I lived in Ottawa for 12 years and Toronto for around 7. Ottawa is definitely more of a home, where as Toronto is really fun and loud but after a while I want to go home. I used to think Toronto was the best place on earth when I was in Ottawa, but I dunno, I like Ottawa better :)

The cost of transit in Toronto is not as high as stated ; there are several other innacuracies - e.g that French is important in a job search in Toronto but that's not true and you rarely hear French spoken . unlike , say , Chinese .
@adamfrank8270
@adamfrank8270 5 лет назад
Umm I got my first job in Toronto after many weeks of searching because I could write correctly in French and translate between the two. Every big company in Canada needs at least some francophone employees if only for the web site and the customer service and since most head offices are in Toronto the girl is right about French but the Anglophone mentality for the last few hundred years has always been to try to pretend French doesn't exist and hopefully it will just go away but sorry it won't my friend. People do speak many other languages including Chinese and that's great but everyone has to learn either English or French and it's definitely better to know both. I would be out of a job personally if I didn't and I was born in Toronto.
@officialdiva8736

@@adamfrank8270 I like and hate your comment. Youre both wrong. What she said was you will French if you lived in Ottawa if you planning on being employed at a government job. Its ignorant to say you cant get a job in Toronto or wouldnt have one if u didnt speak French. Thats such bullshiit. You just got a Job no one else could get or wanted because u spoke French. U sound lazy and got a job where your privilege ass gets paid to do NOTHING
@jandron94
@jandron94 3 года назад
@@adamfrank8270 Yeah French is a 'great' culture and it's the French who created Canada in the first place. Sadly, If you listen to Sheeba learning French seems to her not like an opportunity but an out-of-the-blue obstacle to be by-passed. She doesn't seem telling out her real feelings on the question.

Ottawa has great opportunities for outdoor activities like Nordic skiing. Skating cycling. Fishing. Toronto has better transit system. There is a lot of festivals in Ottawa but night life is not so exciting. But you can party across the river in Gatineau.

I would love to live in Montreal, the only problem is you have to learn to speak French in order to get a job. Also, I wouldn't be able to help my son with his school work as he would have to go to a French school. When I was visiting there I learned that in order for a child to go to an English school, the parents have to speak French. I love that they protect the French culture, I just wish it was a little easier to move there. It's such a beautiful part of our country, I wish it was just a little bit easier to make a life there.

Its because Ottawa isn't really a city, but people want to think it is. Its really just a small downtown surrounded by incorporated suburbs (Kanata, "Farhaven aka Barrhaven", "Borreleans" aka Orleans") So Ottawa is really just a suburb life and that has an effect on devlopment and what kind of people want to live here. Ottawa is really just meant for someone that wants a stable job (neither particular rich or poor) and raze a family. If your the ambitions type that can handle risks head to Toronto. But if your more the cautions reserved type Ottawa might be better for you. The only problem is Ottawa is getting worse and there is a perception it can't happen here in Ottawa mentality. Some people are waking up to it others still haven't.
@adamfrank8270
@adamfrank8270 5 лет назад
The problem with Ottawa is that it is nearly impossible to make friends. They chat in elevators stores etc or even on the street but if you ask them to go out for a drink or coffee they look terrified like you just took out a knife. I have friends all over the world and in Toronto I can make at least one new good friend per month but I have been in Ottawa now two and a half years and I have zero friends. Lucky I have a nice cat lol. I would love to go back to Toronto but the rents are just out of my league so I sit lonely in my apartment in Ottawa chatting with friends around the world by whatsapp.

What about Mississauga or Oakville etc.. I swear some people are computer programmed lol Toronto is soooo busy, but York is still technically Toronto and pretty quiet... but I agree Ottawa and Toronto. If you go to England the only city to live in is London. In japan the only city to live in is Tokyo. Germany the only city to live in is Berlin. France is Paris... why are people so computer programmed there’s other towns and cities around or towns close enough to the big cities it feels like you still live in the main city. Or if someone ventures to Vaughn away from Toronto and Ottawa will they glitch out and have issues keeping human form if they’re a shape shifter. Like 😂 don’t go to Canada’s wonderland that’s too far from Toronto and Ottawa you might have a heart attack if you’re not from Canada. Like it’s off limits if it’s not downtown in a major city wtf lol

You can't even get alot of gevernment jobs if you don't speak French or Quebec version of. The crazy part is there's more Quebecoi that speak English, than there is english that don't speak Quebecoi. The funny part is alot of Quebecers can speak English, they may just refuse too. Truth be told the amount of fluent french speaking Canadians is around 17%. Aside from very rural parts of Quebec and afew people who just refuse to learn, pretty much everybody in Canada speaks english. As much as a few die hard Quebecers may refuse to admit, especially in places like Ottawa. Lived there 5 years it sucked, your almost admit second class citizen if you don't speak Quebecoi. Even simple jobs like a server is almost out of the question entirely.

If your French is as poor as your English, I'm not surprised you had trouble finding employment in Ottawa. 5 years is more than sufficient time to have improved your language skills; that you have not done so is an indication to potential employers that you are a lazy, disorganized person not worth the risk of hiring.

Hey... My profession is refrigeration engineering, do you know if there are good job opportunities in Ottawa for me? My English is also not perfect, I am definitely able to speak to people but I never been in an English speaking country, I have been learning English because I want to move out. I am wondering if the citizen don't like foreign Arab/Asian people? :P I definitely come over for few days, but these are questions, i am thinking about a lot :P

Is Algonquin college ok? I saw the reviews and they were all negative and got so scared. I am currently preparing for immigration to Canada and was planning to apply to a college with a co op program...any recommendations in Toronto?

Handsdown Toronto. Assuming your including Mississauga, Toronto(Downtown) and Markham. While you'll get employment in both cites the tech jobs in Ottawa aren't as exciting, theres still a Public Service mentality here. From a Software Engineering perspective what matters most is the type of projects you do and the connections you build, for that reason I would chose Toronto.

Before moving back to Ottawa I lived in Toronto for many years. I did move back to Toronto for work after 20 & found the air to be really bad so I left for Ottawa a much cleaner city but then again so was Toronto before it reached one million people then really went down hill after the two million mark now it's unbelievable & the public there don't seem to notice, To bad for them I guess lol Party

Edgar Quintero I've been reading a lot of people's opinions on Ottawa when compared to Toronto, and apparently the worth of a city is measured by how many snowflakes, hipsters, and trashy nightclubs it has to offer.
