Outstanding Video. I was getting frustrated locking them together, breaking tabs, slight openings between planks, but just using wrong technique by not tipping them to click together and the scrap board worked very well. Good news is I know how to do it, the bad news is I have to pull up all the planks to lock them in fully.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 7 месяцев назад
Ahh . I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes, you can use the scrap piece method, and if you hit it just hard enough, it will close up several rows of gaps. But if you don't close up gaps completely, then your next planks will start to teeter up and down on both sides. Making it easy to lock one side in, but it's hard to get the other side to go. Good luck with your project, and thanks for the comment

Thanks for the video. I found Alpine Backwoods Oak Multi-width at Home Depot it says it's 6.5 mm thick and a 6 mil wear layer for $3.39 sq/ft with a limited lifetime residential warranty. I like the 3 different size boards and multi-color board look but is the 6 mil just to small or do they do something special to their wear layer that makes them more scratch resistance than say a 12 mil layer? Also I thought about buying 2 different finishes from the same product line so I can have more different looking boards so they don't repeat. Is this a good idea? I thought about combining Alpine Backwoods Oak and Distressed Wood together to do my floor. Also do you know if the latching system on the Home Depot line Woodland and Heritage are any good?

Generally speaking most manufacturers require you to leave a quarter of an inch expansion gap around the entire perimeter, that includes inside closet and around walls and in corners front and on the side. Hope that helps thanks for the question!

Hi, we’re thinking about using this floor in our house. When, if ever do you need to use transitions? Thank you 😊
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 года назад
I try not to use transitions. And this would depend on how you feel about your warranty. Definitely read manufacturer recommendation.It may say to put one over a certain span but I have installed plenty of this stuff and as long as you keep all the rooms the same temperature In The the house and you leave a decent expansion gap there's really no need to put one. I've never recieved a call back because I didn't install a transition. You should be fine. Thanks for the question

Avanti Morocha I would recommend Nucore over Lifeproof. Nucore has a 22mil wear layer vs a 6mil on Lifeproof. Commercial is around 30mil. I believe industry recommendation for residential is between 8-12mil. Keep in mind that mil is top wear layer while millimeter is actual thickness of plank. You can find Nucore at Floor and Decor. Don’t just buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s without looking at other places like Floor and Decor. You’d be very surprised what’s out there and the low quality that’s at these big box stores. Lifeproof doesn’t advertise how low the mil wear layer is but you can find it online on the Home Depot website under product specifications. Hope this helps you make the right decisions for you. Both Nucore and Lifeproof are about the same price but the wear difference is quite significant.

Thank for the tips! Do all four sides lock in or is there a side that just fit together without locking. Like before you cut a piece is the locking mechanism on all four sides. Also about how thick are these boards.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Well on the long side you have to kinda tip them up to lock them in but on the end it is a different locking system. The ends don't have to be tilted up. They straight down. And the material seems to be about a quarter inch thick. The description says 6.5 millimeter. So whatever that converts to. Thanks for the question

Great video. Do you know if the vinyl plank flooring need a vapor barrier for a cement basement floor?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
The direction do not say to put anything underneath. However online the installation recommends to put a vapor barrier. I would just be careful with that because if you don't get it rolled out completely flat, the plastic may crinkle when walked on And make a little noise. If you would rather not use plastic for that reason you could you a liquid roll on water shield like in shower pans. The lvp should stand up to the elements but if you are in a high moisture area, probably wouldn't hurt just keep out mold. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Hi, thank you so much for your great, helpful video~!! My dad and I are trying to install these, and we're halfway through... but my dad made a lot of thin hairline gaps between the planks. Does that mean they weren't locked in correctly? Should we do it all over again? I'd deeply appreciate your help..
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 года назад
If you have some cracks you can try taking a mallet and smacking the planks on the face at an angle from top to bottom. This will work if the are cracks on the side to. If you can't get them to close up. Then use a longer scrap piece to lock in for a tapping block . Then all the way acrossed start tapping it back. A bunch. See if the force is enuff to close up gaps farther back. If that does t work you may have to take it a part and lock them in right. Good thing is they uninstall as easy as they install. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

How do you take this flooring apart ? New to remove two rows to get to a soft spot where two pieces of sub floor meet that we forgot to raise up the one side. We a talking about an 1/8" for about a 1-1/2', it's in a moderate traffic are and will eventually print through to the surface of the plank floor.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Yeah hopefully it's not in the middle. But you basically work backwards from the way it was installed.cut your caulk line. Removed 1/4 round and started pulling planks back till you reach the spot. Unfortunately I have not found a way to take a section out of the middle. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

