I just changed my wifes 99 gmc seirra passenger door regulator and motor, with your video help it took longer to take off the door panel then to change out the whole motor and assembly. Your videos Rock, please keep up the good work, you honestly don't know how much these videos help. Thankyou so much
My dealership wanted $400 to do this job! I bought the part for $100, brought the laptop right out to the truck with me and went through it step by step. I never would have attempted this without the video. The window works perfectly and you can't tell the door panel was removed. AWESOME!!! thank you.
Just want to echo everybody else's comments here. I diid the first window in 50min and the second one in 30min start to finish. Wouldn't have even looked at it without this video. Thanks for sharing this expertise, from one tradesman to another.
Well, you saved me $100, It took me less then an hour to change the regulator. Thanks soooo much. The door panel was the hardest part. I used to work on my cars all the time and have been paying people to do most repairs lately. Your video was a very good learning method.... THANKS FOR POSTING!!!!!
I found this video to be 100% informative and accurate. Being someone who doesn’t know a lot about vehicle repairs, I was able to use this video with the part I purchased at a local auto parts store and do the installation with the help of my brother in less than an hour. Window now works great. Thank you so much for posting this video

Just wanted to say thank you very much for your videos. They are a lot of help to me and save money. The labor costs as you know are sometimes outrageous. I have been able to do a lot of my own repairs that normally I wouldn't even attempt. Thanks again and all of us out here really appreciate helpful people like you. Keep up the good work. (Ten thumbs up !!!)
THANK YOU 1aauto for ALL your wonderful videos! I'm not sure if it was just my laptop but the sound in your video started out loud & clear but ended up so low that we couldn't hear what he was saying. So we just watched what he was doing and didn't hear the part about holding on to the wheel! LOL... That said, we ended up watching your "What NOT to do when replacing a power window motor" and my daughter & I got it done! THANK YOU again, as you helped 2 females save a lot of time & money!! =)
Just changed out my rght side front motor and reg. and it took me way too long but your video was instrumental to my success. Thank you very much. Bill from Memphis.
This how to video was excellant, found it very helpful( Note; I have a 1999 GMC SIERRA and there is some minor diffences concerning fastener locations on the door panel) Anyway removal and installation of the power window motor and regulator took me 35 minutes. Such RU-vid howto video's are better that the factory shop manuals published by GM that I have.

DIY people, the IDEA is to BUY PARTS from 1Aauto when you need them instead of amazon or ebay. 1Aauto guys spend time and money making these videos for us noobs so lets show some love and buy parts from them once in a while. Otherwise we'll be watching Earl outside his trailer with no light and a crappy camera! I always look for 1aAuto videos because they cover even the most mundane and have professional videos. Thanks 1aAuto
I just replaced my window motor and regulator on my 2001 Silverado. The video gives confidence in how to do it. The 1aauto parts are good quality and cheaper than local parts stores. I cannot recommend them enough.

I didnt realize the window system used cable guides so I messed up and the whole cable wheel came out and undone now iv got a mess, I regret not watching you guys before hand
Awesome video, made the job so easy just watching the video while I was doing the work and pausing it when I couldn't keep up. Only wish you spoke louder.
Thank you very much for posting this video about how not to do it as well as the one about how to do it... although I took both approaches (sigh) you saved me a lot of grief nonetheless. Hope you guys are getting lots of business as a result of this effort -- if I do need to buy something I'll come your way.
Thanks so much for this video, got the job done this morning with minimal fuss! Only difference with my 2003 1500 SLT is there is no T2 torx screw and no plastic clip to remove before pulling the door panel off.
Excellent video, but I found someone to do the job for $75. Rather pay a buddy than me struggle for 2 days trying to figure it out- with your video, im sure I could do it in 8 hours (I think), once I have all the tools. Your video is excellent in showing the skill it takes to do it. Thanks, I will subscribe

Excellent post thank you for your help. I used you're advise to replace the regulator on my '03 sierra denali. everything was going well until i went to get the replacement part from my gmc dealer. Apparently the regulator has changed . Now the bottom two attachment points are studs that accept a 10 mm nut. The nut of course doesn't come with the replacement part so I had to return to the dealer to get the two nuts that were missing.
@Spank529 Process will be similar, you will probably have to unbolt the regulator so you can move the window in to a position where you can get at the bolts that hold the reg to the window.
Thanks! The hard part is putting the door trim back on. Any tips for how to get the 5 hook thingies engaged and still have the power door lock bar in the right hole?

