Thanks Stuart for watching and commenting. It's a faily easy install...just takes a bit of time from start to finish. I appreciate your continued support. ✌️👊👍
Can ya do a video on how hot the heated grips get from the lowest to the highest setting? Not sure how you would do that. Maybe lay a thermometer on the grip? Just a suggestion. Thanks.
Thanks Scott for watching and for the suggestion. I'll will think about that. They have a heat setting range from 1 to 6. The highest I have ever put mine to is 3...and that is while wearing leather gloves. Any higher than three would be way too hot. After getting off the bike with grips on, they are very warm to touch for some time to the bare hand. 👊✌️👍
Having heated grips is a game changer for riding in cold temps. I got spoiled by having Kahuna Heated Grips on the CVO, so I decided it was time to install a set of Harley Heated Grips on the Road Glide Special. Thank you very much for the video Rick; I was shocked at how long and how much the dealer wanted to install the grips even though I already have heated grips. Definitely subscribed and will follow you! Great video!
Thanks Ray for watching, commenting and subscribing. Its not a difficult install at all. Glad this video can help you save some money. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍

Thanks again Rick, the pages if instructions had me saying WTH... Your video once again cleared it up. Hey I'm putting a 132 on my RG where's that video😅
I agree...once I had the opportunity to use heated grips on the CVO, I don't think I'll go without them on any future bikes. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊✌️
Subscribed! Thanks for the video. I used it to install the same grips on my '23 Road Glide. Crazy they charge 3 hours for this. I don't think I had 3 hours in it scrounging for tools, fighting a bit pulling the cables back through and connecting the plug on the throttle side.
Thanks Rob for watching, commenting, and subscribing. I put these videos out to help others and hopefully save viewers from having to take a bike in for these fairly easy installations. I look forward to seeing your comments on other and future videos. Ride safe and enjoy. ✌️👊👍
Thanks for watching and commenting. I did not pull the main fuse, but it is definitely a good precaution to take. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍

Cool video I didn’t realize only left grip had wire while right one had a plug. Nice addition for sure for spring and fall riding. Ride safe brother ✌️✔️
Thanks Art for checking this out. This would be a nice addition for your RKS as well. I believe all the connections are in the headlight housing. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊👍✌️
Thanks for watching and commenting. It should be in there. If you have any other powered accessories that may have been hooked up previously, it could be being used...but if not, then it should be in there. I hope you find it. 👊✌️👍
I have a 10 RG and I hope it is not a lot different than the one you did here because I am going to have to R&R my heated grips tomorrow. Mine are about 13 years old now and while they still work great, their age shows! The Harley brand heated grips are the boss. I truly believe in that MOCO branded product. Good video! I even subscribed! Get out and ride because life is not for waiting to die!!
Thank you for watching, commenting and subscribing. I look forward to seeing your comments on other and future videos. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👍👊
The heated grips are nice. I find I use them more than I would have though. Definitely a nice addition for the cold weather rides. I'll be using them this morning on my ride into work. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊✌️
I did this following this video , the connection you used is meant for lighting accessories and it brought in my engine management light and fault codes , the cambia doesn’t like it so had to change to wiring to and adding accessories harness under right side panel , did yours not do this ?
Thanks for watching and commenting. The connection I used created no codes or other issues. This is the same connection that is used on bikes that have stock heated grips. If you are already a subscriber thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for the support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Hi guys, great video man! Love the detail! So my issue is I have the Avon heated grips and a 18 Roadglide Ultra, everything is exactly how it is in your video other than I don't seem to have the "dummy" connection that tells the throttle side to heat? Do I peal back the casing perhaps? Thanks for any info
Thanks for watching and commenting. The plug should be in there somewhere. It maybe buried under other wiring or as you mention, slid back into a casing. Keep searching and hopefully you will fins it. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👍👊
yeah ive been checking some forums and i think the 18 didnt have it, looking to rob the power from somewhere up front and i was wrong i have the original harley grips that are made to go thru the handle bars too, but in Harleys wisdom (as usual) no power connection. I will keep looking though.@@HDVIBEcorrection i have the black and white staring at me, dont have the other 😪
@TheDags75 I know there is a harness you can get that hooks up to the battery. I've put them on pre M8 model's as well and the connection was there. Good luck. 👊👍✌️
That is a great question. It's obvious that a harness is not needed. The only reason I could see is if you had something else powered off that plug then you may need to run the accessories harness. Thanks for watching. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊✌️👍
Video was great. Anyone have any tips for locating the black and white female plug on a 2023 RG Special? Can’t find it anywhere, even took bars off and looked under riser.
Thanks for watching and for the kind comment. I would be surprised that the black and white connection is not there. Obviously, it is on my 2021 Road Glide Special....it was also on my 2023 Street Glide ST. Maybe it got wrapped into one of the other harnesses in that area and isn't visible.
How many hours did it take you to put in the plug on the right side? I can not get it in. Bouncing around blind trying to get the prongs in. I see now why you did this part off camera.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It took about 5 minutes or so to get it lined up and pressed in. Patience is definitely needed for this part of the installation. Thanks Erik for watching and commenting. You do not need any grip glue with these grips. They lock in at the switch packs. Once the 4 screws are tightened down, the grips are secure. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👍✌️👊
Great video. The only thing I worry about, is the circuit protection on that harness you used. Heated grips will pull more amps than an accessory light circuit, which is supposedly what that harness is for. This may be the reason Harley tells us to purchase the harness with these heated grips. I’ve installed them the way you instructed and they work. But, I may go ahead and utilize the harness I purchased per the instructions just to be safe.
