While the video is a bit choppy, this is an excellent tutorial. I wish I’d found it before I started knitting socks! But knowing how to knit socks, I can truly say this is the way to teach it.

So after splitting and 'joining' the stitches, how many should be on each needle?

You split in half, then 11 on each needle.

Want to learn socks on 2 straight needles

Then you have to look up knitting socks flat. You will need to sew them after your done. This is easier in my opinion.

If it’s socks 5 needles you can use it too, but will be very few stitches on each of them 😊🧶♥️
