In this video we practice knitting the dreaded heal, this is part 1 of a 3 part series. The method I'm using in todays video is the German Short Row method, I think you'll find this method easier than most you've seen.

I just want to say this is the most helpful sock video I have found. I have watch countless hours of sock videos that have left me confused and lost. I appreciate that you go into so much detail and talking because it ensured I was able to follow along. I am a life long crocheter but newbie knitter and newly obsessed sock knitter. I decided to make socks for my second knitting project after making only one chunky knitted sweater for the first time. Thank you again and please continue to make knitting videos. Your videos are so easy to follow along. Also, the term funky and weird stitch made so much more sense to me. Keep up the great work and unique terms!

I cannot thank you enough for this excellent video slowly showing the German Short Row heel! I knew this was the heel I wanted to use on my first pair of socks, but always got lost in other videos showing the GSR. Your in-depth, detailed explanation is exactly what I needed! I just taught myself to knit last month with RU-vid tutorials and I must say, YOUR videos are, by far, the BEST. Please don't change a thing...you are a wonderful teacher. I appreciate everything you do...thank you so much! I'm looking forward to parts 2 & 3!

Hi Charlotte, I thoroughly enjoyed a bunch of your videos thus far because you are so extremely detailed!!! So please please don't ever apologize for that, I am one of those learners who has to physically watch, try, watch, try....etc....I still cannot read patterns to save my life, I know that's not a good thing but that's just how I'm wired....I learn by watching. So with that being said I truly hope you continue to make ALL of your videos as detailed and timely as the ones I've been fortunate to watch so far. 💯💯💯👏👏👏 again thank you so very much for us beginner knitters🥰🥰

You're a very good teacher. My aging brain needs it slow and thorough! I want to try this method of the heel as I've only done it the old fashioned way on DPNs. This heel looks so much neater than the gusset kind. I'm excited about learning to do toe up socks 2 at a time. Never too old to learn!

Thank you so much for this sock knitting playlist. I finally know how to knit socks!! Your videos are perfect and your detailed approach was exactly what I needed to learn. I needed to be "talked through" the process and that's exactly what you did. I really enjoyed all of your comments and your cautionary warnings about what not to do were spot on. I also appreciate your plain language....bring on those funky stitches! I knit my socks right along with you (with many pauses, rewinds, and repeats). THANKS!!!

Screw the haters who say you talk too much! A) you have a very sweet, melodious and motivating, yet calming, voice. Youre fun to listen to!! B) Some of us knit slower and appreciate the time you allow for us to stay on pace or get caught up. C) These are YOUR darn videos that YOU have kindly taken YOUR precious time to make so beginners (like myself) can learn new, sometimes otherwise confusing, techniques! So on behalf of all the bummer naysayers, *I* personally would like to offer up a HUGGGEEEEEE "thank you!" for all your wonderfully enjoyable content!

When I first started watching knitting videos, noone was emohasizing the moving of the string for the stitch or pointing out the characteristics of the stitch, very appreciative. And I like the talking, it reminds me of my aunt teaching me when I was younger. Funky is a cool term. Don't apologize for your personality and if ppl don't like it. I wanted to say thank you for this short series. You helped me to knit my first sock, and my second knitting project ever. Most video tutorials don't go slow enough and don't do enough repetition. Your showing the simple heel first and explaining it was like the toe was inspired. Although I had a little difficulty putting the two parts together (as a from 1 beginner) your method allowed me the skill to figure it out. Now, I did screw it up (it almost did me in) but you can't really tell unless you look on the inside and the heel looks better than the toe (go figure). I want you to know the cards were stacked against me. I never used a circular before, had old sort-of-fuzzy unknown weight yarn (worsted maybe?) with pretty colors but horribly inconsistent thickness prone to splitting, and I knit tight (I crochet tight). Your 3 videos were the only ones I liked and believed could work for a beginner...trust me, I looked at a lot. Because you repeated the pattern, I was able to see a mistake and correct or compensate (stupid extra stitches). I found your chatter comforting. I hope you don't take any harsh negatives to heart. If the criticism isn't constructive, it is just hot air that says more about the person dishing it out than anything. Thank you again. Be well. Onward to the sock mate.

Hi Charlotte, I heard something kind of special in your intro teaching and wanted to join your class. Your idea to work the heel first was ingenious; it took me 10 times to watch you and take notes but I had to get it. I am pleased to say, I got it now and it is because of your suggestion and teaching method for the "German Short row." I will watch part 2 & 3 to learn your complete method. It appears that I will be grateful for several people taking the time to present their version of Sock Knitting so that I can find my own comfort zone. I have learned already how to make a ribbed cuff and part of an ankle on 9" circular needles but the 9" is too tiny for me as a mostly Continental Knitter. I had to use the English method of throwing my yarn to use the "9" but it is a bit fiddly; and it may be useful for someone who would like to work with the 9" circular. I do hope to accomplish it. Thank you so much for your great job of patience. I totally appreciate your sharing and I also hope this information is useful for other sock knitters.
