You make this look easy. I’m working with some like this from ABC supply (Norandex), and I’m having to fight every piece and found some didn’t snap in all the way despite fighting to make it snap in. I was hoping you may have set a chalk mark above to measure to check it’s running straight. I think when you do a lot of anything, you figure out ways to make it easy? I’m guessing different companies are easier than others to install. I was also working at 40 degrees and that probably didn’t help. Thanks.

Shannon we live in Nova Scotia and we want to install faux brick under our livingroom window. Can you explain how my husband should start it ? He's very handy and has done vinyl siding before but he's not certain whether it's the same procedure. Thank you, Sylvia

Beach House is the brand. I like the darker shading between them I think it makes them look more like wood shakes also

I love watching your videos! As a DIYer I learn ample amounts of knowledge every time I watch. I am doing a vinyl siding job at the house, how did you finish off the flashing around the door frame and what did you use to fasten/adhere the flashing to the wood? How far does the door frame have to protrude to be flush with the j-channels? Thanks and God Bless!

I used custom bent aluminum and then cut and fit to the trim around the opening. Just the odd small flat nail hidden where the J channel covers it.

its only screws that you used on the top pieces which is good to know but what type of screw and how long should they be?

Anyplace that sells vinyl siding should be able to order this style of siding as well. These were "Perfection Shakes"

Shannon, I'm building my own window trim with PVC using the Dado method so the siding goes behind the trim. My concern is the top of the window and water flow. down the sides of the window. Do you have a video that explains the proper trim method for this? I looked but probably missed it. Thanks!

Not specifically. I would adhere membrane flashing right to the window frame as best as you can.

I dont use strapping over foam. I use 3" nails.

Where did you purchase the J Channel Piece? Is this sold on the same site as the product? Or did you purchase somewhere else and try to match the color? Also, is this what you would use if installing on the peak up to the roof overhang if I do not have trim?

They were all purchased through my local lumber supplier . Not sure if the J was direct from the same siding supplier or not. You can use these shakes on the gable ends as well and would use J channels along the edges.

Is this type of a product going to be suitable for the deep South in Mississippi considering sometimes we get hurricanes? If not, what other water proof siding product can you recommend? I like the look of the shake. Someone told me not to get cement board due to the humidity and heat and the amount of water we have here. Thank you very much. Great job!

I could not be 100 percent sure as I am a long ways form Mississippi! Best to check with a local siding supplier from your area.

This looks like the Tando Beachhouse Shake product. What makes this product look so great is the fact that they color the key way channels (the space in between each shake) with a darker color. I have them on my house.

J channel against the brick first then the siding slips into that.Just like what I did at the door.

I believe there are you need to have the proper siding attachment and setting so the nails are not over driven.

THAT was GREAT! I've seen this siding before, never put it on a building. I would try it, probably would take me 3 times as long as you in installing it. Overcautious!

Shannon on the door trim in the beginning of the video it was a wood trim. At the end it looked as if it was metal. What did you do ?

There are many different brands and most lumber supply stores or even big box stores can get them. If you strapped the brick wall and sheeted it ,it may be doable but not ideal?

I've worked with that type of siding many times, great product. Nice job. Did you build the roof over the hot tub? Would like to see more of it or a separate picture of it. Think of building one. Looking for ideas.
