In this video I install a brass gas ball valve to ease turning on and off the gas at the propane clothes dryer. I also install a BrassCraft universal gas line and adapters between the new valve and the dryer.

Installing a Gas Ball Valve requires to follow step by step safety instructions. You made it happen very well by providing detail procedure how to do it. Congratulations! Great way of teaching and helping others!

Defining MIP for everyone is very important, nicely done. That and no pipe sealant on flare connections and you present in a way that keeps people watching and hear the safety precautions without harping. This Old House should take lessons from you, keep up the good work!

Not a lot of wiggle room in that corner 😳 No gas leaks wanted 😬 I am on a slab and can't have gas, and sometimes I really miss having gas. Very handy information 🐾🦊🐺🐾

You can also use dish soap and water in a spray bottle to check for leaks
@garyblack8717

Yeah, I kind of thought maybe that "leak detect" would do something cool like change colors or something. Soapy water has to be a lot cheaper than that tiny bottle.

Thanks for the video. Quick question: Replacing a dryer here. I already have a brasscraft safety valve installed on my iron pipe (has ball valve upstream) from my previous dryer. Can I undo the hose from the safety valve and just use the new yellow hose with new fittings on the new dryer, or should I undo the safety valve and replace that as well?

So if I keep having trouble with my meter the screen keeps going off and any money is lost Can I get some gas flexible pipe turn the gas off Undo the pipe bolt then add the new flex pipe to the other pipe that feeds the boiler I’ll use all the seal stuff then turn the switch on again so all is flowing
@dntlss

Hello there, i am installing a new flexible gas line just like the one you have here that came with that safety gas valve , my question is... in my setup i have my gas shutoff valve,then i have a very small nipple and a elbow that goes upwards,i would very much like to keep this setup because it works well for me but i see people installing this safety gas valve right next to' the shutoff valve, im not sure how the little nipple i have and the elbow pointing upwards would hurt anything but i figured i would ask, all I'm doing is extending the distance by maybe 4 inches (elbow and nipple) between the gas shutoff valve and my new safety valve, you think this will be OK? thank you for your time.

Its fine. It is called an excess flow valve . Efv . As long as it installed in the proper direction. It will work on any part of the line :)

Very informative video as always. Why were you having to install a new gas ball valve? Pretty frightening to know that they installers who should know what they are doing and don't do it properly. This is absolutely not a job for someone not sure of what they are doing.
@TheEclecticHandyman
@TheEclecticHandyman 3 года назад
Yeah so the gas line had to be removed when the new floor was installed to move the dryer. In hindsight, the floor people never should have removed the line as they aren't plumbers. I put all this in once everything was done. Thanks for watching!

At 13:30 you mention what connections need pipe sealant. Although you used sealant on the correct threads, your explanation is not correct. The fitting you show is a flare fitting, and is Not a tapered thread and does not seal at the threads. That smooth angled flat surface is the male side of the flare. the threads are straignt, not tapered. The threads on a flare fitting are there only to compress the flared surfaces together and that is what seals, not the threads. The other connections you made are tapered (NPT) fittings. the threads jamb together when tightened and the seal takes place in the thread when they jamb . you want pipe sealant on those threads because thread seals tend to not seal perfectly on their own.

dont buy the gas leak detection solution, use soap and water same shit, i paid $8.50 for 2 ounces, so thats 128 ounces in a gallon so a gallon would be $544.00

I would have put nipple into the valve first. IMO
@richardpressman5802

Why didn't you just take the handle off when tightening the valve? Would have made things much easier and not risk damaging the valve.
