What do you do when two valleys meet at the ridge of the roof?
**********************************
Installing a valley detail can be straight forward, but what happens when two valleys come together at the peak of the roof? Today on The Metal Roofing Channel, Matt Lane from Metal Construction Solutions and Installations shows how to connect two valley pieces at the ridge, how to install panels around the detail, and how to tie in the ridge cap to complete the installation. This roof condition is like a giant a dormer, and we're going to treat it in a similar way. Always remember to follow manufacturer's installation guidelines.

Nice detail on a tricky location. I plan on Metal Formed Goods rolling a Sheffield coil into a standing seam roof for my house this summer. I will be sure to have my installer watch this video.

Hi , I am going to shingle over my existing 3 tab with dimensional shingles and I have an existing W valley like yours. Can I just shingle over the 3 tab with the existing W valley in place ( would be showing 2 layers of shingles) or do I need to add a second W valley over the old 3 tab shingle then lay my new shingle. your advice would be appreciated . thank you

A better way of sealing that area at the top where two pieces of valley meet is to put some peel and stick on that area instead of relying on the caulking. There's no ridge venting and the ridge cap is going to be covering the Peel and stick as well so it works better at sealing it off.

Josh: Yep. I Naturally put two rows of Tacky tape 4" apart and Two Rows of Caulking in front of each Tacky tape row where each valley overlap

For nu wave panels. What is the recommended spacing for placing the screws? Is it 3ft apart or something else?

dumb(?) question, could I or would I not want to use a standing seam valley flashing if I am installing a regular R-type panel on the roof. I like the idea of the standing seam in the valley but looks to be a bit of talent to install for someone who isn't a roofer.

Please do a video on capping hip and ridge junction.
@donesanewishki474
@donesanewishki474 2 года назад
That’s easy first cut to fit your panels either side lay ridge cap onto the bottom of your hip line it up center mark your sides put your Z-bar in Where you’re mark is slap it on top and lock her in and rivit away

Never done that joint detail before but wouldn’t it be best to use butyl tape as sealant where those two valleys meet together.

No

Yeah, I understand, but I'm using interlocking seams with shop made valleys. Put the valley in, make the ridge marks, and add 2" on one valley top, 3" on the other. Butt them together and fold 1" completely over, take a mallet and hand anvil and fold another 1". I've done standing seam dbl locked ridge peaks and valley tops with copper, zinc, stainless steel, even painted steel. It makes them just about bomb proof. Great vid but there are superior products out there rather than snap-lock or screw down corrugated.
@Josh-ww5kz
@Josh-ww5kz 2 года назад
Isn't interlocking seams and snap lock the same thing with metal roofing?
@beardedroofer
@beardedroofer 2 года назад
@@Josh-ww5kz Not necessarily. Snap lock is exactly what the name implies, "male" side gets clips screwed to the roof every 12-18", same as standing seam. But the "female " side just snaps into place over the "male", sometimes leaving as much as an 1/8" gap. Whereas the "female" of a double lock standing seam is folded under the "male" and then folded again, there is no gap. It makes a difference during installation.
@Josh-ww5kz
@Josh-ww5kz 2 года назад
@@beardedroofer ah, yeah I've only done a metal roofs a few times but we had this machine that ran up and down the seams to crimp them, but thought that was standing seam.
@beardedroofer
@beardedroofer 2 года назад
@@Josh-ww5kz Sounds like it was, no seamer needed for snap lock.

no caulking on the inside of the z? if not whats your reason for not doing it?
@tanshihus1
@tanshihus1 3 года назад
They didn't explain it on this video but the ridge cap has an open hem on each side which fits over the upper lip of the closure Z. Toward the end of the video you can see him pinching the Z upward in order to snap it into the rail. They haven't shown it yet but you need to use a pop rivet or self-tapping fastener to lock the ridge cap in place.
@TRE_-HEINZ
@TRE_-HEINZ 3 года назад
@@tanshihus1 no I was talking about the sides and where he cut the z to fit in valley .. why I ask is cuz I been doing this for 10 years and always seal the z to panel on sides from the back.

Back in "the Day", we would just roll one up and pretend we were a little drop of water that wanted in the house! 😎🤣😂 Cut and fold, caulk was last line of defense. Good video. The new "Super Caulking" is making for "Lazy installers"! Be carefull you dont get a 75 year roof product and a 5year install with latex 5 year caulk gobbed all over your 15k roof!!!!😮
