JKD is definitely supposed to teach you to be humble. I’m glad you said that.

I've been watching this series for 4 months already. I've always loved bruce lee since i was a kid and have been inspired by his philosophy and what he stood for! I've been trained in boxing since I was 8 by my father (he was a golden glove). Before that I was bullied cuz of me being the smallest kid in my class. Then I saw Bruce lee, a guy who wasn't a muscle bound 6ft tall guy, yet he had that speed, power, strength, as well as that no fear attitude. A guy who could take on anyone no matter how big or tall they were. That's what inspired me to want to learn JKD. I'm currently training in kempo, but low key when my sensei has me spar, I like to use some aspects of JKD during kumite and thanks to this channel it has helped me a lot (especially since there are no JKD schools or teachers in my area or near my area)! Thanks so much Dan! Love your content!!!! Be water my friend!!!!!

I've been practicing martial arts for most of my life. I've only been (officially) practicing Jeet Kune Do for roughly 3 years now, and I will say that for me, Martial Arts wasn't JUST about being able to fight, that was only a by-product. Truthfully, it was about finding myself, and then expressing myself through this physical display of skill. So to me, the spiritual and mental aspects of the martial art is JUST as important as the physical. You need both in harmony to be a complete person. It's not about being able to kick someone's ass. It's about being able to overcome the obstacles in your life, and learning from the one's you've failed to, no matter what form they may take. Thank you for sharing.

High Phoenix1754. Yes it ain’t just about fighting. After watching martial artists for a while, you will realise anyone can imitate Lee’s moves and also look good. He was really good, however had he not made movies, I doubt many would care bout him. He was for sure a real martial artist. I compare him to Napoleon Hill. Who in my opinion, was like the Bruce Lee of self help. Hill, never started any businesses. He sold books. Like Lee, who didn’t win any tournaments and weighed just around ten stone. Like Lee, mostly theory.

Dan I just love all your JKD videos. You're so honest and straight forward. I like how you really tell what the meaning of JKD and what Bruce wanted to bring to his art. Also how you demonstrate different ways to do a technique or principle.

Great explanation how Bruce Lee went through the thought process to get to a better philosophy in fighting. I am a big guy ..6' 1" 270 lbs. however I had no concept or idea in fighting. I have been taking JKD for 6 months now and it is amazing. Learning techniques at slow speed and then having the instructor throw punches and kicks at me with boxing gloves on so I can practice everything I have learned is enlightening. Just like Dan says here or elsewhere ...you have to get to the point where you are not thinking but reacting or even anticipating and reading the micro movements of your opponent. It focuses you. That is great for so many things. Also it makes you realize the last thing you want to do is fight someone. It is only there as a last resort but good insurance to have. It has given me confidence. I used to shy away or or avoid situations. Now I can observe and walk on past and still feel good about myself. There is nothing to prove. It is there for survival if I need it and only then.

I was a student of 8th degree Joo Sang Lee with Hwa Rang Do. Back in the 70's, through intensive training that was how he taught. I remember when he told me that I need to be much quicker. I was the fastest one in school except for him. He taught me how to clear my mind of all thoughts so that I could do exactly what you were talking about. He would say in broken English. " No thinking just doing, if you think about doing it's too late." It was The most awesome feeling. I would always just like you said sense the smallest movement before the actual technique and I could hit him twice before he could throw his. As you said there is always more to learn, and humility is a great asset.

In this short demo video, you have so expertly demonstrated, apart from his many uniformed, often jealous and ignorant detractors, how much of a martial arts genius Bruce was. Lee's almost superhuman martial arts skills coupled with his ability to rise above and move outside classic martial arts training was a boon to the martial arts and not an insult as so many martial arts perceived of his being a non classical, reality martial arts thinker. Please continue to make this videos, you are giving a great deal of knowledge and understanding to the martial arts community who are willing to open their minds.

Here we are in a pandemic and I just bought a book to get me on the path to learning the art. I know it will take years upon years to learn but I am ready to go down the path and better myself and my life for my family. I just came upon your channel today and you are an inspiration and I have been looking at your different videos for hours now and I must say in a way in that time you have changed my life. Good stuff. I've been watching your videos for quite a while and enjoyed alot of them. JKD is easy to understand. Not so easy in practice. I intercepted my opponents a bunch of times in sparring, but i still haven't mastered it. I need to work on confidence. Sometimes, i miss the signs my opponent is about to attack so i fail to intercept fast enough.

I consider myself a student of Bruce Lee my entire life, not directly but through proxy, I have spent my life thus far studying him & learning his philosophy & what little technique I can develop without any training or going train with any martial artists. It has given me the ability & strength to see a world unclouded by uncertainty, helped me defend myself against individuals in my life, & also given me to tools to be adaptable & go with the flow. I very much enjoy your videos. I look forward to learning what I can. I see it as a tool to protect myself & family but never to start a fight, only end one.

Really enjoy these videos. As a child I was introduced to American Taekwondo and was lucky enough to spat with people like Chuck Norris. Understand I was only 9 at the time but he was less than impressed when I kept asking him about his meetings with Bruce Lee. I stopped practicing a couple years later at brown belt because of my parents divorce. Fighting became a way of life for me due to the schools i had to attend. One of those schools the beat on you because you are different. Bruce is very inspirational to me. As are these videos. It's not the same but it's still inspiring to know that there are people out there with more than just themselves in mind.

I am a short person and found bullies love to pick ones smaller. At first, I was just uncontrollably crazy beserker in a fight and was known as a "chuck a nut". At the boarding school I went to, one guy started teaching me TKD. Then I met a man named Benji in Gloucester Mass that changed my life, instructing me in JKD, Kali and Wing Chun. It centered me. Through meditations, helped to calm me and focus me. The workouts kept me in shape for my other love, long distance backpacking/nature photography. Which further aided me. Nothing like doing early morning exercises and meditations in a forest. I have stayed with it. I am 63, still train every day. Got a home dojo in cellar. Been training my daughter. Teach some children self defense. But I agree with alot of what you are teaching as Ive used it myself in various jobs like bouncer I have had.

I like that he considered the worst case scenario where you might find yourself fighting an alien. Dude’s got it all covered.

Very grateful for the videos. Martial Arts is meekness, confidence, health, and peace.

HI Dan, I have watched the Ip man movies and was very impressed by the style. I have practiced San Soo for many years and love it. In the last several years I have been extremely lax in my practice. Watching your training videos have rekindled my desire to practice. Your instruction is simple and easy to follow, now it is up to me to practice to enhance my overall well being physical, emotional and spiritual. Thank you thank you so much.