You can set things like frig and stove on it but not things that are going to stop it from moving. Lvp doesn't expand and contract like wood and laminate. But the wood I. Your house does so it's best to floor around cabinets and vanities. Thanks for the question

Great video. We just finished doing our first life proof install in a bedroom and are trying to avoid transitions. However, I’m realizing that I may have to click in planks in the reverse order by nature of how a room or hallway opens up on both sides of my new row of planks as I run my planks out into a new room. Is this possible? How do you deal with this situation?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
It can be done. You will have yo work backwards. I always do my doorways in 2 pieces if the next row runs around the wall into both rooms. Lifeproof can be a pain to install backwards under door jambs. But it's fairly easy in the open. I would definitely slide a scrap piece under the planks and another scrap piece to tap it in. It's up to you but here's a couple videos I made that might help. One is older bit shows what I just explained the other is installing laminate though the doorway ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-73S7AhE_VTs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tvx6TDPQnNc.html hope that helps. The install instructions from Home Depot say that you do not have to use an additional underlayment, but I notice in your toilet flange install clip you are using a vapor barrier. We are installing in a small, new construction apartment. Your thoughts?
@vickygratton8660
@vickygratton8660 4 года назад
I'm new to DIY and am having a heck of a time with these planks! I just can't get them to click in for a nice tight fit. You make it look super easy in your videos so I'm going to give it another go- I wish I knew what type of hammer you're using there, I've been relying on a rubber mallet and the install kit block. No matter what I do, I'm left with a gap on either the short side or the long side. I know that my old subfloor being old wood might be part of the problem. I"m only three rows in and it's not connecting well and I'm wishing that I could just throw my hands up and pay a pro! :(
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 года назад
Ok so getting the first couple rows together can be tuff. If you're new to diy then try pulling your floor off the wall about a foot and put one row together. Make sure it off the wall about the same distance on both ends. Then take some scrap pieces about 6 inches wide and click them in on the back side put one on the ends where the 2 boards come together and one in the middle of each plank. Then put some screws in them to hold the floor in place.Then you can use a scrap piece as I've shown in the video for a tapping block. And you should be able to hit it a little harder with just a regular hammer without your whole floor moving or coming Apart. Then with your mallet when you smack the planks down. Swing your mallet at an angle to push the plank together. This is how i close up gaps. Be careful using tapping blocks on the end cause it could go too far and the destroy the plank and possibly the one nex to it . After you have about 3 rows put together you can pull the screws and scrap pieces from the back and have someone help you push the whole thing back up against the wall. Then your off to the races.Hope that helps. Feel free to ask anymore questions. If I don't know the answer... I'll find it😁

I'm having a similar problem but on a concrete floor. Any suggestions. Everything locks in but there is a very slight gap on the long side some times. I hit one side and the other comes out slightly. I do the same on the other side but the side I just hit comes out slightly. Not sure what to do as I've used the spacers but it isn't helping.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Try starting your first row a couple feet off the wall. Get a sacrifice plank and cut it up in 8 inch pieces. Take those pieces and click them on the back side of your row at the seams (make sure you split the seams evenly). Go ahead and put together another row or 2 now while you are off the wall and the seams are supported by the sacrifice pieces. Now you can remove the sacrifice pieces and push all rows up against the wall. Don't forget to put your spacers in!

@@YOUFLOOR that's a good tip. Thank you.
@ericzeigler8669
@ericzeigler8669 Год назад
It''s the crappy click lock system that is giving you a hard time. The manufacturer (China) doesn't have good quality control to ensure the consumer gets a consistent product. Sometimes the click lock profile is accidentally rolled or misaligned during manufacture. Other times the click lock system is damaged in transit. Careful inspection of all planks is mandatory before beginning installation. The material used in the click lock is fragile and often crumbles during assembly. On average about 60% of the vinyl planks aren't able to pass visual inspection. That's way more than the extra 10% the manufacturer suggests buying to complete a project. If disappointment is your goal then this is the product for you.

