@@Zimmerman123Wow. You guys are super light! I almost envy you. I’m 6’7” and 320, but I’m too fat and get winded immediately. I need to get back down to 285-290.
I'm 5'11 and I used to be severely overweight at 250lbs. I started to get into shape and shedding the pounds and so far I'm at 155-160lbs and I think that's my ideal weight. I plan on competing at 154lbs.
I'm 5'11" 160 lbs, but still feel and look like crap. My arms are really long, so they look like sticks attached to a snowman. Think I'll keep gaining weight until 180 to 190 lbs.
@@ainjuhl4509 not true, look at ryan garcia, Mario barrios, GGG, the Charlos. if you're 5'11 you can compete anywhere from 135-heavyweight it just all depends on your body type and genetics.
I agree with you brother 👍🏼🥊 People are so quick to go off bmi standards with height / weight ratio. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Its so much more in depth than height. Its bone density and build. Iron mike was short for a heavyweight but he was born thick boned and stocky which bulked his weight right up. Like you were saying in regards to tall fighters in lower weight classes, I remember one boxer in my gym years ago, he was about 6”3 and weight 10stone soaking wet. I was always a short ass for my weight, i fought at light heavy / amateurs, and at 5”9 i was weighing 81kg without hardly any body fat. Luckily i had build across the shoulders which graced me with strength and power with the natural lower centre of gravity. The problem is, if id have gone down to middleweight, id have lost my natural body mass and would’ve had to have severely dehydrated myself. Thats when you have to consider whether or not you want to compete because when you start cutting weight is when serious injuries i.e bleed on the brain etc start happening. Id prefer to have a tiny percentage of body fat and fight bigger guys than fight people my own sort of height but feel skinny and ill any day of the week.
I stand 6ft naturally weighing around 197lbs with a reach of 76. I train Muay Thai. My coach wants to find me a kickboxing match. This was a great informative video. Thank you!
Just started boxing and I'm excited to eventually get to my first fight. I recently went from 230lb to a much leaner 196, but I think I'm going to drop to my former weightlifing weight (180) and then figure out where I perform best. Nutrition plays a massive role
Kickboxer and karate martial artists! been training for a 8+ years muay thai, tang soo do thai kwondo, i’ve been trying to get a fight 6’0 190(walk around weight), i want to fight at 170 work my way around to maybe 205
Heck yeah, I was wondering the same thing, but wasn't sure, thanks coach for another awesome, informative video. I'm 5''10" 196lb at this time and can't wait to see what i will be at 6 months from now.
@@rafaelandion1904 A bit more than three months from my first post on this video, I'm at 188 and feeling good, I think I will get a bit lighter the more conditioned I get, will post again when the 6 months are done.
@@Aarohnn Well it's been 6 months and I am not happy to report back where I started at 196 5'10", had a calf muscle tear at work so it killed the road work and any other kind of cardio 😞 I will not give up and I will start again November 1st!!!
I'm thinking 205. I was 246 last year, but now I weigh 210 in the morning. So if I can eat even cleaner and train harder, I can make 205 without even cutting. If it doesn't work, I'll sweat down to 186. Thanks
use to fight at 132 when I first started 14. After a 2 year layoff and being 19 I now feel better at 147. Want to fight at 138 but can't seem to make that weight. So 147 has chosen me I'm guessing.
I am 1m72 and 74-75kg with like 13% bf. I am massive for someone of my height and I usually fight taller dudes. It helps a lot when I am in short range and just use hooks and low kicks but it’s hard when I am in long range and the opponent just harass me with kicks and jabs.
I’ve never actually boxed but I’ve always been into it. But I’m pretty heavy for my height and I was always thinking that I’d have to fight guys a lot taller than me. I’m just barely 5’4 but my natural weight is 160-165, when I played football I got to 180.
Im actually the same as you im always been naturally thicker and heavier and hovered at around 160-165 and I’m a solid 5’4 as well I later on found that after training seriously i went down to 140 and can comfortably reach 135 and compete
I needed this video. Being 5’7 I thought I needed to weigh like 147. I’m trying to weigh 168 I’m 10 pounds away (used to train like a bodybuilder, I’m 178 with abs and all)
@@coachv3436 i am 15 and 5'11 and weigh 67kg , i haven't started boxing but when i am just shadowboxing at home i am pretty fast , so that could be an advantage to me in the ring when i join , but outside the ring i wanna be strong too and all of the strong dudes in my class weigh like 78kg i have no chance against them so the only way for me is to gain tons of weight . What should i do ? I wanna be strong and tough both IN and OUTside the ring
@@gayealisir5661 got diagnosed with MS but I’m m in shape. Haven’t been doing boxing training just traditional bodybuilding machines and cables. Just got the green light to train normally recently.
i was not even eating in a surplus But I picked up some muscle mass 30 pounds to be exact just through resistance training and i got up to 120 I think my weight class would be around 130 but I feel amazing at 120 but I feel like I could be better at 130 in boxing.
