I have unprotected sex just after 2days of finishing my periods😢 I took a morning after pill 72 hours but I took it late with 6 hours.. after 3 days of taking it I am having lower abdominal cramps mostly in the morning….. now I am afraid that I might be pregnant and if it so what can I use without dr prescription to terminate it
Pregnancy risk is lower during or just after the period. You also took the pill within 6 hours which is recommended. The copper coil could work if you are within 5 days after having sex.

Hi, Foods don't affect how the emergency pills or their effectiveness. However, if you vomit within 2 hours after taking the pill, you need to take the dose again.

Hi, while some studies show paw paw seeds can have an effect on the cycle and fertility, we don't yet have the data on things like: how they work, what quantity to use, or any related side effects etc. So, we do not recommend it as an emergency birth control option.
Its a small chance that it will work since its most effective taken before ovulation. Still, better than nothing - please ask her to do a PT 3 weeks after sex. (If still within 5 days from ovulation/sex, the Copper coil is the best option). Thanks

The morning-after pill is most effective when taken before ovulation. The chances of being effective after ovulation are low. However, in such an instance, the MAP should still be used (sometimes the ovulation may not have happened yet); or get a Copper IUD/coil fitted within 5 days of sex.
I had intercourse and the condom broke ( he didn’t finish ). So we went to the pharmacy and took the MAP after 1h and a half. But then I checked the app and it said that I am ovulating during that time. Would the pill still work ? Thank you 😊

One more thing I would like to add..if you take emergency contraceptive pill while your ovulation has just occurred and you have had an unprotected intercourse then you can get pregnant..And chances are that it can be an ectopic pregnancy..There are doctors who wouldn't check this second possibility so please do proper tests to check that out or you can get into a serious life threatening situation..Telling from personal experience...And also try to avoid progesterone only birth control pills..

Hi, the pill works after ovulation. Why should you still get it? You should get it because no one can accurately say when they are ovulating (except with blood tests, scans etc). The menstrual cycle apps or calendar give you estimates, only - even with a regular cycle. So you should get the pill if you’re concerned about an unplanned pregnancy because it can provide good protection if you’ve not ovulated, but realise it may not work - if you’ve already ovulated. The only method (currently) which will work after ovulation is the copper coil that you can use within 5 days of sex, or ovulation.
If you have a regular cycle, that is, your period comes around the same time every month, ovulation is, on average, about 14 days before the next period, and 14 days after the last period.
I had it on my fertile period three days latter I took the pill late by 2hrs, I started having cramps even before I took the pill and have been having until now I have taken a test two times it comes out negative. Could it be pregnancy or stress

Hi, you do a pregnancy test 2/3 weeks after sex, as we can't tell when your next period arrives after the pill. It may be bang on schedule. The risk of pregnancy is naturally lower just after the period but it's sensible to use the pill. The spotting may be the effect of the pill on your womb lining since the period just ended. And yes, the pregnancy test in 2 weeks is the way forward, while you keep track of your bleeding and dates.

Hi Angel, without knowing your menstrual pattern, we can’t really be too specific. Going by the date, you may have been in the fertile window when you had sex. Taking the pill as soon as possible is excellent - as long as you had not already ovulated. You can’t really on those signs like painful boobs or cramping to assume pregnancy. It’s also a little too early for you to start getting symptoms as today is only the 17th November. You need to wait 2-3 weeks after Sex and do a test - there’s really no other way you can be sure till around that time. Hi, it means the emergency pill is most likely to work best if you take it in the immediate 1-2 days before ovulation. After that, it may work but to a lesser extent. Still, better to use it than nothing.

Hi Doc I had unprotected sex on 23rd of July this year and i took the morning pill on the 25th of July later in the afternoon. A week later i got my periods that lasted for 5 days as usual in August. In September i never got them but I've done 3 to 4 pregnancy tests and they are all negative. I feel bloated, i don know whether i should be worried or not. You can take the pill any day after you had unprotected sex. BUT. It is most effective in the days of your fertile window ie 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation.

Taking it as soon as possible after sex means you have a better chance that it works, especially if she took it before ovulation. Please remind her to do a pregnancy test 2/3 weeks after sex if her next period is over 1 week late.b