Do you need to completely remove old adhesive from the previous floor? That’s quite a job. I’m going to make sure the floor is relatively even, smoothing out any high spots and go over the top of the vinyl adhesive. It’s not very thick. Also a little worried that the toilet flange won’t be perfectly flush to the plank. I’ve seen them completely remove the flange and re-adjust to make it flush. Also a bigger job than it seems.
@YOUFLOOR

Check this video out in which I installed life proof over vinyl ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cxA7FVlMxIw.html. Also if your toilet flange is too low they make something called a flange extension which will bring it up flush so you don't have to redo the whole plumbing. Hope that helps thanks for the question

Hi. I am watching your postings. Do I need any padding for concrete floor? My concrete floor seems that is not a perfect condition as plywood one. Is it possible to finish using the Lifeproof without any power tools. Thanks.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 4 года назад
If your laying on concrete and it is not flat you can always used floor leveler to fill in low spots. However really high spots would need to be grinded down unless your going to pour floor leveler over the whole floor to the highest point. The padding comes on the bottom of the lifeproof but you may need a moisture barrier. As for installation, As long as you have a large supply of blades you can probably install the whole floor with a razor knfe and a mallet. But cutting trim will require a miter box. Which they also make powerless ( hand saw)

How do you install up against a brick fire place, do you under cut the brick.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
It is a dusty job but unless you get lucky, you may have to undercut t he fireplace. A lot of times I get lucky and there us a layer of mortar on the bottom. I'm usually able to chisel that away enough to get the flooring underneath with enough clearance to allow expansion. Otherwise you will have to put 1/4 round around it. Problem is the brick isn't always straight. So scribing would be your last resort. Then you can silicone e between the flooring and brick. Hope that helps Thanks for the question.

@YOUFLOOR

@shdwwzrd69 You don't have to remove the baseboard unless you don't want quarter round. As for the baseboard heaters, as long as they are not blowing straight down on the floor and the LVP will slide underneath, you should be fine. Let me know if you have any other questions - good luck.

Where do you usually start if its 2 rooms with same flooring? I heard conflicting thoughts on this subject.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
It's always easiest if you can run the very 1st couple rows through all the rooms that it's going to be going in if that's not possible you will have to pop a control line and pull all your measurements off of that control line will be A-line that runs from one end to the other so that you can pull your measurements off of that into each room. I use the laser to pop a control line in this video and it helped when I had to run flooring both forwards and backwards in multiple runs maybe it will help you with your question. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R_d28YWG4qw.html

Can you go around the toilet or do you have to take the toilet up and when you do so do you have to put a new ring on the toilet?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
We generally pull the toilet. It's much easier to cut around a 7 inch hole than to try and cut each piece perfect around the toilet. Then have to caulk and seal it. And yes more than likely unless it has been recently installed the wax ring will probably need to be changed. Thanks for the question

Hello, i am going to install this in our entire first floor. My question is, in the kitchen we have vinyl sheet flooring with 1/4 in Luan but the remainder of the house has carpet on subfloor. Do I need to remove the Vinyl sheet flooring and the 1/4 luan? Before installing the lifeproof? I know the carpet and pad must go. Thank you.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Yes if you want to run your floor all at the same level with no transitions, you're going to have to remove the luan and vinyl. If you locate thre seams in the luantou can cut them with a razor knife and tear the luan in2x4 sheats. Makes it easier. Will still have to pound down a 1000 staples but it'll be worth it. Thanks for the question

Can you install all the flooring first then add cabinets on top of the plank flooring? Or will that not allow for proper expansion and contraction?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Not if it is a floating floor. You need to allow your floor to expand and contract. It will slightly move all as one with hot and cold. If it is pinned down from weigh it could stop it from moving in that area. Creating gaps This Is not so bad with lvp. But I wouldn't take the chance. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question

@YOUFLOOR

What do you mean fasten them. Like nail them down? You can't nail down floating floor. If you do you will stop it from being able to move during expansion and contractions . This can cause stress which will lead to peaking or bowed up floors. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

Do you install the Lifeproof planks under cabinets? Or do you go around cabinets?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 года назад
Technically you should not set anything heavy on any floating floors so it can still move for expansion. Furnitur and appliances are ok. But I think it's that the cabinet would be pretty heavy and attached to the wall. Preventing them from moving with the floor. Hope that helps. Thanks again for the question. 😁👊

Would you recommend these for a rental apartment? I currently have either vinyl or laminate flooring but to be honest I HATE the ones my landlord installed before I moved in. I’ve been debating on what I should do that will be easily removable when I move out since I’ll be placing new flooring on top of the existing flooring my landlord installed. What would you recommend? These?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Well this is a floating floor. And if your floor now is floating. You aren't supposed to install floating over floating. It will void the warranty. Plus it will shrink your base boards down to almost nothing. Hate to say but you may have to pull the old floor. Talk to the landlord maybe he won't mind. However yes this floor is perfect for a rental. Thanks for the question