I'm 16, 5'11,210-220 and idk if I should stay as big as I am, a guy suggested me to go down to 170 bc my arms aren't like his but idk if it will be good for me especially when I've went a solid 30 min spar twice
I’m out of shape bad… but when sparring I never get tired 6’1” now 195 I control the fight with distance and reach. But then again I’m not fighting professional stalkers either.
I'm up to 75.6 or 75.7 kg but not much fat it's mostly muscle I'm short tho but need people to help like I don't know where to go to get a boxing licence but I know it's going to be a future sport all it takes is one spar match if a manager sees me go I know what to expect.
I gain 10 pounds naturally out of no where i had to move up from 147 to 165 and them kids can’t touch me at 165 and I had mad energy I was throwing like manny pac and I didn’t get tired at 147 I was getting tired in the middle of the second half crazy
6ft 147 ran 10 miles 1hr 38 minutes really fast explosive than kept eating well went down to 140 64-63 kilos 6ft more agile slower but stronger definitely my lowest ill go is 140 maybe 135 thats too risky unless i am uaed fighting underweight but 147 i am strong af crossfit i could run alot 3 miles 200 pushups Strenght training 80 pushups in a row 5 min planks at 140 i can do 30-50 pushups more agile but i fight less weight people and im agile feel like my muscle tighter to mt Bones so ahorter people have a hard time Knocking me around kind ah like gerbonte his skin tight muscle to his bonea make him bigger so definitely wull fight at 140 or 147
Ok, so i competed in boxing my early twenties at 72kg. Im now 36 years old and weigh 16.half stone. I want to compete in masters next season but have no what weight i need to get to etc
Im 175/180 naturally, at 5’10 I can get down to 160 easy, and I keep my strength and size. But that’s two totally different worlds as a fighter, as far as competition. What would you recommend.
178 I went 7-1 at that weight but you won’t fight nobody with more than 5 fights go to 160-165 and fuck that shit bro your the alpha get up in that Mfwr cut that weight and get in there and box 💪
I have my first fight at 160 this weekend bro I’m 10x faster better cardio and feel better all around cut the weight you’ll keep your speed and get faster you’ll see the difference
In My Best shape i reach the 152 pounds, would You go furter and try to get the 145 mma division or add a bit more muscle and try the 155? I am a short man 1.70 with 1.83 arm reach
Hey coach V, how do you think swimming would help wit boxing? I’ve been a high level swimmer & I have a little background martial arts. How do you think this can translate into boxing? Or does it not play a role? Thank you!
I'm 5'7 168. I am hoping to get leaner and gain more muscle. At my weight I am relatively pretty weak. Perhaps if I cut down to 150 I can balance out my weight and lack of strength.
Depends if you are carrying fat or muscle. You can measure your strength and speed by timing yourself and writing down your strength limit in the weight gym.
Damn you are a weird ass case my guy . Depends on the age . You are realtvely short for your weight class . If you are carrying alot of fat try to balance it out . If you were 5’7 of muscule you would have looked like canelo 😂
I'm exactly 70kgs(just checked), 186 cm tall, 197 cm reach and pretty muscular for my frame. I could cut it to 145 lbs and feel pretty normal, but should I?
Bit late, but you're carrying extra weight without function... Sure there are heavyweights that are ripped but there are boxers with higher bf (Ruiz Vs AJ) but Ruiz had the technique, experience and skill to work with it. Could he be better if he dropped a little fat? Maybe, but he's just fighting with what he has. If you're lower than a heavyweight class then I wouldn't be carrying the fat because all the other fighters have cut down to shredded levels of lean muscle and so that 175lb limit for example will have you fighting guys where they are 175lb for a weigh in of just pure muscle, on the fight night they'll be 190lbs, with more muscle behind them
If I’m 37, been training for a year, lost 120lbs fat, gained 30 lbs muscle using Carnivore diet, currently bouncing between 245 and 255 lbs naturally, training weights Legs Pull Push Rest Repeat without fail, 5 sometimes 6 days a week jiu jitsu, work DoorDash and Uber eats literally every waking minute that I’m not in the gym training, sometimes have to sleep in the car cuz I’m too tired to go home, so I just crash in front of a 24 hour fitness, and I still love my fucking life, am I like… obsessed in a negative way? Or is everyone who tells me I’m obsessed or that I’m gonna burn out just a little whiny bitch?

You train like a mf, you have only 3 advantages as a smaller dude. You have a little bit more speed, you have more stamina, if you can survive the first rounds ofc.. and you are stronger in very short range with shorts hooks and low kicks.
So how do you actually weigh in? Do you have to take off every thing and they cover with a towl? Or you just go in the underwear in front of everyone 😂
I’m 6’3 and tried to get to from 195 to 178 long story short I was doing something wrong and ended up 200 with a 7% body fat so Fck it I’m staying heavyweight(amateurs)
Jesus is lord. Believe in him, be born again, and turn to him to be saved from Hell! Turn away from all your sins before its too late. We love yall and God loves you all🙏🏼❤️
Correct, and usually it’s a big disadvantage because those guys were naturally that weight in general will have an advantage in speed power and durability!
@@coachv3436 yea i like to lift so i hover around 200-210 and im still very lean, but honestly 175 is where I would be without the lifting, probably why I gas out so quickly