Thanks James for watching and commenting. I do not believe you would have any problem connecting as I did in the video. Harley techs connect heated grips the say way and if you have stock heated grips from the factory the same connector is utilized. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
If I might add Rick. That acc fuse is a 5 Amp. The draw at 6 on the dial is only 3.3 amps. Maybe I'll shoot a video showing that range. The on board fuse should be fine. All my grips I ran on 2-3.
Thanks for checking it out. Heated grips are definitely a game changer. Never thought I'd have heated grips but the CVO spoiled me. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊👍✌️
I've got a 22 Street Glide and I have a set of the Airflow heated grips to install. I noticed that you didn't do any underseat wiring, and my fitment guide said it requires that. Is there a Harley kit that doesn't require an external power connection?
Thanks for watching and commenting. More than likely you will not need an additional harness that wires up under the seat. I also installed a set on a 2023 Street Glide ST. No additional harness needed. I did a video on that one as well so you can see exactly where the power and cross over wiring is located in the fairing. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
Working on a 2016 RG Ultra and I've pulled the speedometer forward. I found the black and white connector but unable to find the purple and black wire connector. Except for the exhaust, the bike is purely stock.
It should be in there. Sometimes they get buried and they are hard to find. All I can offer is to keep digging around in there and hopefully, you will find it.
If you install the grips as I show in the video you do not need to remove the tank. I believe in the instructions they call for another harness to be installed which would run from the battery and under the tank. This is not necessary if you use the power source as shown in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
@@HDVIBE it's an ultra, I know yours is a special. According to Harley mine requires another harness, which I have. Just trying to figure out how to wire it in. The Harley instructions suck.
@RoadGlideAndy Got it. Another viewer just mentioned he installed the harness on his Road Glide Ultra. I believe he mentioned it plugged in to a connection under the the left side cover.
Question for you I noticed my black and white wired plug is connecting the black to the white and white to black on the plug I only ask because this is a replacement set I had problems and they gave me a new set. Was yours the same did you notice?
First of all...thanks fir watching. To answer your question...I don't recall the cross of the colors on the wires between the plugs...but I can't say that with 100% certainty. In general my experience is the wire colors match from plug to plug.
Seeing in the description that 17 and later touring models require the connection kit 69201599A. I don’t see that in your video. Did you need that? I have a 2020 Road Glide.
I did not need the noted harness in the instructions. All the connections are under the gauge cluster as shown in the video. I'm not sure why the instructions note needed the extra harness. My only thought is the harness would be needed if you are using the powered plug under the cluster for some other powered accessories. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
I had them do the grips when they did the 12" bars on my '20 Trike. My grips are on in Acc and Ign. Did the dealer use the wrong connector? Haven't opened the fairing up yet to check color codes. I was thinking about adding a relay powered by the Ign. tap so the grips would only be on with the bike running. If I can find a Ign. only plug. Made the mistake of checking the GPS on the side of the road with the bike in Acc. and the grips on. Wakes ya up fast when you grab the grips with no gloves on even set at 3.
Thanks for watching and commenting. To be honest, I'm not sure if mine heat while in Acc. Mode. I always turn them off just before shutting the bike down or right after shutting it down. I will also only turn them on when the bike is running so all the power is going to the starter to crank the bike over. If the dealer installed them, my guess is they used the same plugs I showed in the video. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Like you, I've never put mine above the setting 3...they are hot even with gloves on. I typically turn it to 3, the go back to 2 or 1 as I'm riding a bit.
@@HDVIBE I just tore into the wiring. Apparently around '18 HD requires power to come from the Acc. plug under the right side cover along with an extra 3 wire harness goes under the tank to the plug. You have to splice another harness to the plug that goes directly to the battery. When the key is on there is power available in Acc or Ign. I'm gonna add a relay so it's only powered with the key set for Ign. BTW the heated grip plug is still there under the fairing. HD just thought lets make it harder and cost more.
Thanks for watching and commenting. No harness necessary as I show in the video. The only need for the power harness is if you have another accessory plugged into the heated grip power source shown in the video. Thanks for your support. 👍👊✌️
I used trimmer line that is use on a lawn weed Wacker. It works perfectly. Just make sure to securely tape the wiring from the grips to it and you will be set. Thanks for watching. Thanks Mark for watching and commenting. The process is very similar, but the location of the connections is different. I also have a video on how to install heated grips on a batwing fairing bike. Go to the 2023 Street Glide ST Playlist or just go back a few weeks, and you will find the step by step video. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. Just bought the roadglide 2022. Did you notice the fairing is crooked ??. The line beneathe the large navigation display slopes to the right and down. Checked all the other nee roadg"s. Same issue. Paid a lot of money for a bike with a crooked fairing!! Very irritated and not enjoying the experience.
I tried to get the trimmer line through my 14 inch bars with no luck. Did you tape the ends of the grip to the trimmer wire and feed both through at the same time? I simply tried the trimmer line on its own but it keeps coiling and getting obstructed by the black harness already running through my bars. Any tips?
Mine were going through the stock bars and had no problem. I would suggest taping the connectors to the trimmer line a bit offset so you can get bend in between the connectors as it moves through the bars. I did put these grips on a friend's bike with some 14 inch bars and it was a bit more challenging. We actually used two lengths of trimmer line to feed the two connectors through even more offset. It was tricky but we got it through. Also make sure to use duck tape on the very end of the connector to the trimmer line to get a stronger bond so you can pull a bit harder without the tape slipping off. Hopefully these suggestions will help you out. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so.