@@YOUFLOOR I already did and he doesn’t want me to. He doesn’t want me to do anything with the floors but I hate them so much I feel compelled to do something that will work and something that I can remove without any damage or trace when I do decide to move out. Do you suggest I go with a peel and stick route? I have decent sized base boards. I just want to know whats the best route to place over these existing floors and easy to remove that doesn’t damage the existing floors
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
There's really nothing you can lay on top of a floating floor. It will be moving all the time during hot and cold moments. Could cause problems. I definitely wouldnt use peel and stick. Those can be a disaster. If your existing floor is sheet vinyl then you should be ok to lay a floating floor over the top of that without harming the vinyl.

I did a little research as I've never installed over radiant heating system. I sea.s to be okay as long as you don't get over 85°. Also if you are Installing in multiple rooms and one room has heat and one doesn't. I would definitely put a transition in the doorway. The difference in room temperatures may give you a problem with expansion. On another note. Cap-a-tread from home depot is a great choice if you are trying to match a laminate color. They have many colors. And easy to install right over the old treads. And the stair nose is built in. As far as the color of this floor I believe it is called Sterling Oak. I hope that helps. Do i have to cut planks different sizes, or can i just lay them out the length they come in???
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
To start the flooring you shoul cut 4 of them. All about 6 to 8 inches longer than the next. Now stagger them in rows in front of you. Do a big one then smaller than bigger. Try to avoid h patterns and stair stepping. Really make it random. Then when you get to the end turn a board around measure and use the cut off for the next starter. I made a video if Interested. Its actually my 1st video on RU-vid. Probably terrible lol but will explain what I just said with video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wo7oeNmfIZo.html. Hope that helps. Well I started off using them a long time ago but after doing it for so long it's not hard to Install flooring without them., as long as you're still leaving your normal 1/4 inch gap for expansion Round the perimeter. Whats your thoughts on this. So the life proof that we just bought states in the installation instructions that a sound control underlayment is required as well as #15 or #30 felt as a moisture barrier for a wood subfloor. But I dont see anybody doing this in any videos pertaining to installing this product.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
My thoughts are ... confusing. I have installed so much of this stuff. And have answered so many questions. I almost have these directions memorized. I have never seen this in any lifeproof installation instructions. Life proof comes with the pad attached for quietness. It is mage of vinyl and a crushed stone center. Almost like tile. And I don't put plastic under tile. Unless you bought lifeproof with no pad attached. Which I've never heard of. I mean we don't use under payment on certain laminate and it's made of pressed cardboard and wood. There are 2 kinds of viynl plank. Spc and wpc. Wpc has a wood core as opposed to stone. I mean maybe if you got wps you need a moisture barrier. But to answer your question. I looked it up again ro make sure im not crazy. And I don't see anything about a moisture barrier. Unless maybe you're installing in a basement. Or this is new to the installation process. You have stumped me on this one. I ffc tou dont mind me asking. What color and style did you buy and where did you buy it. I would liked to do some research and follow up on this. I install home depot products ALL the time and this has never been in my instructions. So No I don't use anything under lifeproof. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

@@YOUFLOORIts the Berkeley 7mm Lifeproof Engineered Click Bamboo Spc flooring.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 года назад
Ok so I looked up that exact flooring from home depot. And the installation Instructions. As I mentioned in my earlier answer if it is wpc then it may require a moisture barrier. This product is a wspc. lol. I didn't realize we were talking about two different lifeproofs. The one In My videos are spc so they are made of vinyl and stone core. What you have is lifeproof plus a bamboo veneer on top. That sir is a wood product. And as anyone knows wood and moisture do not go good together. So if you are installing on concrete you will need a moisture barrier of 6mil poly (plastic) before you install your flooring. It says the underlayment is attached and if so. No other underlayment is required. If you would like to send me a pic, I'd be happy to take a look at it. But that's whereI am right now. Hope that was helpful

@@YOUFLOOR So I checked out the product online and clicked on the installation instructions in the home depot online store and they are different than the paper installation instructions that came in the box. So not sure why the paper installation instructions in the box are different than the ones showing online. They are probably the ones you looked at. This makes it confusing for the consumer cause its state different ways to install. Im going with what you said and how it shows online.
