the fitting(s) thus giving you better grip! Have a good one!
And also the channel locks where backwards you need to have the mouth (teeth) of the tool counter clock wise when loosening and clock wise when tightening.
You did an excellent job there young lady. If I may make just one suggestion: try and use an adjustable wrench instead of arc joint pliers. Arc joints are great but a proper wrench on fittings that have flats will make the job go much easier - easier on your hands and less likely to slip on the fitting an chew up the metal. I speak from years of experience. Again, you do excellent work.
Where did you purchase that earthquake survival tool?, I'm in the process of installing a 3/4 Gas Ball Valve for my kitchen stove. Also I just subscribe to your channel go information 👍
instead of using channel locks to remove the cap use a pipe wrench. faster and sure grip. Also instead of using yellow teflon tape only if u use the yellow teflon tape then put pipe dope on as well u will have a fitting that will garauntee never to leak. for leak detection Hercules Mega bubble leak detector is the best leak detector it will detect the smallest of leaks.
The fist wrench you used was actually channel lock pliers. There is a right way and a wrong way to use them you actually had them backwards. The top jaw should always pull instead of push in the direction you are trying to turn. That may not explain it well, but if you do it right they get a much greater grip. Thanks for helping others and I hope this helps you.
Use a real pipe wrench, alternatively use vice grips because not every valve will be accessible with a socket wrench and that’s not technically correct usage because it’s not a universal tip.
