Normally, you will find me doing woodworking but I also love my motorbikes so I thought I would throw this out there. I am far from a mechanic but i did this with basic tools in 20 minutes... and 5 seconds.

Did you have any backfiring issues? Was curious if you needed to reject the carbs...

Hi mate, no I havent had any issues with backfiring. When I researched the pipes, they say you can just bolt them straight on without an issue.

Hey man can you please tell me part number for the vance and hines exhaust I'm having hard time finding perfect exhaust for my 2018 v star 650 custom mine bike same as yours 18515 part number what I found just want to make sure 👍

Hey mate, I bought these second hand and told they fit my model, I dont know a part number but if you can tell me where the number is located on the part, i'll go and have a look for you.

Looks great! Tried doing it on mine, but the heat shield on the lower head pipe got in the way? What part number are these V&H Short Shots?

I had exactly the same problem and double checked that they are fo the right bike. Also found the mount plate had the bottom pipe mount too far forward and was too close the the body of the bike.

Hey Chris, what happened with your install? I have the same issue with my 99 Classic and the vendor is a little unco-operative.

So an update on this, I was told by Vance and Hines that they do not produce a short shots for anything before 2004. This is why heat shield is in the way and why the plate doesn't line up. I modified the plate with slots instead of holes and removed the heat shield with an angle grinder, to replacing it with a spurious heat shield from eBay for £10. Other than those issues it fits well but make sure you get the right rear cylinder gasket.

I've got these on my 2010 vstar650 classic, but I had hard a hard time with the front header muffler - was a really really tight fit that I had to break out a rubber mallet for but I'll admit I did not have the best leverage. I checked to see if there was anything in the way and didn't seem so. Did yours just slip right on without resistance or did you have to put a bit of effort into it too? also, did you do anything with the gasket for the front muffler? if so, what? pretty sure my original one just broke off from taking the old system off and age - or did you just slip it on and tighten the T-bolt clamp? thank you for any help with this, just worried I might be breaking or warping something.

@@PornstarJerome doesn't matter too much, my stock pipes had a bit of carbon buildup and twisting it back and forth as I was fitting the muffler worked fine, no fault of V&H

Hi mate, sorry for taking so long to reply but I can see you got there in the end. I would have recommended the same thing hahah just a bit of twisting, swearing and elbow grease and it should fit on no problems. Cheers and ride safe ✌🏼

@@OzSawdustMakers all good brother! But while we’re here, do you put exhaust gaskets or anything like that when you tighten up the exhaust? I threw some short shots on my 650 Vstar about two months ago, no gasket, just shoved in and tightened down, I wasn’t sure if this was correct. Anywho, take care!

hey mate, you think they'd fit on a 2020 v star I just dont want to spend alot of money on exhaust for it not to fit or work

It should, I don't think the V star has changed its design for a very long time. You just have to make sure that you're buying the right pipes to fit your bike.

Hi Danny, they should fit absolutely. I don't think there was any design change at all over the last few years, but i'm no expert so I cannot guarantee for sure. Ring up an exhaust place and tell them you want a quote to fit them to your bike, they should tell you if there's gonna be any issues, then just do it yourself!!

Thanks for the video, I'm about to install mine. You missed out the pipe assembly steps though. When the pipes arrive they are in bits and you have to assemble them. You'd already done this and its the only bit i am scratching my head over! haha!

Some do and some don't. Normally they replace the Jets, I never have and I'm still riding with these pipes.

Nope, it just slides straight over the standard pipe.

No idea where you live but talk to your local motorcycle parts dealer, jump on eBay or Facebook Marketplace or contact Vance and Hines directly. Thanks for commenting.
