How to install HomeBrew Menu on Nintendo Switch + JoyCon Tin Foil Trick 1.0.0-5.1.0 firmware RCM

Thanks, the tin foil trick worked perfectly right away! For those struggling: it helps if you haven't clipped your nails for a while and to have a needle at hand. And a piece of tape really helps for the tin foil strip to stay in place. FW 9.0.0, launched Hekate just fine. EDIT: Turns out there is a caveat: Joy-Con keeps switching between handheld and wireless modes. Luckily, I have an extra pair of Joy-Cons, so it's not that big of an issue. I will have to buy a proper jig if I even want to launch CFW outside of my house. There's another "problem": why did I do this? I was bored. What did I gain? Ability to run homebrew, half of which seem to be abandoned already, another half is in a very beta state, with most being useless either by design or by current state of development. So, let's face it, unless you are an enthusiast, you'd only want to hack Nintendo Switch to pirate games. I guess I mainly did it for emulators. Too bad emulators for Switch don't bring that many new platforms compared to 3DS ones, and I find 3DS to be more comfortable to play GB(C/A)/(S)NES/SEGA games. I wish there were emulators up to GameCube, or at least N64, but I don't think the hardware is powerful enough.

Thanks for the detailed guide. Everything worked well. Even the paper foil trick was very easy to use. If people are having trouble with the paper foil, take a zoomed in picture with your phone of the foil touching the pins, to make sure is only touching 9 & 10, if is touching more pins, cut the foil with a scissor, and adjust foil with a small slim object.

Hello everyone, just as a heads up, the tinfoil works perfectly but in my case it ever so slightly enlarges the joycon rail. The joycon now moves around a little when docked to the switch. Nothing huge but very annoying once you notice. I'm still under warranty and will try my luck exchanging it for a new unit but be careful, the tinfoil must not be very thick. If it shows more than a minimal resistance when sliding in the joyconn, better start over and make a thinner foil. Or use a printed jig, safest option in my opinion.

I think that it's fine if the custom firmware implodes every time you do a complete shutdown. If nintendo does online checks you might get screwed and it's easier to restart your console for when you want to go online. Wish the installation process was faster though.

The joycon charges, but doesn't get recognized by the console with the tinfoil. Does this happen for you, or no? edit: it was a little too thick. it still happens sometimes, and sometimes i have to wiggle it a bit, but it's now fully recognized and gets me into rcm everytime. thank you so much!

Also, it should be noted any ground pin can be shorted to 10. Not just 9 and 10. The jig uses 7 and 10. Paperclips use 1 and 10 or 2 and 10

I’m gonna have wait until the CFW is a permanent thing. Shorting pins is too much of a risk for a temporary thing

The tinfoil worked! Keep at it, and you will eventually get it to 1mm long.. Easily the hardest part of the process. I also recommend that you avoid using the tape. Tape makes securing it much harder. Just keep it angled correctly.

DISCLAIMER: A lot of the homebrew are finicky when booting or straight up do not work. The current hombrew apps were built for 3.0.0 so dont expect consistent results.

sorry but how tf did you do that to the tinfoil. ive been trying an hour. at least slow it down and show us, nvm i gave up. using the paperclip method now. my hands are too shakey aaaaand we dont have paper clips , been trying the wire solution. still nothing it just wont go to recovery mode, and i cant get a jig, fml

Absolutely will not boot into recovery. If I touch Volume Up+Power button for even a half a second, it immediately jumps to the Nintendo logo and starts powering on, faster than I've ever seen it turn on before. Sure what's going on here. Using an OG switch with the original oldest serial numbers.

Dude, all you have to do is solder the 9 and 10 pins together after taking the right Joy con apart a the base of the pins and you can have a permanent hack for homebrew on the switch. If you start it it normally, it will run as not modded but if you start it with the up volume and power pressed, it goes into hack mode.No 3d printer needed and no wires or bending pins.

i can boot successfuly into the rcm. but when i hit launch firmware > and cfw, my switch boots without errorcode. but when i click on the photos icon there is the normaly pics stuff. anyone an idea?

At 6:54 when I press OK my switch screen remains black and the CFW startup doesn't show and it's in RCM. Do you REQUIRE an OTG adapter or can I just simply connect my phone to my switch with a USB C to USB C cable?

Would you recommend hacking it now or should i wait couple of months then do it?

This was not made by Reswitched. This is just a version of hekate booting a barebones version of Atmosphere (which is by ReSwitched but mostly SciresM) which redirects the Album code to hbmenu on your SD card.
