Follow along & learn with me as I install the Hunterworks Secondary Roller Kit in my 2017 Polaris General from start to finish. Also, I show you how to make a simple compression tool for about $2.
The entire process was incredibly easy and it resulted in much smoother takeoffs. WELL worth the time and small investment!
If I can do it, you can do it!

You are either very intuitive or you have had some Polaris training :) very few notice the X or Alcoa markings on the clutch components, and yes, the need to be aligned. Btw, the names you are looking for are "fixed" and "moveable" sheeves. Impressive wrenchin skills! And a a great how to video. Thanks

I have to do this very project. Between your video and Hunterwork's, I think I got this. Thanks!

Nice job, maybe even I can now. Pretty good ingenuity with the clutch compressor.

You have great videos and all the right tools . How did you learn to wrench so well , your father or are you sell taught ? Your impressive!
@EndlessDIY
@EndlessDIY 2 года назад
Thanks, Greg! I was never taught but I grew up with a dad who could fix anything (or at least it seemed that way). It just never occurred to me that people couldn't just fix stuff; I just figured that's what people did. With my tool collection & my "if someone built it, why can't I?" attitude I just let loose on anything! It can't get _more_ broke, right? 😉 Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!

I just installed the Gilomen ECU flash and clutch kit on my general. It has made this machine an absolute Beast. You did a great job , I used the same clutch compressor for mine. Do you do brakes on your own vehicles also ? Oil changes too ?

Thanks! I've read good things about clutch and tuner tweaks. Maybe someday in the future, I'll give that a whirl. Yep! I do the brakes, oil, engine rebuilds, body, paint, electrical, etc on all my vehicles & motorcycles. I'm in the process of building a '72 Datsun 510 2 Door right now. It's taking every skill in my arsenal! lol!

Great job, thinking on getting a new general , just frustrating that we need to spend more money on aftermarket parts to make the clutches more durable , also did you get them from hunterworks ? and did you try their drive belt .

I couldn't agree more. I absolutely love my General but it IS frustrating when things are essentially built broken. A simple change like this makes such a difference and it really should be the way they come stock. I've read someone had a conversation with Polaris about it and they told him they are aware of the problem with the square pucks but have no intention on change them. Of course, that's hearsay, so who knows. I did buy the rollers from Hunterworks. I just wanted to make sure I got the real deal as I know there are other types out there. They shipped them immediately and I got them quickly. As for the belt, I run an OEM one right now, but I'm going to pick up a Hunterworks when I need to replace it. They are highly reviewed and based on how helpful the owner is to the UTV community, they've earned a shot at least. Thanks for watching & good luck with your new General, I hope you love it! :)

How many miles did you have on your secondary clutch before you put the new round rollers in?
@EndlessDIY

Hi Bill, I had about 1500 miles or so on it.

Was there a snap ring on the general secondary? Or is that just rare models

What is the black tool you used to separate the plates? How did you know to do that and where did the tool come from? Are you basically just spinning the clutches to reseat them?
@EndlessDIY
@EndlessDIY 2 года назад
Hi there! The black tool is the belt tool that comes in your stock tool kit. If you haven't got one they do sell aftermarket belt tools. Many people say the aftermarket ones are way better anyway but my stocker is just fine so either way. You need to spread the sheaves (I think they're called?) to get the belt down inside far enough toward the shaft to get it on all the way. Once the belt was in place and everything was tightened/torqued, I started the machine and gave it a visual check/listen then shut it down & finished the assembly. The whole process was surprisingly simple. Hope that helps!

did you notice any difference after you installed the rollers and how is your rig holding up
@EndlessDIY

When I start slowly from a stop it’s definitely smoother. It used to kind of hop forward. It’s still all good so I think the rollers are a worthwhile mod.
