I did learn that if you pick the tomatoes much sooner than you think the birds won’t get them. Once the tomatoes start to change color from green to orange/light red, pick em. Let them ripen up in the house the rest of the way. If you leave them on the vine to ripen nice and red they become a magnet for birds and bugs. I did not notice any difference in flavor by picking them sooner.
