I feel like you made this video for ME! Thank you for these wonderful tips. I'm pretty sure some of my water isn't making it to the bottom of the soil. QUESTION: What do you do if you potted the plant in a pot without a drain. WHOOPS! Re-pot? Love these videos. Keep em coming!
@rosettagrows3315
@rosettagrows3315 4 года назад
Oh no! Yes, you could re pot, but if you don't have the time or you really love your pot, you could water, and then a minute or two later, tip the pot over, holding the plant and soil securely, and allow the excess water to drain out. What kind of plant is in the pot without the drain?

Hi Rosetta! This video was super helpful! I think I was watering my plants with too intense of a stream of water and the soil was going out of the pot and down the drain! Uh oh. Now I'll try a more relaxed stream and try to make a target pattern with the water so all of the soil gets watered. I do have a couple questions regarding watering. To start, is there a set time that the water should drain before it's fully watered, or can I stop the watering once the water comes out the bottom of the pot? Also for plants that have a tendency to get root rot, should I put the plants in a shallow pot so the soil doesn't hold on to as much water? I tend to put all of my plants into pretty big pots, and after watching your video, I'm wondering if that's not so good! Thank you!
@rosettagrows3315
@rosettagrows3315 4 года назад
judahachenry good questions! Basically, you should water until the water comes out the bottom. That’s a good rule of thumb. If it’s very dry you might want to make 2-3 passes of water draining through. You are getting the idea about big pots! Bigger pots are going to hold on to more water, maybe more than the plant will absorb through photosynthesis, so it may stay wet and potentially rot the roots.

Normally the plant tell you when thay need watering, as in the leaves ,I have overwatered before and got root rot beacause I brought poting mix that was to hot and burned the roots causeing the plants not being able to take up water ,I fixed by buying a type of enzyme that cleans up your roots that are roting

@@rosettagrows3315 What would be the best indoor plant that has low maintenance and not full light? I am looking for something lush and mid-height. I was looking at Easter lilies... would love your opinion.

Our friends little boy comes over often, and he is so cute but has this weird problem. He will all of a sudden say "Outside, Outside" and then he runs over to the corner jungle in our living room and pees in it. Does this count as watering? Our plants looked "pissed off" even though they are really "pissed on"

Uh oh. The good news is that human urine is sterile and actually can be good for plants. It is mostly water, but does contain some trace minerals that plants need. You will want to dilute the urine as it is a little potent, especially for potted plants indoors, and it can smell after awhile as the urea gives off that ammonia smell after a few hours. Just give a little water if you can and give that kid an extra hug. He was just trying to fertilize.

Hello Rosetta, thanks for the interesting information in all of your videos. I just recently found your channel and I like it very much. The pots I have repotted with general potting soil and adding some coco coir, some bark, some worm castings and perlite stay moist for too long. When you say ,put your finger in the soil up to two "nuckles" and it is dry, water your plant is for me a big question... First if I use my watermeter it will say WET for weeks, and second if it is dry down to two inches should I water it so that the water will run out from the bottom?? Because if the meter "says" it is still wet it will become even more wet ?? Or what am I doing wrong ? The plants that are still in the original nursery pot and soil usually get dry after 7 or 10 days or so and I will give water until the water runs out from the bottom and they are doing fine. So I think it is a soil problem?? Greetings from Belgium and keep the videos coming, I like them VERY much !!

@rosettagrows3315 4 года назад
Hi! I'm so sorry for this late response! If your water meter is saying wet, I wouldn't water! Yes, if you water it again, it will become more wet. The knuckle test is a good indicator if you do not have a water meter! Thanks for being here! Really appreciate it!

@@rosettagrows3315 Thanks Rosetta, I use my watermeter for every plant I have, better safe than sorry ;-) if the soil is dry upto two nuckles but if its a large pot and the watermlter put in to the bottom says "wet" I shouldn't water then ?
