Welcome back to our channel! In this video, we demonstrate the installation process of two windows using Siga flashing tapes, high-quality product we discovered during our visit to Siga headquarters in Switzerland. We'll show you the Siga Rissan premade corners and window flashing. This video is technically sponsored as Sega provided us with their tape. We'll walk you through the entire process, from pre-made corners to leveling and securing the windows. Watch as we demonstrate the ease and efficiency of this installation technique, making it perfect for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals. Stay tuned for useful tips and tricks, including the benefits of textured panel adhesion. Like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to catch more informative videos. Let's get started!

Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like RU-vid if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

Just wanted to put it on here. I reached out to Siga and they got me in touch with their regional distributer. And they were super nice and sent me several samples of their products. Even two of the corner tapes you used. A fun bonus a pack of Ricola cough drops. Gotta love the swiss. Or wherever they are from. Thank you so much for all your videos. Made building my own house a lot less stressful.

Thanks for answering everyone's questions on why you don't slope the sill (or back dam). Maybe you should have had that in the video lol. My house is on the ocean in Ocean Shores out here in the Pacific Northwest and it literally rains sideways. 30 mph winds in a downpour. Gravity is a minor concern in those conditions. My question is have you considered trying a vapor open tape on the bottom window nailing flange. Huber now makes a vapor open tape. Any water that would collect for whatever reason, would then have a chance to release when the weather warms up. Sort of like sweating while wearing a Gortex jacket. Logically, this seems to be the reason that they make vapor permeable tapes. I don't know why nobody uses them on the bottom of the window. I see architect Steve Bazic uses vapor permeable tapes on the bottom of the exterior Zip to catch and release any moisture that may have drained to the vulnerable and problematic bottom edge. I would bet money you could get a better blower door test value by taping the bottom of the window flange with permeable tape. Maybe this is something someone would could try on their next build with the before and after test number.

No need for the VP tape even where you are building. If we build correctly, then its a non issue IRL. Steve is using Fentrim at the bottom of the wall for air sealing. The amount of water getting past a correctly detailed siding system is less then .1%

Taping or caulking the bottom of a window is a major no-no in many areas, as it allows water to drain if it were to somehow enter the opening. Air-sealing is done from the inside with a bead of spray foam, or foam rod & caulk.
@c5tv674
@c5tv674 Год назад
We always put the caulk in the edge of the RO instead of the window flange. Then you can grab the window wherever without getting caulk on your hands

Have you used 3M UC? I started recommending it to GCs after I did. 1 piece, stretches around the corner. No buildups. I love that stuff Also, I've always put caulking on the edge of the RO. Easier and cleaner

Does siga and zip go together? Meaning we where told we could only use zip products on zip panels otherwise they void our warrenty.

For Huber's warranty, use seam tape on seams and corners. You can use another brand for window flashing.

I mean I get the perception , but if water gets behind the window, is the there some scientific explanation as to why water must stop at 2”. It seems there should be a slope or a 3/8 dam at the back that the tape would roll over.
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 10 месяцев назад
Water doesn't get behind the window. Slope doesn't actually work. This is popularized on the Internet but no one shows how much water it would take to actually run down and out. Properly set and flashed windows don't leak until something major happens like a broken window. Sloped sill don't help in that situation.

@@AwesomeFramers so why pan ?
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 10 месяцев назад
@@richardkoontz831 Truth is there are probably more homes in North America with out pans and are problem free than homes with pans. That aside, it doesn't cost much, take much time and is more an "insurance policy" a "what if?". Where I would revisit a lot of this personally is if I was building on the coast.

It doesn’t make sense to me that you’d pan flash the bottom of the R.O. but not pitch the sill via a clapboard or hit the framing with a RAZ or angle grinder with an aggressive wheel. If water does get in there then it can come in and run down the interior side of the R.O. I don’t leave the bottom un taped being in a high wind zone. The difference in pressure during a rain and wind storm from inside of the house to out will suck water up under that bottom flange and into the house. I’ve watched it happen.
@GoldenAura32
@GoldenAura32 Год назад
I think its cause they used sealant before hanging the window as well as taping a second time.
@CMCraftsman
@CMCraftsman Год назад
@@GoldenAura32 that still doesn’t logically make sense. If you’re leaving the bottom un taped, and un sealed, then you’re expecting water to get in at the top at some point through the window itself failing or your tape and you want it to get out at the bottom. But if the sill isn’t pitched to the exterior then you just directed that water you’re expecting one day to the interior side of the framing.
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers Год назад
Sloping the sill does zero good and is a waste of time. It takes a lot of water to create the movement needed to drain. Because we flash the window properly and its water and airtight (we blower door test every home), that amount of water will never make it to the inside. Sloping sills is one of the great ideas of the internet that doesn't match up with reality. If you have that amount of moisture, you've got serious problems.
@CMCraftsman
@CMCraftsman Год назад
@@AwesomeFramers ok then why pan flash the window at all? Why not just leave the pan out, you already have paper wrapped into the opening. I want to be clear that I’m not being a jerk, I just see all these different methods and I myself would like to get to one that is the most logical for the effort and material put into the install.
