You’ve been told to stay away from belts because you have to lengthen your torso instead of “break” it. And yes, you have to consider what you wear to length but a belt will actually create a waist vs take away from it and its more about what tops and raise of bottoms that will make the biggest difference.
But first let me show you and easy way to measure if you’re short waisted, long waisted or have a balanced waist.This is an approximation since we’re not using a tape measurer.

I am busty and have a normally balanced waist. But broader belts make the waist space look shorter when worn over dresses. Would like some tips on what widths to wear specifically with dresses of different shapes.

@Eddy Eddy I wish everything could be achieved by just going to the gym. The query I asked is not to attain a flat stomach as that could be due to various health reasons, allergies etc. that one would have attained the bulge. My question was only on how to accessorize with a belt.

Hi thank you for this information it’s helpful. I have a question maybe you can answer it. How do you keep a belt from riding up? I have some dresses that don’t have belt loops. I’ve tried wearing a wide belt and a narrow belt but they don’t stay where I want them.
