S&S Cycle shows you step by step, how to install a S&S 1200 kit on a 883 Sportster. Click here for details about the S&S Cycle 1200 kit - www.sscycle.co...
I just followed ur instructions and did my 1200 install so far so good bike starts fine no oil leaks engine sounds a tiny bit louder in my oppinion with the 1200 kit but anyways i am going to start my break in today thanks ur video was very detailed and easy to understand thanks alot of doing this video to help us regular joes do it ourselfs.....RIDE SAFE AND THANKS ALOT🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙💪
@@SSCycleInc im at about half way thru break in ive been taking it super eay and at 65 no highway riding i have not tuned with fp3 vance and hines so the idle isnt the greatest at the moment is sometimes shuts off when i come to a complete stop. I know its because i have not tined it do i have to wait until the 1000 mile mark before i can tune it ? Or will tuning it right now destroy something in my motor
@@SSCycleInc hey need some help since out lockdown i havent really been riding decided to take a ride last night this morning i noticed a small leak between the front jug and engine case so ive been tryn to find new gaskets harley davison eagles nest to be exact tells me they have never heard of a 31/2 bore kit so they cant tell me wat gaskets i need to stop the leak i also noticed a small amout of oil from breather bolts
YESSSSSS look up Lowbrow Customs and for a much better series of install than this and with no fast forwarding through any steps. There are 4 videos and you will install this like a pro!
„Do not mix and match the pistons with each cylinder!“ My 883 to 1200 kit did contain the pistons separately, so I couldn’t match it to a cylinder. Both pistons were handwritten 3.4960 on the inside. I reckon they can be used in either front or rear?
I've seen a few of these videos and only one has mentioned that you have to remove the clutch spring plate. And make a few changes. Did you so as well ? Thanks
We would recommend that you inspect the installation, or take it back to the shop who did the installation. With proper installation there should not be any noticeable increase in oil leaking anywhere.
@@SSCycleInc well i gave them 3 chances to fix it and they couldnt, hauled it with everything eles to colorado. Found a real harley mechanic. Alls well soon i bet.
Our 1200cc Kit bolts onto an 883 with stock heads and works very well. Larger valve head will add additional power on top of that, but is not required for this conversion.
Yes it will! The kit is for '86-'19 883s www.sscycle.com/products/883-to-1200cc-conversion-kit-for-1986-2019-hdsupsup-sportstersupsup-models-silver-finish/
I'm really interested getting this for my motorcycle. but I'm confused about the ring gap process. I understand the purpose is to make sure rings are inside toleramces, but what do you do if you find yourself out of these tolerances?
What's the purpose of gapping the rings? Just to make sure there is a gap or to make sure it's within tolerance before you go through all the effort? Im a little confused on the purpose
Case (block) is the same on 883 and 1200. Sleeve (the tube piston rides on inside of the cylinder) is same OUTSIDE diameter on both models, the inside diameter of the sleeve determines the CC's and is smaller on the 883 models. That help?
@@SSCycleInc so, 883 cylinder slave is quarter of inch ticker than 1200 cc? Why 883 made such a fat cylinder slaves? So, HD started from 1200 and "downgraded" to the 883 - just a slower version of 1200 for new riders? As if they started from 883 engine and then upgraded it to 1200, I believe, in this case engine parts won't hold the HP?
@@Aivaras83 so 1200 or up higher cylinder sleeves are thinner correct?? cylinder walls thinner, is this good or bad?? i mean are they stronger resistant materials or what? for example the 1250 or 1275 have thinner walls hopefully stronger materials...ps..if i change heads from 883 to 1200 do i have to change pistons?? let us know thank you.
Great video! Is there anything else you did to tune the bike with the increased displacement? I’ve read that on older carbureted sportsters it is necessary to change the ignition module, is that true? If not, do you need to reset the ignition timing at all? Can the stock carb still be used, do you install bigger jets? I’ve already put in bigger jets in my carb after I did a stage 1 upgrade. I’m looking at buying a s&s 1200 kit for my 2000 883, so any further info about what I might need to do aside installing the kit itself would be appreciated! Thanks
Jet kit or replacement carb is important. Stock ignition will work fine. For the stock carb we like the Dynojet kit. Otherwise a well tuned S&S e-carb works great.
@@SSCycleInc so you say that an 883 ignition module and stock sensor will be ok without any replacement to 1200 ecm or reposition sensor?? just wanted to make double sure cause since my conversion to 1200 bike vibrates the hell and breaks aluminium parts, also fouls spark plugs, please tell me thanks
@@Salvatore3333 Should only require a re-jet to go from 883 to 1200 on that machine. Vibration and fouling sound as though there are other issues with the bike and we recommend visiting a qualified dealer to properly diagnose the motorcycle
