There is nothing that will give you more control of your edits that using keyframes. It's a very simple concept, but may not come second nature to a beginner. I want to show you how simple it is to keyframe in Shotcut in this tutorial. When you master this tutorial, you will most likely use this skill in every single one of your edits. Keyframing is probably the most commonly used process in more advanced video edits.

@@BenEspanto can I use other effect style that you can download on other software and how it works in shotcut? It is possible because I see in the end of filter there is a costum option.

Mostly, no. Custom transitions made for Premiere and Resolve will not work in Shotcut. It's rare that you can use something, but an example is my Ink Transition tutorial that allows you to use an existing file.

Finally a basic lesson in keyframes (which I heard about when I started watching beginner videos) but didn't understand until now. I'm going to try it. How do you make the tracks bigger? I missed that part. I have a video clip & want to edit out sections. Are I cut it should I put each section on a seperate track to work on?

@@BenEspanto Can you do a video on keyframes & animating text. I watched several videos more than once but still don't get it. I don't understand what those circles in the corners do. Every time I entered my text with the size & font it would just go back to something else. I was able to slide my text in & out but during the animation it would become small then big. I wanted it to do the opposite.

Adding a music bed under my voiceover in a video destined for that great compendium of mankind's greatest wisdom and profound knowledge, RU-vid. Keyframing essential to have full music at the start, pot down when the voice starts, and cross fade to another music track. It was going great until I noticed I had somehow made about fifity extraneous keyframes in one audio clip. Ugh! King of Klutzes, I am. How can I select all the keyframes in a span of time and delete them all?

Shotcut is such an odd program. I owned Vegas and PD over 10 years. Never really got very far into it. Wanted to do light editing, again, and the subscription model just doesn't work for me. So, like, this is free? It actually seems OK, though it has quirks and crashes. I never quite understood key frames, but this video makes total sense to me. I don''t need to blur stuff, but some zooms would be interesting. The filters seem to work pretty well.

No problem! Right above the timeline is a set of little icons. The icons to the far-most right shows a magnifying glasses with a minus and plus sign. To zoom into the timeline, click the plus magnifying glass or move the slider to the right and do the opposite to shrink the timeline. Hope this helps! If you haven't yet, please like and subscribe! Hi Ben, I'm just like you were describing in your intro, but perhaps a couple years (or more) behind you.. and finding DaVinci too complex, yet something like Magistro and MAGIX Fast cut's AI simply frustrate me since the AI in them always cut out a lot of scenes I'd like to focus on. I've watched three of you tutorials so far, and like them a LOT.. I'd love to voice chat with you.. is there an easy way to do that on your Discord server perhaps? Here's a couple questions related to this keyframe topic:.. 1.) I'm assuming you can stack these filters and do two or more at once .. correct? (like Guassian Blur and an Audio level adjust) on a clip at the same time . 2.) If I select a group of several clips on the timeline, will the keyframe extend and work across them all as selected? 3.) What I really want to know is if there is a way to select something moving like an RC Plane and then zoom into it and moreover, is there a filter to track an object as it's flying around the sky/clouds and occasionally the ground below it in the background.. can this be done with Shotcut? 1. yes you can stack 2. You put the filter on the track not the clips so you can keyframe the entire timeline 3. Yes, you can zoom, but you have to do it manually. There is no tracking functionality

Ben now I'm a newbie only a few weeks using Shotcut and many things are still over my head. But keyframes is totally a guess from what I can see the version has changed a ton. I'm using 21.08.29 on a windows 10 device. Any advice or has it changed that much?

Nope. Not too many changes. Keyframes are pretty much that way it was when I did this tutorial. Just look for the icon to make sure that filter is keyframmable

Must be me but I think it's my software. I downloaded mine as an app from the Microsoft store and paid a small price for it and it's not looking the same with keyframes or I have something setup wrong. I have a Surface I work to a larger monitor off of to work with it.

Hard is an abrupt change between 2 keyframes, linear is a straight line that connects the dots and smooth, you can actually make the line curve to create an even gradual transition

After applying blur keyframes, my video got pixelated after export so what sought of setting should I make, so as to avoid such result.

And the setting which I did was Blur:Box - 99 px( width). 0px (height) Mask:Simple shape Shape -Ellipse Horizontal-81.92% Vertical-100% Width-20.34 Height-9.04 And all this configuration I have varied as per the requirement because the portion which I need to blur is moving in every frame. I have tried everything in order to improve the quality of the video but everything is useless, please guide me brother how would I resolve this issue. Thanks

One of the text that I animated I accidentally put on the side of the screen, How do I move it without messing up the keyframes? 2: How do I select multiple keyframes and move them, instead of one at a time 3: When using opacity keyframes, I can't use the opacity on text