Ok, you make it look easy. I will give it a try on my 2000 Chevy Silverado. Your replacement parts, are they as good or better than dealer parts? Do you have free shipping?
Normally there should be no squealing going on with the regulator after installing a new one. If it is, most likely one of the one of the rollers is not properly lubricated or the wire is catching causing it to bind up and make a noise. You could try spraying the wheels with lithium grease and see if that solves your issue.
I would like to see one of your videos that covers the replacement of the power window motor on a 2004 Chevy Colordado. Any plans for this? There seems to be a rash of these motors failing all of a sudden.
@1985k20silverado You can install power windows in to a truck with manual windows. You would need to put in the motors and mechanisms and run the wiring. The basic idea is simple but wiring and all that is more complicated.
Great video. My 2000 Yukon XL was slightly different, but your directions worked great. One question, is it a good idea to apply a small amount of grease to the tracks, if so, what kind?
+J Swolf If you're just replacing the window motor, it wouldn't hurt to place a little bit of white lithium grease in the tracks. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Sometimes there is a safety clip to make sure it the connection does not come a part. The clip needs to be pulled out for the connection to be released. This sounds like the case on the window motor connection.
Okay, so I got it all apart just great, thanks to this vid. However, now the regulator is going up too high and sliding off it's own track. Is there a special way to connect the motor to the regulator so that it only goes up a certain distance? I fiddled around with it for a while and got it to go up even higher off it's track but am still having trouble getting it the other way. Suggestions, anyone?
Never mind.... Come to find out, it only has that problem when it's still out of the door. The window itself keeps the regulator from going up too high, LOL! Well, guess that's what DIY is all about: LEARNING! Thanks again for the video!
I would add something to this. If your regulator has failed on a mechanical level. It may be easier to remove the weather barrier and pull the window out before replacing the regulator. I also recommend doing both at the same time since the knowledge will be fresh in your mind and this was a poor design from the upstart. I also suggest replacing the motor at the same time since you can buy a combo motor/regulator for around 110 $ USD
We carry new window regulators on our website with free shipping. Here's a link to them if you would like to see what we have. www.1aauto.com/gmc-sierra-1500-hd-power-window-motor/mo-c/2094-22?RU-vid&CTA%20Comment&ATony
I also have a slow window and recently it has been stopping altogether and I have to wait a few seconds to use the switch again and I can get the window up. Is there an easy way to know whether it is the motor, the regulator or both?
@sparkplug1100 You may want to take the door panel off to see if the window regulator has let go. We sell the window motors and window regulators on our website. Here's a link to the 1500 Silverado section. 1aauto.com/1A/-/Chevy/Silverado1500/-/-/2001
i have a 2000 pontiac sunfire....the window is 2 inches down from the top and is stuck it wont roll up or down (automatic) now my question is will the process of fixing the motor be some what similar to the impala video because i really dont have a lot of money and id rather learn to do it myself..from watchin the vids it doesnt look complicated but i wanna be 100%...please help when u have time
I tried replacing the motor, and it seemed to work better, but then the other window got slower. After a little bit more, they are both slow, with one being slower than before. Sometime they won't go up all the way, until I turn the car on or hit the button again. Any ideas? Thanks
...once you lift the door panel up, you're disconnecting the mirror, door lock, and the larger black clip ( which you mention you struggled with a bit)... the window switch that you're unplugging those clips from...have a video on how to replace THAT? My Keyless Entry quit, along with the window, lock and mirror on the Pass side...the Keyless receiver is inside the Passenger Door Module, which is inside that Passenger door window switch, and I need to replace that switch! ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated !!! excellent videos!
+Brian Curtiss Thanks for watching. It sounds as if something may not be in proper alignment, or there may be strain once the regulator is extended in the up position. We suggest confirming the alignment of the window on the track and make sure the rollers are fully functional. 1aauto.com
thanks for the reply and all the great videos. I took it apart again and this time I didn't seat the window all the way in the clamps and also sprayed seals with silicone. working good now. thanks again
How do you know which to replace? My window rolls down but it won't roll back up now. Would that be the motor or the regulator? The cable seems real tight. Is it suppose to that much tension on it?
Keith Chartier you could do what I did and pick up a regulator that has the motor already attached. That way you don't have to figure it out and you also don't have to worry about the part you didn't replace going bad in the near future
I am having an issue with just getting the window free from it. What happened was my window is going down but now will only come up about 2 inches and stops. Not making squeeking noises just stops. so the window is still below in the door. How do I get it to release so I can tape it up and pull the regulator and motor out?
I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado with manual windows. Driver's side window does not roll up, although I can sort of force it up. Any advice on resolving the issue?
