In this video I will show you how to install BMW tappets/hydraulic lifters, camshafts and vanos wheels. If you want to see the removal of these parts please check out my other video.
Hi Zane. Engine is finished and car is fully operational 😜. This is old content that I am editing as I am recording more than I can process. It is very time consuming but hope to catch up this winter as I spend more time indoors at this time of the year. Have you got any projects yourself atm?
Hi and thanks for watching. Hope you find it helpful. Insert your crankshaft locking pin, then lock your camshafts too, this way you know everything is in the right place. After this I removed the camshaft blocks and all parts. The installation is like the removal in reverse🤝
Hi It wouldn't do any harm to oil them. If you have fogging oil give them a squirt. They will fill with oil in seconds after engine start but best not to run them dry in case some manufacturers don't add any oil in them. Use assembly oil when installing them🔧🤝
@@TheKeenMechanic Thanks bud, I'm just in the process, mine is non vanos, all covers out (almost missed the screw that is out of the oil pain. Did just losen the cam sprockets but everything is still there, I have some liqui moly assembly oil with molybdenum, will use that for the cams, for the lifters will inspect the new ones before installing, I may put for 10w40 (Argentina, warm weather here) on a cup and presoak them. I had chain noise, thought it was the guides but it was the camshaft chain tensioner on drivers side, was super loosy after opening the engine, anyways I have new guides, new lifters, new chains, osv, etc, so changing everything as the engine is open. I was lucky to not tear up the upper oil pain gasket, so that is something less to do, I was recommended to add a super thing dab of gasket forming compound on the corners where upper oil pain, lower cover and the block meet. Well just that, the only thing that scared me so far was that when I started loosing the sprockets screws (this one has 6 torx on each instad of a a big one), the sprokcets kinda returned a few degrees passenger side, I assume this is something between the chain being loose, the camshaft locks still not in place (as I have to swap lifters), etc. Will see when assembling back this weekend.
@@DiegoMarcianoDM Nice job bud. It sounds like you are just as passionate about these cars as I am. I love the detail you are going into and wish you best of luck with the project. It is so nice to meet so many likeminded people from every part of the world. Thanks for your nice message and for watching my videos. 🔧🔩🤝
@@TheKeenMechanic yes I did torque to spec the first time, second time with loctite, third time I went higher with torque specs. All three times the bolt still broke loose. I’m thinking about swapping camshafts next. Will no oil pressure cause this?
How long between each time you had to re-tighthen? I am thinking poor oil pressure will cause very serious issues but definitely will not loosen the bolts.
@@stics412 Very strange. These bolts are reverse thread so unless the threads are bad or there are some vibrations they shouldn't loosen. If you are able to tighten so much even above the spec and you are not stripping the threads then threads must ok. Might be worth to replace the cams, cam caps, vanos and bolts even from a used engine to see if this will solve the problem. Let me know how you get on as I have never heard of this before. Have you asked on the facebook groups?
