How to Land More Punches in Boxing
That's quite a title isn't it? Feels like a very obvious thing to write, especially as I'm a boxing coach. I mean, if I'm not aiming to help people land more punches then I have to begin questioning the point of it all really.
Being able to throw a punch in a technically correct way is always going to pay off. However, creating the situation where your punch has the best chance of landing and in landing has the best chance of creating maximum impact is the Holy Grail of offensive work in boxing.
In this video you will hopefully recognise the value of convincing your opponent that a punch will be arriving at a particular time and along a particular path. By doing this, you will be able to introduce the art of deception into your boxing, creating confusion and doubt in the mind of your opponent.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to know how to throw a decent screw-shot then you'll get that too!
Cheers
Fran

Try to use the feint to add power to the next shot. This happens with each of the demos on the vid. A bit of practice will pay off.

Not sure what you mean on the first bit Ben (weight up and down). On the back foot I coach boxers never to let it go flat (planted), not ever. Acts as a brake and destroys mobility. Thanks for the question mate.

If any of you think these moves are too complicated to learn, remember this. Before you attempt to use any move against an opponent, you should practice it 10,000 times in a mirror. You should practice it 100 times against a sparring partner before using it in competition. Once you reach that point, the real learning process begins.

CHeck out the videos on the straight right hand and the long range right hook. You are right, to get true power the ball of the foot absolutely has to be planted to the ground, just not the rest of the foot.

Part 2: ...in regards to the basic right hand. One thing I do notice is that the straight spine is a universal concept and perhaps that is the reason for the back foot not needing to be grounded, because the balance is there. Thanks for taking the rime to read this and reply.

I'm not talking about the corkscrew in particular. When he throws a right hand, his back foot pivots on the very tip of the shoe not staying on the ball of the foot. The less grounded you are, means less power transferred.

I'm a bit unfamiliar with fundamentals. There's a boxing/52 blocks teacher that says the best time to hit your opponent or take an angle is when your front shoulder is lined up with the opponent's front or back shoulder. Do you have more to add to the subject of when a good time to hit or take an angle is based on alignment with the opponent's shoulders?

Fran Sands Mayweather kind of does this. He'll duck down low like he's going to the body and then he'll throw a head shot at you. He does the same when he goes to the head too he'll be standing up a little straighter and then feint a head shot and then go to the body

Frank what's your feelings on Cus D'matto peek a boo style of boxing, I was wondering if you recommend ever switching from your stance to peek a boo during a fight ?
@michadebicki6534
@michadebicki6534 5 лет назад
If u're not in top notch condition with great stamina, great timing, and great head movement - this style won't do any good for you. This style works only if everything is made right and spot on, if You lack any of these elements - u'll get hit badly. Pee a boo is a very stamina draining style and that's why every prime of any boxer who used this was so short.

I always thought a screw shot was more like a long range uppercut where you finish with your arm almost straight and your knuckles facing the floor.
@codeman95291
@codeman95291 11 лет назад
when you're feinting a uppercut like that and throwing a left hook another good thing about that is when you feint the uppercut your torquing your body to throw a hard left hook you getting your hips into the punch
@C0UCHL0CKED

Fran, I watch some old black and white boxing fights and when throwing wide body shots, around the liver and kidney area, they have he palm side of the hand facing 'out' and knuckle side of the hand facing 'in' towards the ribs. Seems a bit unnatural but even Sugar Ray Robinson did it. Don't see too many fighters throw body shots like that these days. Sorry, a bit of track but the punches your throwing in these vids, I was thinking are punches I don't see very often as well - they're great thou!

Hello Sir, I am currently training in MMA, with a former background in traditional kungfu. @myboxingcoach
@myboxingcoach 8 лет назад
+david schneider Thanks David. Yes, sounds like you may be under-rotating slightly and feeling vulnerable when you throw that backhand - this is quite common. Get in the mirrors and work the tech of the straight right again. Full, exaggerated rotation of the hips driven by that explosive thrust from the back foot. Check the straight right video.
