Hi, Jake! Thanks for another awesome video. I'm just about to start my investing journey with an initial 100k investment with a time horizon of 10-12 years. I'm looking to have a portfolio with a split with Growth ETFs of 50% (50% SPYG + 50% VGT - to rebalance these towards High dividend ETFs in the future) + another 50% in Dividend ETFs (50% SCHD+50% VYM - don't think it makes sense to overlap VYM with DGRO). What do you think? I would appreciate your feedback a lot. Thanks!

look at the charts, bitcoin has outperformed every stock and banking product ever developed even after multiple pullbacks over the last decade. not a financial advisor but I know what i'm saying

Agreed, I'm in line with having a financial advisor oversee my day-to-day investing cos, my job doesn't permit me the time to carry on market analysis. Thankfully, my stagnant portfolio once ago has now 5X in four years, summing up nearly $1m as of today.

In my opinion the 401K is just to get whatever company match and free money out of your plan
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 9 месяцев назад
Yeah that is def a huge bonus. It is also great if you want to roll over or convert into a Roth IRA so that you can pick your own retirement investments.

I like how vanguard didn’t do a more current analysis up to 2023. We all know bonds fell like crazy and crushed the returns for the last 2 years. Kind of important.

We found out that our corporate 401k plan does not allow for drip and nobody seems to know where the dividends are going to; because not to employees!

It could go back into the NAV of the fund. I’ve had a plan like that as well. The dividends are just reflected in the share price of the fund.

Hey Jake, nice portfolio! I got a question for you, are you concerned at all with the dollar amount being over the sipc insurance amount provided in your brokerage account? Does M1 Finance have excess insurance over the 500,000 sipc insurance? Thanks!

Hi Jake. I'm new to the channel and really like the content I've watched thus far. At the end of the video you mentioned that you just invest in growth index funds in your retirement account. Will you please make a video showing which funds these are? Best regards.

Brother i make 100k a year. My question is, should i max out my employer 401k and an ira before investing in a roth ira or should i just max out my employer 401k and roth ira?

What if your employer does not match at all?
@DividendGrowthInvesting

I personally would max my HSA and Roth IRA first and then consider if it makes sense to invest in an employer's 401k.

I have a Roth IRA I max out and a brokerage account and possible pension as of now so I always debate on if I should even do my Roth 401k anymore that does not match. I don’t get to pick what’s in it other than s and p 500 or they automatically set you up for a target date fund which I’ve opted out of. I do 10% of my paycheck weekly until someone can’t tell me to put that 10% somewhere better which is what I’m thinking. All help greatly appreciated.
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 9 месяцев назад
Yeah it all depends on your goals and timeline, but I would def. focus on an HSA and Roth IRA first if there is no employer match.

I am not much of a 401K guy or into any of those retirement accounts. I normally skip over your videos dealing with that, admittedly. I took the plunge and watched this video out of all your other retirement account uploads and I believe I got some value out of this video. I intend to listen again because I want to make sure I understand what you’re saying. Currently I’m sort of confused on if you meant that when you converted a 401K to a Roth, if you had to pay taxes. I was under the impression you were saying that one could bypass the taxes you owe from cashing out a 401K, by converting to a Roth IRA (since you don’t pay taxes on withdrawals in a Roth) and I think that’s what was your “surprise” tax bill? Anyways. Great video.
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 9 месяцев назад
Yes you can bypass it but depends on your tax bracket and income that year. You can convert it over many years to avoid any taxes as long as you stay in a low tax bracket.

@@DividendGrowthInvesting Okay I took another listen and think I learned more. I will say I would find it helpful and a good video idea (unless you’ve already made one) to see how one can put in money, pre-tax, into a retirement account and withdrawal from it years down the line, also tax free- if that’s even likely. Thanks for the tip. I like how practical and informative your videos are. I receive a lot of value from them.

Are you ever worried that balances over 250k are not fdic insured like M1 finance? Should we consider opening accounts at different banks when we reach that max?
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 8 месяцев назад
I’m not concerned. M1 doesn’t own my shares. I own them regardless of what happens to M1. Now cash is a different story. Our retirement accounts are with Vanguard but same thing applies. Check out this video I made on M1: You NEED to know this if you invest with M1 Finance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZYBb0FPgHkk.html

Hey Jake. I've actually worked my 401k into part of my dividend plan. Fidelity offers the ability to self manage part of your 401k. I split my 401k 50-50 between a low cost s&p500 mutual fund & high growth dividend stocks I intend to hold on to. My plan is to do an inkind transfer of those stocks into a rollover IRA and work them into my dividend portfolio. I'll likely do another inkind RMD to a taxable account and use the dividends to cover taxes
