Super helpful...thanks! Got blocked-out of a project this AM. My Mini controller is an old S7 with no SIM card, sooo...kinda screwed. Newbies like me will learn that there are all sorts of drone restricted areas out there...hospital helipads, DOT yards, prisons, etc. This is very helpful and is a good reminder to preplan your flights.

I wish I'd found this video 24 hours ago. I spent too much time fiddling with trying to set up authorization in my area just to know how to do it for future flights. I had the first DJI drone and I miss those days that you just fly. Now its easier to get clearance to fly a Airbus A380 than a drone because of all these laws.

Thank you for making this clearer. I tried several times to click on the link of my intended flight but didn't realize I needed to click on the link of the airspace restriction. I live in San Diego and we have 3 links for SAN, one that will allow DJI's self unlock and 2 that will not. Uploaded to the drone and ready to fly in the morning.

I figured out how to get LAANC authorization thru Kittyhawk, but couldn’t figure out to get that authorization into DJI Fly App. I was so frustrated the day I tried to fly and couldn’t! Seems like there must be a better procedure for Part 107 users.

While this looks to work in controlled airspace, I'm having trouble figuring it out since the DJI app has controlled airspace miles over the landing and departure of aircraft over airports. Since DJI is showing different controlled airspace than Kittyhawk, how can I unlock the airspace when Kittyhawk doesn't show it that way??

I've never been approved for manual review through that app and I have my part 107. The request is never reviewed by ATC and is automatically denied.

Yes- Very complicated to unlock- I'm in an airport zone. My commercial work takes me all over this airspace. It is a real unfortunate process. If you would like to participate in a workup to ask the FAA to consider that any manned aircraft flying near a UAS operating per Part 107 in 100' or less ( 0' AGL) is most likely flying into terrain and the little mini drone is not the concern the manned pilot has, let me know.

But what I'm not understanding about this is how big are the zones that you are on locking don't most people take that drones and fly them 3 miles away from themselves if you do that aren't you going into another Zone

I recently went on a mini vacation with the kids to Salem Massachusetts for the Halloween craziness 10,000 of thousands of people all day every day for the whole month. Any way. So I’m from the next state over and always want to film/fly somewhere I haven’t yet. Ans I flew around had a great flight filmed the streets the ppl flew over the ocean. So fast forward about a week I post the video on Reddit u see the Salem Massachusetts section and was bombarded by locals who r just snobby and prob anti Halloween visitors. That Salem is all restricted airspace and you can’t fly there and did I get permission? But they don’t give permission cause it’s just restricted. So I told them I self authorized and was granted permission up to I can’t remember the altitude like it was a odd number 92ft or some thing, I agreed to a bunch of stuff like u and some fill in the blanks and bingo I was able to fly in a NFZ. These salemites lost their minds saying there was no such thing. I kept calling them drone police. And fake news ppl. I’m glad your video is available. Thanks.

Spent a week dealing with DJI disaster even with proper FAA authorization. Huge overreach by DJI to protect their interests, not yours.

This crap is just ridiculous. I got my first Dji drone last week and it will be my last.
